    Torches

Don't put cheapy batteries in it or mix different makes, an email's just come round at work saying one caught fire and badly burnt a blokes arm, (it was left on by accidentally pushing the button on the top). P.
  2. Nice bags Is the kitchen finished yet? P.
  3. Thanks for the replies, lots of good points! I've ruled out a few already. It's not worked loose, accuracy with it off is excellent and the barrell floats ok. I'm going to take the mod apart and see if there's any marks on the baffles. al4x theory makes sense, but doesn't explain why back at 100yrds I only got 2 on the target, (I'm not that bad a shot ). I'll have to wait a while before I can do any more zeroing over 100yrds as the permission I've got in Essex is only safe for 100. To be updated! Cheers P.
  4. Hi all after some advice, I've got a Ruger 77 MkII in .243 with a moderator of indiscriminate origins on it. I've been having problems with the moderator causing the aim to go off, drops by about 2" at 100yrds. Take it off and it's bang on again. The last time I zeroed it with the silencer, my groups went massive, took it off and they became respectable again, hence zeroing with it off and shooting from the high seat without the silencer. I could live with that, especially as it only ever fires one shot at a time and its easy enough to compensate for - earplugs. However, this weekend I took it down to the Mother in laws farm in Devon to try it at longer distances, this time with the silencer on. 100yrds nice group, 2" low - 150yrds nice group, bang on (up one reticule) - 200yrds nothing - back to 100yrds and only got 2 on the target! I was firing groups of 5 and was wondering a couple of things. How much would the barrel being hot change the ballistics and also, has any one else had a moderator affect the trajectory of the bullet. Loads of questions I know and I hope I've put enough info to be able to get an answer. BTW, I know someone's going to say get a new mod, but I'm skint, so have to make do! Many thanks, P.
  5. Don't come on here as often as I used to, but you look mighty familiar Magwitch and the quality of your pics is still up the usual standard. Any more pics of your dogs? P.
  6. Excellent pics and write up SPEEDY, informative as usual Have you been doing any more goat culling recently? P.

Have you considered one full time person and possibly a student on their middle year of an amenity hort course? Cheap wages and it'd look great on their CV, plus you may be able to claw back some of their wages. Mrs P's college generally has a few, so I'm sure there must be some colleges down there that do as well, if not PM me. P.
  8. The right result, but certainly too long a sentence. My two kids (18/16yrs), and by no means screaming lefties, were up in arms at how long he was given and kept citing other cases where people were given derisory sentences for what appeared to be much more serious crimes. I imagine it'll be reduced on appeal anyway. P.
  9. Mrs P and I stayed in the Faversham Arms in Helmsley last June. Like you Webber, I'd never been to that part of the world and was thoroughly impressed. We had a top weekend with a tour round Rievaulx abbey, a spot of birding at Bempton, (first puffin) and a walk on the moors. The other thing that impressed was the roads - I'm going back this summer on the Blade P.
  10. I was on a stag do in York over the weekend and one of the things we did was some clay shooting here http://www.noeac.com/ It was a right laugh, made all the more so by the superbly humerous tuition given by the young instructor, (I didn't get his name, but he was wearing a Formula 1 baseball cap and Le Chameau wellies). A very impressive ground with a good clubhouse and facilities, well worth a go Comment of the day to one of the blokes who had horrendous DT's - "He's shaking like a ******** dog!" Needless to say, I shot appallingly until the last stand and then redeemed myself. As said above, a top afternoon P.
  11. He drinks in our local, a really nice bloke  P.
  12. £40 in the garage up the road and it seems to be going fine! P.
  13. Cheers Gents, I've decided to take it to the local garage tomorrow and he reckons he can drain it and flush it through for a fraction of the cost and get it going, possibly for a part ex  P.
  14. Like a chump, I've put £30 worth of petrol in the empty tank of our diesel Mondeo 54 plate TDCI. To compound matters, I then drove it 10 miles and surprise suprise, it wouldn't start. The AA towed me to a Ford main dealer and they've turned round and said the repairs going to cost £2700 - basically a whole new fuel system and more than the cars worth. Having spoken too a few people today, that price seems exhorbitant. Has anybody else done the same and if so, what did it cost you? P.
  15. Have any of you ever given your dogs the above as mild pain relief? P.

    iPhone 4 or 3GS?

I've got a 4 and have to say, it's the nuts I haven't lost reception yet, although downloading stuff in certain locations doesn't work, but they wouldn't for the Blackberry I had before either. Battery power's still a bit of an issue, lasting only a day, (but that might be because it's new and I'm messing around with it all the time). The Facetime facility when you're talking to someones else on a 4 is brilliant, a right laugh, and full of all sorts of possibilities All in all, miles better than a Blackberry P.
  17. The copper was a fool, but generalisations like this don't do anybody any good and just reinforce stereotypes that the media is more than happy to portray to sell papers. Sadly, the good news stories don't sell papers and the very small minority of coppers who make the headlines for all the wrong reasons are the ones the public are fed all the time - and they're the one's who are remembered. I particularly liked Mudpattens' comments, (only 15 more yrs to go mate ). Mung's bang on as usual, they were clutching at straws to nick him for that, surely there was some sort of affray beforehand? P.
  18. I've only been sea fishing once when I was about 12yrs old, so no, it's not me However, a trip out fishing on a boat sounds a right hoot, esp combined with a beer or two P.
  19. Excellent, Sundays stroll sorted out, cheers Gents P.
  20. Could any of you Mersea boys tell me if there's a path all the way round the edge of the island? Ta, P.

    Fieldfares

Very few fieldfares around here, mostly in groups of 5-10. Hardly any redwings either. Sadly no orchards around for them to tuck into any more. P.
  22. Would the BASC introduce a ban only on wildfowl? Somebody said to me yesterday that ANY shooting when conditions are like this and have been for more than 2 weeks, is banned? Never heard of that personally, but wondered if anyone else had? P.
