  1. I have a Beretta 682 gold E that I use mainly for clays and driven days and an old AYA sxs that I use for pigeon shooting. The trouble is the AYA is now very old and is starting to work loose. I like the fact that I don't worry if the AYA gets scratched etc but I have always shot a lot better with the 682 as it fits me perfectly. Now the AYA is no longer fit for purpose should I just use the 682 which is in mint condition and not worry about the odd scratch or get another cheap gun for the pigeons ? Cheers EMT
  2. Well I know that this Poll is about as Un-Scientific as it gets but maybe my theory was right as it does seem we have quite a few lefties within the shooting fraternity. The reason I started this was on Saturday the usual mob met up at the farm to go roost shooting and it turned out that all 5 of us were lefties. I happen to know that 2 of the other guns that should have been there were also lefties. Strange hey ....It would make a great paper for a psychology student to see if there was any significance and if so why
  3. Hi Starlight, This sounds very similar to a problem I have just resolved for a friend. It may as well be a virus for the good it does.!!! His version was called something like "system security" and was installed like a program. It kept popping up warnings telling him his system was unsecured and he had x number of viruses etc. It also did lots of other wierd things like hijacking his google search. Nortons couldn't detect it as a threat, nor could it be uninstalled through add remove programs. So after searching the net it turned out to be a common problem and some free software was downloaded to remove it. It did remove the program but did not resolved the google problem. I would google the exact name of the application, it should be in your programs list and see if there is a common solution to the problem. If your not having any luck PM me with the details and I will see what I can dig up. Cheers EMT
  4. I have noticed that there seems to be a lot of shooters who are Left Handed. The national average for lefties is only 7 - 10 % (Depending on the source of data). So I thought I would do a totally UN-Scientific study to find out if there are more lefty shooters than the national average.
  5. I have seen this happen on a few commercial shoots that I have been on. Luckily I was not paying for the day and I also didn't shoot the pigeon either. I think worse than this is when one of the beaters dogs pegs a bird or two and they then get put in the game cart and count towards the total. I was talking to one of the beaters today who beats on a few commercial shoots and his dog pegged 5 pheasants that were all put in the game cart at £30 + VAT a bird.
  6. Cat, I totally agree with you fella, we normally shoot with around 5 of us spread out across 3 farms but there was only 2 of us that turned up. EMT
  7. I was pigeon shooting on the next farm to that one on Saturday and they were in massive flocks then. One shot and they just ******** off to another field.
  8. Hi Mosa, I have a bit of experience with these as I own a dog grooming business. There is a big difference between the cheap sets you see in arg*s and a profesional set of dog clippers. The main difference is that the cheap ones come with a fixed blade and you use a comb attachment to vary the length of hair. (The same as the ones hairdressers use). This is fine if your dogs coat is PERFECTLY groomed out and spotless clean. If not the comb will not go through the coat. The proper set have different blades that are changeable to vary the length of hair. You should only need a couple of blades three at the most depending on the dog and the type of cut you want to give it. The three top brands are Wahl, Andis and Oster and should last forever. If you PM me with what breed of dog you have and how you want it cutting then I can tell you which blades you need for which part of the body.
  9. Just had a look on ebay and there are quite a few. I'll think I will start with these and see where I go from there. Thanks for all your help folks.

    My new job

That is one of the best posts I have read in bl**dy ages. It is so refreshing to hear that someone is happy and they are going to be doing something they enjoy in such as beautiful place. I wish you all the luck in the world. Well done !!!!!
  11. Just gave the guys at Ivor Searle a ring and although they wouldn't do a recon for my Rangie they are looking for a second hand engine for me. Very helpfull people but I bet its not going to be cheap. I knew I should have bought the shogun instead :-)
  12. Well my worse fears were confirmed by the garage, and my engine failure is terminal. I'm not sure whether or not to go with a reconditioned engine or try and find one second hand. The garage has tried to put me off going down the recon route as they have had bad experiences in the past, but I'm also worried about getting a second hand one as you just can't prove the history or mileage. Anyone had any experience with recon's or can recommend a reputable dealer :look:? I have only had the vehicle 2 months and I am absolutely gutted. EMT
  13. This incident was shocking. I was called to attend this robbery just after it happened so for professional reasons I can't say a lot more than has been released in the media but they went straight to the safe with the right tools for the job and managed to get it off the wall. http://www.echo-news.co.uk/news/3786268.Up...enfleet_robbery
  14. I have to agree with clayman. I bought a slab of Hull Comp x 21 gram for my wife as they produce hardly any recoil. I took them to my local shoot last sunday to have a go with them and hit 42 / 50. My best ever is only 43 / 50 and that was some time ago. I am now a convert to light loads.

    999 calls

I work for the Ambulance Service and these callers are very real. So far some of the more stupid calls I have arrived at are : 1. To close a window for a woman who lived on the 7th floor of a tower block because she was afraid of burglars. (They sent a car and an ambulance to that !!!!!) 2. Called to a high street for a woman because she wanted somewhere to sit out of the sun for 10 minutes. 3. To make a woman a bowl of soup. 4. To a house because a neighbour wanted the bloke next door to pop round but couldn't be bothered to walk next door to tell him. These are just a few I could go on all day. These calls were ones I actually attended, not just calls to 999.
  16. Hi Jerry, Sorry to throw a spanner in the works but I own a dog grooming parlour and there is a massive difference in the types of clippers. One of the main differences is that the cheaper models use a fixed blade (like a barbours) and then use comb attachments to vary the length of hair, whilst a decent set of clippers comes with removable blades which are changed to alter the length of hair. You don't say what dog you have and how you want it clipping but if your dog has anything but a perfectly groomed out coat the comb attachments will just not go through it. You don't need to buy all the blades available and on most dogs two will do. If you wanted to go down the removable blade route let me know what dog you have and I can tell you what blades you will need. These blades can also be sharpened for about £4 a time and will last you a lifetime. With the fixed blades you tend to just buy another blade when they go blunt. Andis, Oster and Wahl all make good clippers. Hope this help and feel free to PM if you have any questions.
  17. Cheers for that. Its one of those things I keep seeing in magazines and always wondered what it did.
  18. This is probably a really daft question but it has been bugging me for ages. What does the little lever you see on some sidelocks do?? See photo.
  19. Triscrx, At least the Goalkepper works, not like the Phalanx we used to have on type 42's (HMS Cardiff etc) now that was a piece of junk. Have you got your draft through yet ? EMT
  20. Dingo, Sorry to hijack the thread but how do you remove the ejectors on your 682. It would be a great help. Cheers EMT
  21. I had the same problem with the 682 gold E and took the gun back to the shop. It turns out that all the beretta's with the optima bored barrels have a similar problem. What I do is use some 009 and leave it for half an hour then use a chamber brush. It does get rid of the crud but the barrels still look as though they have very fine scratches on them just after the chambers for about three inches.
  22. I think it also depends on how much you have to spend. I tried starting my wife on my Lanber 12b and she just couldn't get on with it and complained it felt barrel heavy, so I took the plunge and took her to the gunshop and let her try every gun in there including 20b. The one she picked was a 12b beretta 682 gold E and she shoots 24g cartridges with no problems at all. She can shoot 4 rounds of skeet without once complaining the gun is heavy. The gun just seems much better balanced even though it is about the same weight as the lanber.
  23. Hi, I don't know if you have tried Alan at Eastern Sporting in Great Baddow but he is about the most helpful man I have ever met. It might have something to do with the fact I spend all my wages in there and then some, but I am sure he would do the transfer for you the old fashioned way. I think the last time I needed his service for something simular he wanted £20 Hope this helps EMT
