  1. My kitts are 11 weeks old now and i'm well chuffed to bits with them. I've never known an animal eat as much as they do! they are growing at rapid rate though. Im fortunate to have access to plenty of meat either in rabbit form or odd leftover bits from work. I put a couple of full size rabbits in with them last week, but one of the older jills kept dragging them away and hogging them, so ended up tying a leg of each of the rabbits to the frame of the hutch, to give them all a fair crack at them. This is what I found in the morning: greedy ******* "who? us?" yeah, butter wouldnt melt i'm sure
  2. I use a 12ft/lb .177 air rifle and my main quarry is rabbits. I have seen loads of hares around my permission, often when bipod-ing - I've never shot one - i'd prefer to watch them anyway to be honest. The kids shot something that he probably shouldnt have (he certainly shouldnt have told us about it on here). Personally I think he's learned a few lessons regarding appropriate behaviour when out shooting and on the forum. The main things that rub me up the wrong way in this thread are young and / or innexperianced shooters shrugging off the advice and / or opinions of the more experienced amognst us - there's no substitute for experience lads, you need to respect that. Also people who look down at airguns and those who use them irritate me, I may not be out taking foxes, hares and the like with a big powder burning rifle - but I can happily lay in the grass on my permissions punching holes through rabbits heads at 40 yrds till the cows come home, not plinking bloody coke cans in the garden.
  3. Cracking vid - 112 in the bag!
  4. I would absolutely love to take them myself - unfortunately the missus isnt a dog person at all (you should have heard the row when I got the ferrets!) I will keep my ears open for you though mate
  5. Now then guys, I took one of my jills to the vet last week for the jill jab to take her out of season. that was about 10 days ago now and she still hasnt come out of season - is that right?
  6. I always gut and skin mine when I get back to the truck before setting off home I also use a stanley knife with those slightly curved blades (for cutting lino etc), you can set the depth of cut and unzip bunnies with ease

  16. My kitts are almost 3 and a half weeks old now. As I was leaving work tonight, a rather unfortunate bunny decided to run under my car in the car park - so his misfortune quickly become my good fortune Went straight home and as soon as Summer saw the rabbit in my hand she went crazy, I opened the door to the hutch and she leapt forward, grabbed the rabbit and tried like ******* to drag it back into the nest. I figured she wanted it in there, so made a few slits in the rabbit with my knife and layed it in there. Summer was straight at it, and within a minute or so a few of the kitts had cottoned on to the idea and were showing interest in the meat. After a few minutes they were all going at it, granted both me and mum had to point the nippers in the right direction a few times - but as you can see, they are well up for it. I hope it will perhaps take a bit of the load off Summer having to feed all 11 kitts maybe.
  17. good one I get out on my permission as often as I can (about once a week at the moment), because when I go hunting, everything from the normal busy daily grind simply melts away and I actually feel relaxed. Add to that the fact im helping maintain the land and bringing food back to either my table or the ferrets.
  18. As detailed in an earlier thread, my Jill Summer had her 1st litter 3 and a half weeks ago. All 11 kitts are doing well and mum seems to coping really well also. My questions are: how long until the little uns open their eyes? and how long should I wait until I re-introduce my other Jill Pepper into the main court?
  19. I'll be working all day and evening until the weekend best of luck tp you though FM, hope you have a great start
  20. Funny you should mention that, i've been a bit worried about her slight frame since having the kits. I sthere anything I can do help her along at all? I keep giving her some of her favourite treats which she takes and eats no problem.
  21. I've finally seen summer running about, having plenty to drink and a bit to eat. Managed to get a quick peek to see if they were all ok etc (without distressing mum at all), looks like 11 little uns to me - all seem to be doing well so far Pepper (the other Jill) has come back into season with avengance since being seperated from Summer - despite having several proper seeing to's from the same hob that knocked up Summer
  22. I got done for the 1st time doing a similar speed in a 30mph zone week before last, there are no mitigating circumstances with these situations. It's not a question of will you ever get caught speeding - it's when.
  23. Just been out to check on the ferts and judging by the squeaking coming from Summers bedding, i'm assuming that she's finally had the kitts I havent seen her show her face yet but i'm keeping well away (other than to make sure she has plenty of food, water etc). How long until I can expect to see them out and about?
