  1. Thanks Kent, that's what I was thinking. I have spoken to him a few times lately as my 30-06 is beside being bedded and screw cut.
  2. I have just had a message from him and apparently the muntjac vid was an April fool and the air rifle was loaded with a felt cleaning pellet
  3. I am have spoken to dave at valkyrie rifles a few times and from what I have heard and seen of his work I was impressed but I have no plans set in concrete yet, I may not even be granted another rifle to do the work on
  4. I have reported him and left a couple of messages for him too. I remember getting up to all sorts of carp when I was young with an airgun, but nothing like that, and to be stupid enough to put it on youtube really does go to show how much of a numpty he is.
  5. I have just applied for a .22 C/F in the hope of picking up an old gun as a start to a custom build. I fancy building a .223 with a tight twist and a long barrel to reach out a bit further with some heavier bullets. I know I can buy a factory rifle that will do what I want but I fancy building my own. Any info or advice from my PW'ers would be gratefully received. I was thinking, remington or tikka action and a 26" shilen or krieger barrel with a 1 in 8 twist. As I say any advice or suggestions will be gratefully received.

    Greylag FUD's

I have silo socks and fuds for greylags and have had very mixed results. I made up my mind that this year before the season I am going to buy something full bodied and flocked like the ones in the link penelope put up. I think the trouble here is that its a small place with a lot of shooters all trying something different and unless it is perfect the geese just steer clear. And the calling sometimes is worth hearing, I am not great at calling and I gave up at the end of the season before last because the geese just steer clear as soon as they hear it if it is not perfect. When I started shooting with my uncle 15-16 years ago, you could go a whole season without seeing another gun out and the geese would come to anything that nearly resembled a goose. To be honest towards the end of the last season I was leaving my shooting buddy to go and try his decoys and I tried to get under a flight line and I have to say that for me having success under a flight line is more rewarding.
  7. I started using eley subs after my BRNO, for whatever reason, took a dislike to the winchester subs she has always been fed but I find the eleys don't have the smack that the winchesters have and I don't like the waxiness of the eleys. I might try some CCI's as they gave as good a group as the eley's when I was testing them.
  8. I find the RSPB workers and officials up here in Shetland are fine to get along with when it comes to shooting. The company I work for does a lot of work for the RSPB so I am working around them a lot and know a lot of them personally. I find a lot of them asking how the shooting is going and they often ask if I have seen any unusual birds whilst out shooting. A while back when there was mention of a goose cull, the RSPB wanted the fowlers to shoot as many as they could during the season rather than have it done out of season by any cowboy with a rifle that could be put on a license as they knew that the guys shooting geese during the season knew what they were doing and knew that the birds wouldn't go to waste. I hear a lot of horror story's about the RSPB from up and down the country but thankfully I don't see it up here.
  9. They don't seem to worry up here, I had 10 in a 6 on one visit and nothing was said.
  10. Leupold VX-1 4-12X40 with wide duplex reticle. The scope is in fantastic condition and glass is like new. £220 + P&P paypal plus fees prefered.
  11. Here in Shetland we have a LOT of ravens. When we are setting up a hide for shooting geese I always think we have got it right when it fools the ravens, they are so wary. A couple of seasons ago I set up on a stubble park and when the first streaks of dawn came in the ravens started leaving their roost in the sea cliffs behind us and started heading in land, I counted 368 that passed over me before the first geese came. Last year there was a farmer that got a licence to kill ravens as he had lost 3 calf's to ravens no distance from his sheds.
  12. I reckon if a raven was in close enough for a shot you would know it was not a crow or rook, they are big, big birds.
  13. I would buy factory and reuse the brass, winchester brass has always given me the best results.
  14. I made something like this a while back so that i didn't have to get off the couch to tell the kids off and as I couldn't find any load data I just mixed all the powder I had together along with some black and filled it right up, the trick I found was to use a heavy crimp to get all that powder burning nicely before the bullet was on its way.
  15. Peter Lawman has vectan powder data to download on his website. http://www.peterlawman.co.uk/vectan
  16. I am selling this on behalf of a friend who bought this scope brand new then had to wait ages to get his FAC and his rifle and in the meantime bought another zeiss with higher mag. The scope is brand new and has never been mounted on a rifle. The reticle is a standard wide duplex type. He is looking for £550 + P&P This is a nice scope.
  17. For sale is my leupold scope which is in near mint condition with perfect glass and it comes with leupold lens covers, it has the wide duplex reticle. The lens covers show a bit more wear than the scope as they were bought second hand. £260 + P&P paypal plus fees preferred.
  18. Thanks again guys. We are just waiting on some bits and pieces to arrive so we can start playing with some loads, I will keep you posted. Aister.
  19. I should think a 1 in 12 will be fine for "ordinary" fox shooting but if you are going longer range with heavier bullets a tighter twist may be better.
  20. Sorry mate, sounds like you need a new wife
  21. Have a watch of this from you tube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oOo-_Ss7aIs
  22. I heightened the comb on my A-bolt to make things feel better with medium mounts and a 50mm lens. To be honest I would advise you to save up some more pennies before buying a scope and go for maybe a second hand leupold or meopta, I wasted a lot of money on cheap scopes that couldn't hold zero when I started shooting.
