  1. sickening amount of tax we pay and what you're seeing is the first time you're taxed before you spend any money and get hit for Vat etc

As for the do as you likeys whats ****** me off this week is the pictures of the Horse being drowned at Appleby horse fair over the weekend. As it was ****** and its tradition its fine to drag year old horses into water make them swim and then dunk their heads under. Local council are even defending it, now who was saying fox hunting was cruel is it just totally class biased or is it that everyone is scared of ******

Hi al4x I missed all this what happened to the horse(s)?

Cant believe they deliberately drowned a horse and there was no public outcry. :good:

    D2D

  2. Here are a few pics of the foxes i shot last night.

first 1 i shot at about 9.pm - i went out early because i know she has been about the place at that time of day, i pulled into a field on a bit of ground i shoot over and had just got the truck, i looked across they field and she was sat down in the middle of it about 400 yrds away. so i got down and crawled about 200 yrds towards her as there was a mound in the field that i could not see over when lying down. as i got to the top of the mound i saw that she had come closer into me and was standing only about 90 yrds away, so it was down with the bipod legs, cocked the rifle and Bang! - a 55grn ballistic tipped bullet went hurtling towards her from my .243. and down she went .

The second 1 is a cub i shot later on at about 12.30 whilst out lamping, we were driving around the estate and we turned the lamp on to see it was out all by its self in the middle of a field ( might have something to do with me shooting her brother and sister last week :good: ). it was 125yrds away, same thing again - cocked rifle and Bang another 55grn bullet hits the target spot on.

pic of the cub is a little graphic - but shows what a ballistic tip does to the little buggars !

    another succesful night out

    Cheers Paul

pics have come in the wrong way round - so the cub is the first picture you see

That is not nice, sure it wasnt .50 cal

It appears graphic because, I take it, the round entered the chest full on and angled to exit through the side of the stomach?

    D2D

  3. Unless you are incurring some exceptional costs, like a 100 mile round trip , four times a week, I would politely refuse any money.

Today its this Ground Manager, tomorrow it might be someone else and he might be looking to save some money.

The most I have ever taken for many years of vermin control, is the odd box of cartridges from a generous Farmer (and you know how few and far between they are )

And you did very well to get that :lol:

    :good: D2D

  4. Good for you but I can't blame a guy for hogging what he could put to use, letting some areas have a temporary respite from shooting. While 600 acres is great for a start, if you shoot on a regular basis it's really not all that big and you could soon find yourself with little left to aim at. :D

I'm fortunate enough to be able to let some areas go for months between visits - then have a darn good night or two on it before moving on again. Mind you - the night would be some 5 or 6 hours on foot.

I`ve got quite a lot of land bud, but a bit more is always welcome. As you say rest it. I loose a substancial amount in the pheasant season so am always on the lookout for a bit extra to tide myself over the winter. This new land has got some decent woodland areas which i dont have at the moment.

I guess, with this bit i`ve got about 2,500 acres. I posted up cos i was like a dog with two ***** just having this land fall into my lap.

And I always thought the IOW was only a little place,:yes::D

    :good: D2D

  5. i went to a working test today and got a first place for novice dog novice handler went with my lab who is two years old its a great feeling one very happy lab owner hopefully nany more wins to come i hope :good::good:

Well done Im envious, I have been trying for years with two labs to gain a First place, have had loads of 2nds 3rds etc seldom out of the top five, but never had a first, you must be very satisfied, now you have to keep up the training ???

    D2D

  6. pass plus is a waste of time in my opinion,

Anything that can cut out deaths of young inexperienced drivers in not a waste of time.

There is far more benefit that just the financial side of it.

I couldnt agree more, the reason I mentioned pass plus was that when my daughter did it she not only gained further advanced tuition including night driving, which for the life of me I dont understand why its not part of the test together with motorway driving, but actually had an appreciable discount on her insurance, she also had motorway lessons after passing.

  7. My Lab Astra was taken to the vets as she was licking all the hair from her thighs, turns out she has dry skin and I now have to give her 2X cod liver oil tabs a day to keep it at bay.

My granddad used to swear by bob martin condition tablets, and I guess a lot of folk take vitamins.

She is on Skinners Field and Trial Muesli, which I soften with a little weak gravy, its says on the sack (all your dog needs for a balanced diet) but should I consider any other supplement?

Hi P, why not get a large bottle of cod liver oil and give a couple of tablespoons in her food?

Its cheaper and easier to give, as an aside give her cold tea (made with your old teabags ) this gives a really nice gloss to the coat. Good luck with the prob.

  8. Imo keeping it simply is the best idea when you start quoting legislation and trying to be smart (not a dig) farmers arent going to like it.

The most important thing to do is make friends with the farmer and make sure he is happy then you wont have any problems. As for the permission just have a letter that states that you have permission to shoot over his lands with whatever firearm and in what capacity.

This is my view, keeping it simple can pay dividends should a problem arise, its more important to maintain a rapport with the landowner/farmer if you ask for a complicated form to be signed most will want to study it in detail "later when they have time".

Just add that its a good idea to carry a photocopy of the permission together with your certs when out shooting, especially when out lamping and plod turns up :stupid:

  9. god i hate mine.

the only mode he seems to speak in is sarcastic. so annoying. if i make a mistake at the beginning of the lesson, it all seems to go down hill from there.

whats all ur experiances with bad driving instructors.(hotshot is excluded) :stupid:

    cheers

    flash

    Flash,

Change your instructor and you will actually start looking forward to your lessons, its expensive enough without having to endure an attitude, give him his marching orders pronto and get someone on your wavelength, a good instructor will teach you far more than the basic requirements to pass the test.

Do the "Pass Plus" when you have the test under your belt it will save you far more than what it costs in insurance discount and prepare you for all sorts of situations.

    :stupid: D2D

  10. We were out last night 11pm with the same problem, too much light and no wind which is not to my liking, but theres no moon next week and the grass fields are about to be cut, should be a bunny bonanza, still it was good just to be out.

We finished with 16 in the hour or so, most were half grown and very easy shots, I dont like shooting them particularly, but if we dont there,s always someone ready to step in your shoes!! :stupid:

    :stupid: D2D

  11. personally, i find 35 yds is the best distance to zero into, but thats just me. also, if you have one, use a clamp to secure the rifle that way it is absolutely dead still so there is no human error to be made. hope that helps ya :stupid:

B&D workmate is ideal for the job with a 2" x 2ft bit of 1/8th ply or hardboard laid just under the moveable "jaws" on the metal to rest the forend on. It will go in the boot of the car easily.

    :stupid: D2D

  12. Sorry about all the pictures. I get so enthusiastic and being into cameras I take a picture of everything, thats why I host them on my web server. Do think I should cut down?

As others have said its good to see your enthusiasm, next time you have a successful day leg the bunnies and hang them on a 2ft by 1" length of hazel, post the PHOTO  , would look very professional.

The length of the stick depends on how good a hunt you had :/

    D2D

  13. Am I correct in saying that every year someone dies?

I'm sure I heard that somewhere.

If that is true then that is the only down side to it all.

My uncle Kenneth was killed there riding a 500cc Norton in 1953 he was an independant entry with no works backing, seems very small time when compared with todays bikes, but they didnt have the brakes or suspension systems we have nowadays.
