Now, now, dont be envious.ha ha.

Just objected to the way you inferred that we may have "timewasters" among us, not the best way to sell anything as it puts alot off even enquiring, but hey glad you got a sale.

  2. not sure if he does want to be back. kirky will be kirky which ever forum he goes on.

its a funny old world when folks on here have murderers, bare knuckle fighting thugs, etc as hereos, then ask for a bloke who gets a bit lippy to stay banned. get a life.

even the old bill give a bit a grace .

Well said, as I understand it the guys had a hard time of it over the last year, what with losing the farm, his fathers health then the do gooders having a go about a sheepdog going berserk, enough to drive any man to drink.

I voted yes because his contributions were honest and relevent to our sport, what MB says is very true regarding double standards. Let Kirky return and if he steps out of line ban him but not for life, after all what could he have done that was so bad to merit that?

  4. Have just got a Hawke shot saver and in the instructions they say that a scope should not be adjusted in large increments in any one direction and to adjust the windage and elevation together. Some of one, then some of t,other and to over adjust and come back if one requires more if necessary.

Some time ago I posted about a problem with a Simmons scope where the crosshair point of impact went diagonally when using a Collimater, my RFD was screwing the windage by large amounts quite quickly in one go, followed by the elevation this is what caused the diagonal effect, now I have followed the other method its zeroed spot on at 75yds.

I hope this makes sense and maybe will help someone.

  5. Could you enlarge on that please? How do you set yours up?

    :whistling: D2D

    As you asked..

Using 'normal' rings (not warne types) I mount the bases how I want them, thinking about if I would want to fit a lamp to the scope or not.

I put electrical tape inside the rings if they are not Optilocks, which don't need it.

Then get a small spirit level, I have a magnetic one which is ideal, stick that accross the dovetails so the gun is level.

I then get a longer spriit level an stand it vertically as far away as possible indoors, normally about 30 feet of so.

Then drop the scope onto the bases and line the vertical cross hair up with the side of the spirit level and set the eye relief.

Bolt it down nicely, evenly and gently a bit at a time.

Once that is all done, I go upstairs and line up the bore of the gun with an object in the distance and support the gun as securely as I can.

Then the cross hairs can be adjusted onto that object (the adjustment is back to front in this instance, up=down, left=right etc)

This will get it onto a sheet of A4 at 100 yards, I do the rest at the range.

    Works for me :D

Interesting, useful tip there, I wasnt being funny when I asked. I hope others will post their tried and tested methods as Im sure many of us will find it useful to compare different ways.

  6. Manufacturers recommend when fitting a new scope to wind the crosshairs to their extreme, counting the clicks, wind back half this number so as to center the crosshairs correctly.

How many do this? To be honest I don't.

I thought that AND in the booklet it said 250 clicks but the scope only went to 190 odd?

I suppose the cost (pennies!!) to have some poor little person of far eastern origin twiddling the scopes would eat into the vast profits of the "haves".

The present mrs D2D thought I was quite mad as I sat in front of the telly with the scope to my ear listening and counting the clicks :whistling:

  7. There have been a few posts recently where mag has ben discussed, and clearly some people feel they need more than others, and some poeple are happy with open sights.

I will lay all my cards on the table up front.

    I have 3 rifles.

    1) .22 rimfire with a Meopta 7x50 fixed - great scope for rabbits out to about 70-80 yards, never felt the need for anything more, in fact it replaced 3-9x50 Hawke that was used on 7x all the time. The only difference being the optics, the Meopta is much clearer and pulls in the light well.

    2) .223 has a 4-16x50 Swarovski, I got this because it came up on ebay right at the time I was looking for new scope, I hardly ever use 16x, as it gets a bit parallax fussy and eye releif becomes critical, but I wind it up to about 12x or 14x for load testing.

    3) 6.5 has a 3-12x50 Swarovski, propably the best scope I will ever own, I needed a scope to do everything from driven game to load testing, and this will do all that. Previously this rifle had 6x42 S&B which was is the perfect stalking scope for anything out to 200 yards, I used red dot for driven game trip, but next time I go I will just wind it back to 3x.

