They should all be pets as well. My present dog is a hard running one but sit for hours in the hide as good as gold and retrieves (on command )to hand. But I do need to keep the training up. I hope you keep taking him with you and enjoy him .as I am sure he would rather be with you than sat back at home. Try to have your back to a hedge when he is coming back with a retrieve, then he cant run round you .and praise him every time he comes in. Ray.

What breed of pointer(H.P.R.) do you have or is he a English pointer. have owned G.S.P.for over 25 years now and all have been worked/rough shooting/and trailed .also pigeon shooting. what as always impressed me is how adaptable they are. Obviously they need to be out of the correct lines but so far most H.P.R s still have the basics in them. Best of luck with your dog and remember you should( in your eyes) take the best dog out and the beat dog home.

Beware sheep in wolves clothing. could be another anti trying to create a new diversion. To the best of my knowledge BASC have not suggested a close season in fact fought hard to achieve what we have.

I never bother about shot ratio only about getting my pattern right and the birds coming in to it, thats my enjoyment, although normally one goes with the other . That as been very difficult the last few weeks but hopefully I am a learning a little more each time even at my age.

winter shooting is always a bit iffy ,but its important to put a few days in to let the farmers know that you are doing it as much for them as for yourself .I try to get out as much as poss. now that I'v retired.

Been out today mist never lifted .did not see a bird on a field they have been on for awhile now. checked other fields near by . None any where. They had more sense than me.

I had already signed being made aware from one of the gun dog groups I am a member of. My apologies if any spelling mistakes, all are not all university educated . Any one who is under the impression that shooting is not on the agenda of the RSPCA is living in cloud cuckoo land.

Have set it up a couple of times now and I think its just a case of getting the hang of it seems easy now. did spray with my gun cleaner as sugested to after use. Ray.

Arrived today whilst out shooting.Looks just the job, just got to get use to setting up.Can not be worse than my shooting today. even the dog got fed up. Ray.

Although I have G.s.p s if I only participated in pigeon shooting I would endorse what Actionpigeons wrote. Having said that after training hprs,for many years I feel that whatever breed you settle on must come from good proven working stock.Its best if you can see both parents working. Best of luck with what ever you decide and remember that what you put into the dog you will get out. I enjoy the training as much as the working.all views expressed so far are good. as for sex I believe each dog is it self and needs training accordingly to its triants .so even when training you will have ups and downs but you will get great satisfaction and love from a dog.

it should be the policy of every one that comes into the country side. for whatever reason including ramblers and anti country sports folk. If only we all left it a little cleaner than we found it.problem only taken seriously by the converted.

each one to their own opinion, Have been a member for two years and despite last year being difficult found organiser helpful. If you work out the cost per day its got to be good value.Doing reccy very important.

I have likewise problem in North Leicestershire ,Farmers always seem to have someone doing the control but never see them about. Have joined the NPPC. to get some shooting but have to travel to Northamptonshire. and one or two shots and the birds are off to another field.Would be more than happy to oblige any one wishing to have another gun in the area and at short notice as now retired.also have trained gun dog. Been out on a H.P.R. gun dog field trail today and could not miss noticing the large amount of sloes and berries still in/on the hedges. Plenty of pigeons about but not on the rape fields.

seems this mild winter is playing mother nature up. don't seem to be helping with the decoying or shooting though. may be we are going to get a sting in the tail yet.

went out but was few mins late a setting up Flock came over and settled out of range. walked them off and they went into next field. Few birds came over decoys but a bit to high to shoot at. One trio came over about 25 yards up. managed to kill one outright. Not A productive morning but at least they are about and feeding on the rape. Hopping for better days to come.

been out on reccy today . walked a large flock of rape . They just went into nearby trees. So hears hopping for tomorow.

Thats good. Would just like to give praise where it is due. My shotgun cert not due for renewing until mid JAN 2012. I had no notification that it was due by mid Nov. So down loaded forms from Leicestershire Constabulary web site and sent off . Officer contacted me with in one week came and did his home check,due to me having purchased new Browning two days before, was unable to leave new certificate. However the new certificate has arrived well before old one has expired . So thank you to the officer and Leicester Constabulary for being so on the ball.

if you think that shooting is not on the agenda for L.A.C.S. your very much mistaken. I have been shooting for over 50 years and wish for it to go for my grand kids to enjoy as much as I do.
