In the England and Wales we are limited to sub 12 ft/lb energy for all air rifles including PCP, without a Firearms Certificate, (FAC) Anything more powerful requires a FAC. Not too difficult to get a FAC for air rifle if you have land to shoot over no criminal records resulting in custodial sentencing and doctor’s certification no mental health issues which would be considered dangerous. So what maximum sort of energy could you get out of the CO2 rifle?

Out at crack of dawn this morning. The Conservation wood where I have thinned out the greys over the last year. Only 5 trapped in the two week trapping session in April. The feeder was filled up after the trapping fortnight and for a month remained untouched. Checked again this morning and saw it had had some light interest over the weekend. Sat under a nearby Yew tree and this fellow appeared about 6.45. 580 grams.

A walk out into another conservation wood with one of the grandsons to re-install the refurbished squirrel feeder. Most of the ironwork is reclaimed from the previous feeder. I’ve learnt my lesson not to use OSB for feeders, after a year it started to delaminate. Back to the trusty 18mm plywood and decking board off cuts. This week I’ll get to try out my latest acquisition. A band saw. I’m beginning to like this retirement thing.

Out this morning early, no grey squirrels about, but two Reds. Both chasing and leaping around on the canopy above my hide. One was a bright ginger, this darker one came for a snack.
