  1. Coconut. . Food stuff of the devil.
  2. Its been bucketing it all day in Harrogate. If it keeps up it'll be waders needed. And a nice camo jacket is compulsory! !
  3. Forgot to say explained that if I did get a gun then it would be stored in my uncles safe and put on his licence until I got my own safe.
  4. I got my certificate without a cabinet. Wasn't an issue. However I'm lucky that I'm in North Yorkshire. Got myself a safe a few months later. They came out and checked it and job sorted.

    Red kite

No where near Chester but theres a red kite in Harrogate that's living in a built up area. I often see it gliding around while driving through town. Its a magnificent bird and from what I understand they used to regularly live alongside settlements ....and its thriving on a diet of kfc and kebabs.

    10000 BC

The whole idea was flawed from the start. You can't place 20 people with no real skills into that environment and expect them to cope. If it was supposed to replicate 10000 bc then a tribe would have knowledge. A mixture of older people with the experience and skills not a group of people with no cohesion or the right skills for the project but I guess the producers didn't think that would make interesting telly.
  7. Sounds like you had a cracking day. I've been on two beaters days this season. One was a small farmers shoot. We shot a small bag of 26 mainly pheasant. However it was an excellent day. Different ground and two snipe drives and a feral pigeon drive which were both firsts for me. The second was a larger shoot. 101 pheasants at 4:1 ratio... good fast high birds with a tasty wind. This was followed by dinner at the pub. Both shoots had the guns beating and they did a fantastic job. Roll on next season.
  8. Don't forget your ear plugs. .. standing next to a gun all day gets a bit noisey. And a stick is always handy especially if you join the beating line. Enjoy
  9. Just googled racoon's in Germany. They are a native North American species but were taken over to Germany in the 1920's to be used in the fur trade. Germany's equivalent of the mink. Apparently up to a million of them around now and they have even crossed the Alps.
  10. Top marks for the id Johnphillip. Yes its Thornton steward. Its a little more expensive at £20 these days but a cracking place. It's mainly rainbows but I had a cracking chubb out on a fly a few years ago. Its fishes best on naturals and drys normally. On the day the boy was adamant that the biggest ugliest red fritz would work. I laughed and gave the sage advice that a black spider would be better.. 4 fish later in half an hour he proved me wrong!!!
  11. The first time my son caught on the fly on his own steam. He caught the first fish of the day and then decided to go round and inform all the other fluff chuckers on the lake where they were going wrong!!!
  12. I was shown the karate chop method by my grandad when I was seven and he took me to check his snares. Completely botched it so the old boy took over and made me a priest for the next time. Sharp tap with a priest then and avoid trying to chin one. Cheers fellas
