  1. That's their choice, just not mine.
  2. I don't know what people do for £40, not very much I would guess. I doubt they'd take the cover off the boiler, just stick a probe in the flue and call it done. 100 flats at £40, no, I wouldn't, but plenty would. I charge 90 + vat as I think the responsibility you take as a Gas Safe bloke is too high for it to be valued at £40, but that's just me.
  3. You have to do most things required to service most modern boilers when you do a landlords ticket anyway, so you might as well service it completely when you're doing it. Landlords who only want to pay £40 a ticket get the most basic report. Those are the landlords to avoid if you're a gas engineer or a tenant. I've weeded most of them out of my diary now.
  4. Very pretty, but some idiot assembled the barrels the wrong way round!
  5. For a Landlords certificate? Why would a landlord want a certificate for half the gas appliances? The idea is that they've had all their gas appliances and the pipework and the meter checked by a competent person, so they've done everything reasonable to protect their tenants. If you only get half of them checked you haven't achieved the aim of the certificate. and you would be liable for any accidents with the gas that your negligence didn't protect the tenants from.
  6. I think you have a completion certificate, which is the certificate to say that the boiler has been installed by a competent person. Hobs do not require a certificate, so unless you have a fire the boiler is probably the only thing requiring a certificate.
  7. Most smart meters are going to be battery powered, so that's going to work well, especially in a damp outdoors environment. Avoid.
  8. A white towel rail gives off more heat than a chrome one too, so something worth remembering.
  9. I don't understand why anyone would want one. There is pretty much zero gain for the consumer, leads to the meter reading guys losing their jobs, they're a pain in the backside for gas engineers to use for normal gas rating of appliances. I certainly won't be getting one until and unless it becomes mandatory.
  10. I like RC professional in mine too. 28 or 30g. Soft enough on the shoulder and seem to kill well for me.
  11. For your business, just refund him without comment and take it on the chin. An awful lot of very successful retailers in the states have this policy, and although their generosity will be abused from time to time, people are much happier to shop somewhere where they know that if there's a problem it will just be taken care of without the Spanish Inquisition that is so typical from UK retailers.
  12. Canada has something close to a public health service. Nearly all the mass killings in the States are done by people with mental health issues who you would hope would have been under some form of treatment in Canada or the UK. The utterly broken health service in America is highly unlikely to pick up and help people with mental health issues unless they're wealthy and have people who are looking out for them.
  13. Thanks. I've had a couple of Deerhunter coats in the past and been underwhelmed by them. I expect I'll give the Musto a go. I'm not convinced that any of the breathable coats stay waterproof for long, everyone was soaked to the skin one day last season, and that was all brands from Schoffel to jack pike, but having decent quality zips and material that doesn't tear as well as a useful, but not gratuitous, number of pockets is the aim. I don't think it should be difficult to find something suitable, but once you start looking round there's plenty that seem to not hit the mark.
  14. Thanks. I wonder whether the Keepers coat has changed as they now call it a Keepers Westmoor BR1 coat, which looking at their website looks like it's got significantly less waterproofness than the rest of their range. 6,000 vs 28,000mm of waterproofing.
  15. Thanks RD. I wonder why it only claims to be barely shower proof on the cotswold website?
  16. Thanks, just looked on Cotswold outdoors and it doesn't look very waterproof. https://www.cotswoldoutdoor.com/p/fjallraven-mens-keb-jacket-A1512597.html?channable=e15806.NzAwMThfMTMy&colour=132&gclid=Cj0KCQjwpMLOBRC9ARIsAPiGeZAje0IY7sxJXF1n_8obSewagQ90GuMMtMYne2xjgUVNdGFnvM_BslYaAt-dEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds
  17. I need a new coat. A standard barbour type green shooting coat. It doesn't need to be super insulated as it will mainly be used when it's raining, rather than for warmth. My last one was a Le Chameau which the zip broke on very quickly and it started leaking soon afterwards. I don't want to spend £500 on a coat, but don't mind spending £250 if it's actually better than a £150 coat. What do you suggest?
  18. I'm sure it could be bypassed as you want, but it's still not going to work how you imagine. Those red infra red lamps are good instant sources of heat. Used to have them in a place I worked. They gave me a head ache, but warmed me up!
  19. If the estate wants fibre, they need to re-think their shooting program!
  20. X2 I really doubt it's going to be dynamic in the way you imagine.
  21. Glad it was something simple. Usually is when something as odd as that happens. The amount of calls I get from people with Vaillant boilers who say the hot water isn't working. I ask if they've topped up the boiler recently, oh yes they say. Go and turn both the grey handles back to off please. Oh yes, it's working now! "That'll be fifty quid then ple....." by then they've hung up.
  22. Very odd. Assuming you mains cold is still running fine, then it has to be from where the cold supply to the boiler is Tee'd off the mains and the boiler hot out pipe. If you're good at things like this I'd probably try disconnecting the cold feed at the limescale filter and the boiler and checking that for blockages, then look at the flow restrictor in the hydraulic block. You're looking for sediment or something that could have blocked the pipe. Really unusual for it to completely block the supply in one hit without a gradual loss.
  23. Check that the valves at both ends of the radiators are fully open before you start balancing the rest of the system to it. If you have a TRV on one side of the rad, take the head off and make sure the pin is moving freely.
