  1. BigDave15, I really don't understand these people, most of them are morons who know nothing about the countryside. You should never feel threatened for supporting shooting, you are maintaining the balance of nature and in doing so you are improving the countryside so that everyone can enjoy it, the animals that live in it are healthy and live in harmony with people. I have had similar problems with people I have worked with, I always found that standing your ground and giving the informed facts works best because I guarantee that you will be far better informed about the subject than any anti and they will soon learn this. I know it is difficult in a school situation but you should never be afraid of standing up for what is right, it never ceases to amaze me at how misinformed these people are. Mark.
  2. The first rifle I ever owned was a supersport and I still remember it fondly, it is a great rifle. The only thing I would say is if you do go for this rifle then make sure you buy the little arrestor block that screws behind the scope mount because the scope can move due to the recoil (this block stops it completly). The other rifle I would look at is the BSA lightning, it is the same general rifle but with a silencer and a better scope mount. Mark
  3. I am very surprised at that, I use them in my garage tool box and they work really well, all the tools completly rusted before I used them. Did you put enough patches in the safe? You need several for a large safe. Can you place some insulation between the safe and the wall? Fibre board (used for laminate floors) would be perfect. Mark.
  4. Hi, Use VP90 it is excellent stuff, you can get it from most good gun shops. See: http://www.vp90.com/# Mark.
  5. Hi Dead-eye, Good to hear that you have finally got somewhere to use the Air rifle, I agree with PP that a red filter does spook the rabbits a lot less, what lamp are you using? I would say that providing you have written permission (which you carry with you), then you should not worry about shooting alone. As for lamping tips, switch the light on with the lamp pointed in the air and slowly lower it to the ground (or slowly increase the brightness, if available). If you are walking, then slowly crouch down as you get closer to the rabbit, this gives the impression that you are going away. Move slowly, and nights with a little wind are best and they hide any noise but make sure that you walk into the wind to avoid your scent being blown in front of you. I hope this helps. Mark.
  6. BTMS, With the things you get up to I am not surprised Mark.
  7. Never skins a cow but I have skinned Deer and Sheep, does that count? Mark.
  8. Tiercel, So are you going to tell us all the secret of quickly skinning a bunny? If not please send me a PM and let me know. Thanks Mark.
  9. Tiercel, Does this time include gutting as well as skinning? I would love to know how to skin rabbits in sub 30 seconds, it takes me 3 minutes + Mark.
  10. YP, Have a look at here: http://www.ascott-shop.co.uk/cat156_1.htm They have all you will need, not the cheapest but they sell everything in one place. Mark.
  11. YP, I have two grinders\stuffers, one is electric and the other is a hand cranked machine. I find the the hand operated machine is far better than the electric one as it is all metal and has more ooph. I purchased it from a local cook shop for about 22 pound and the stuffer tubes were about 4 pound. It clamps onto the side of a unit and has a handle. The electric one is plastic as does not seem to have the power to grind tough meat so I hardly use it anymore. Venison and red wine sausages are fantastic. I buy the skins from a local butcher, I get a bag full which will last a long time, they are packed in salt so need to be washed off before use. Send me a PM if you need any further help Mark.
  12. Simmons Pro-air 6-18x40, boxed, as new, it has really bright optics and a great scope at the price. I purchased it new for £179.95 and I am selling it for £130 inc P&P. Mark.
  13. I agree that both a .22 and .177 with kill any legal airgun quarry if the shot is placed correctly at a reasonable range. Leon, not sure about you but I never shoot pigeons in the head as it is a very small target that tends to always be moving, I always go for a heart\lung shot which is why a .177 can be better because it goes though the tough breast bone easier. .177 also has a flatter flight path so gives slightly more margin for range finding error, but the .22 does hit harder and is slightly better in the wind. As I said at the start both will do the job and at the end of the day it is personal opinion. Mark.
  14. Tazkb, Please report back and let us know how you got on, I am sure we are all interested. Mark.
  15. Hi Daveman, The TX200 is a great rifle, which is very consistent, my only negative comment about it is that I think it is too heavy, I would suggest that you have a look at one and pick it up. Have you decided on .177 or .22? This is a debate which everyone seems to have a different opinion on, I would stick to the golden rule if you can, .177 for feather and .22 for fur. I have rifles in both cal's and they are both effective in the right hands so practice, practice and practice some more. Welcome to the wonderful world of shooting and air gunning. Mark.
  16. Is the Chinese gun you have a rifle or pistol? If it is a rifle then if you are confident about placing pellets in a 1\2" circle at the range you are expecting to shoot at then it would do the job. Do you know what power it is? Mark.
  17. A lot of this depends on where you are going to be shooting the ferals, if it is indoors (warehouse etc), then a cheap spring rifle would be fine or the Rat catcher - I would not recommend ANY air pistol for live quarry they are just not up to the job either power wise or accuracy. If it is outdoor shooting then firstly do you have permission to shoot the ferals on the land? Also can you guarantee the pellet will not travel past the area you have permission. For outdoor shooting I would get a slightly better rifle due to the increased range and accuracy needed. A BSA Lightning or Supersport with a 4x40 scope would be a pefect budget combi. Mark.

BTMS, It would certainly improve my accuracy if they did. I would make sure I never missed again. Mark.

    For Sale

    Sounds good, count me in.
  22. HI, I would agree with hammergun but I would suggest that you may be able to save some money by getting a spring rifle which will be very accurate in the right hands. You say you have shot before, from your post I guess it was firearms rather than air rifles so you will be used to the recoil. Where are you from out of interest (I don't recognise the name). Mark.
  23. I started with my local golf courses using an air rifle, I have built up trust with them and now they let me use a .22 rim-fire and a shotgun (for the crows). Mark.
  24. I do agree that a .22 rimfire has advantages in the effective range but this can also be a disadvantage if you shoot on small areas of land. I own a Sako .22 rimfire, Theoben Rapid .22 FAC air rifle and an AA S410 12 ft.lb .177 air rifle and a shot gun. They are all used for different situations and they are all the perfect tool for the job. All I will add is that if you don't want the hassle of an FAC then the AA S410 is a fantastic rifle and hard to beat, if you have suitable land to shoot on and are happy to get through the FAC process then PP is spot on as a .22 rim-fire is the perfect tool for long range rabbits. Mark.