So the question is, are we all using more a more magnification because we can, or do we feel it makes us better shots?

I have an old 4x81 Pecar Berlin which I almost got rid of, its an excellent low light scope and 4x is just right at dusk.

Whilst on the subject I read, I think it was on a pinned topic, that any scope without Parrallax adjustment under performs at over 100yds range, any comments?

  8. i am close to buying a cz452 american with standard barrel in .17hmr. i want to shoot paper out to about 100 yards and also shoot rabbit, squirrel, and crows etc.. i am figuring on installing a 3X9X40 scope on it. what do you think? do you think it is a mistake not getting the heavy barrel and beefing up on the scope?

Have you looked at the 453? I am in same position as you and cant make up my mind if extra cost is worth it?

    Any comments appreciated.

    D2D

  9. On my way back from work i saw a dead jackdaw in the road and about 20 metres up the road was a live one wandering round on the kerbings,so me being the soft *** that i am,got out and and picked it up(could tell it was a young one by its kermit looking beak otherwise i wouldnt of bothered). Now hes here in the aviary looking quite happy for himself,i was wondering if anyone has had any experiance looking after these, ive fed him dog food, maggots and bread soaked in water, which hes taking from tweezers, anything else i can give him or do.

i can guarrente some of you will say let him go but i cant hes too dopey looking!!!

  10. Normally I just slip the chambered cartridge out, if putting it in the truck to move areas, if going over a ditch, through brambles etc, the safety is on and I have developed the habit, with all guns, of putting the whole of my hand over the trigger guard, completely covering it.

If clay shooting or in company I use an AUTOGUARD its a rubber bung shaped like a cartridge with a 2" green flag or tag , it shows everyone that the Auto is safe and chamber is unloaded.

IMO this device is well worth having as it instantly shows the gun is safe.

    D2D

  11. I have seen one let alone try one, but there are thousands (millions?) of happy 452 users out there.

If it was me I would get a 452, put a good few shots through it, get it loosened up.

Adjust the trigger if you don't like it, and if you don't like it after that get the trigger kit.

The 'kit' is only a set of softer springs, and some tubes to try if you haev too much creep.

I know of 4 452's, 2 needed the kit, 2 didn't, and the 2 that needed it didn't use the tubes.

I think (not sure) dunganick has 453 experience...

OK thanks for the info, I dont want to rush into buying one if its not that much improved.

Hopefully someone will come on tonight who has already bought one.

    D2D

  12. Well I have a 452 and 527.

The trigger on the 452 is miles better than the trigger on the 527 - so work that one out

Thats exactly why I am asking the question, I know how much my dealer wants for a 452 and no doubt there will be an increase in price for the 453, is it worth the extra cash?

    D2D

  13. Hi all I posted this by mistake in a section that does not allow replies so have reposted correctly.

Has anyone bought a CZ 453 how does it compare with the 452?

Peter tells me the trigger setup is the same as my 527 .223 which must make the need for a tuning kit obsolete?

    D2D

  14. Hi all, done the usual search but failed to find any posts from 453 owners.

I am considering adding a CZ .22 453 to the cupboard, I have a .223 527 already and like it. :good:

What is the new trigger like, is it as good as they say?

I am thinking of the Varmit as opposed to the American because of the shorter barrel and being slightly heavier any comments?

How much should a "tightwad" like me be paying?

    Thanks

    D2D

Sorry mods meant to post in Guns and Equipment

    Ahh...blissful ignorance!!

    Ignorance (plural ignorances) Noun

The condition of being uninformed or uneducated. lacking knowledge or information.

Hey you sayin I,s higorant..........

Heavy emphasis on the Blissful part, I do like a good bonnie.

  17. I have found that if you put up a near solid camo back net and sit very still in front of it on an old drum or a similar COMFORTABLE seat, wearing full DPM the birds do not pick up on you until the last minute as you mount to fire.

I have to argue that pigeons are totally colour blind they are spooked by white sheets hung in trees as bird scarers, I have read that they see in black and white, which I suppose is colour blind :lol:
