  1. Thanks - that's more or less what I worked out with the chamber brush handle and jag 👍
  2. Ha 👍 Mine seems to get small amounts of grit in the threads some how... 👍 👍 Cheers 👍
  3. Does anyone know if there is a tool that makes cleaning the internal choke threads less of a hassle? *please ignore - a chamber brush handle and jag work perfectly.
  4. 👍 I use to eat farmed duck breast all the time when i lived in the Netherlands, but these are just bog standard mallard from a duck drive
  5. I cooked these this evening - they were every bit as good as they look If I die in my sleep tonight I will be a happy man ( https://instagram.com/jack_snipe_uk for more pics)
  6. I did feel a twinge of guilt if u'm bring honest - but I can confirm no dammage was done to the table
  7. I agree - gun makers figured our years ago that shotguns (if looked after) last forever. You often need a gimmick to sell more guns when the existing ones are just fine (which isn't to say that there have been no technological developments, but still....)
  8. Thanks - it's a wonderful table. I didn't know it was possible to like tables quite as much until it came along.
  9. Ah, I did not know that - but it makes a lot of sense now you mention it. 👍 thanks 👍
  10. Some pictures of my AYA's (that I've posted previously) in their recently purchased case
  11. On a sightly diffrent topic - I picked up an AYA brochure from a game fair last year that gave the impression that now a Churchill rib is available as an option to order on a number of their guns. I've also read about Churchill ribs on some old English 26" guns. However, thats not to take away from your point that AYA XXV's dont come in 26" by definition.
  12. https://basc.org.uk/basc-briefs-labour-party-following-firearms-licensing-comments/ Snap
  13. Just to add - I put 30g and some softer 32g cartridges through my AYA no2's no trouble. Lyalvale 32g '5' fiber wad 'Super Game' work perfectly well without being too fierce on the shoulder (in my estimation at least). Also, re muzzle flip (and you may already know this, but I didnt figure it out for years so I'll mention it anyway) - if you hold the barrels instead of the forend, you get far better control and far less muzzle flip with a side by side.
  14. It's irritatingly difficult thing to discuss because the wording is so slippery / subtle. It's very carefully worded in the sense that it means different things to diffrent pepole. It appeals to the pepole who don't like guns, it also appeals to the middle of the road / man in the street, because he infers from it that only criminals and those who may be a danger will feel the force of the law. Starmer wants those votes. It also works because it sounds like the right thing to say to an electorate, in the wake of a terrible event, who (largely) do not understand the previous failings of licencing departments / their role in previous tragedies (albeit those involving legally held guns). I agree with you, it's not about fixing the system, it's about labour winning votes - and taken for what it is - it's very very cleverly worded. 👍
  15. I agree with your interpretation completely - the man in the street will listen to / read those words and find nothing objectionable or unreasonable. It's phrased for the general population and its phrased very carefully. We, on the other hand read it and concern ourselves with being used as cheap political capital.
  16. I'm sure I've said it before, but that's a lovely gun - even more so for the family connection. My Grandmother handed all of my Grandfather's guns into the police after he died in the 1970s - including a Churchill. We still have his first gun (an air rifle), a pig skin gun case, and a nicely engraved hammer gun lock that was was probably from one of his father's guns, but apart from that, a big empty nothing.
  17. I spend far too much time thinking about this exact topic - aprox 7lb for a 'do it all' gun I think is about right. Enough weight for a decent swing, but no so heavy you can't carry it around on a walked up day. That said - I'll doubt myself every now and again and try taking a 8lb+ gun rough shooting or do something equally daft in the other direction....
  18. I think it was something to do with ring bulges / the steel not being able to cope with the extra pressure - but it might have been because it was on an American forum and their cartridges are a bit hotter than ours?
  19. I seem to remember reading something about the barrels on most B25's not liking any type of steel shot (regardless of choke) - maybe something to look into the way things are going?
  20. There's also the Browning Special Waterfowl - I can vouch for the 425 version myself. Heavy, but an excellent gun, and it's possible to pick them up for reasonable prices second hand.
  21. I wouldn't know about specific repercussions re SSSI's etc - however In a general sense, I can recall an incident (not on a sssi) involving myself and a local anti who was (quite literally) hiding behind some bushes. I had shot a game bird, lost it and searched for an hour and a half at least, then gone home in frustration as it was going dark - planning to return (and actually returning) the next day. Said anti went in after I left with a dog, found it and took a picture, that was then sent to a local newspaper to cause trouble.... That was the result of me being unlucky and acting entirely legally. The right (wrong?) pepole would make hay with you given the chance.
  22. I think my post edit and your post may have crossed in the mail. I get the strong impression that legaly if you shoot over an sssi there should be a consent in place - I would imagine that the terms of that consent could include bag numbers, as some wildfowling clubs have found out.
  23. Awful thing to happen regardless of who did it - regardless of the weird circumstances the birds were found in. Edit - excellent response from BASC.
  24. There's a lovely dichotomy between the 'BASC should consult its members' mindset and the lack of responses to the consultations and questionnaires they sends out....
