As said I’ll go to a gun room to check fit etc. It’ll be used for game, vermin & occasionally clays. Thanks

I’ve had a cheap o/u thats served me well for over 4 years, paid £100 for it so it owes me nothing. Shot fairly well with it & in that time a mate has repaired a crack in the wood & tightened it up when it became loose. He reckons I should scrap it & buy a new gun. I’m looking at spending no more than £1000 on a 2nd hand gun. Browning or Beretta yes but theres so many models I’m stumped. I will go to a shop to see what size fits me but need advice on best models to look for. Thanks

Still looking for a cheap .410 for my 9 year old daughter. Based in Tyne & Wear, ideally located not too far away. Durham, Northumberland etc. Rough but safe would be fine just to see if she gets the bug & something I can butcher to fit her. Thanks

This farm occasionally has geese on & is only 3 miles from a big reservoir. The farmer started combining last night & I’m hoping this might attract them. Never shot them on here but wondered if its worth setting decoys up first light & calling? Seen nothing last night in the skies...

My FAO when applying for my licence last year was happy it was bolted to the exterior brick wall. But he did say he’d be happier if I fitted some trim around to stop anyone getting a bar behind. I just agreed but thought his suggestion offered very little in the way of extra security...,

Thanks mate, where would I find the markings to identify the fixed choke sizes?
-
Can anyone assist me with these markings? Do they identify choke & if so what do they equate too? Thanks

I just wish you weren’t a 6 hour round trip. Looking for a cheap .410 I can butcher for my daughter. Missed the last auction will have to wait for the next.... -
What to wear for informal syndicate?
Proudly replied to AdamSouthEast's topic in Stalking & Game Shooting
Our shoot was very informal. A couple of the older fellas like the shoot captain wore breeks & shooting socks. Dressed head to toe in Barbour which is local to us. Nobody was bothered what you wore. I preferred to be dry & comfortable. Its fine standing on a peg but when you’re part of a very informal shoot without beaters & you’re crawling though thick cover, working your dogs the clothing comes before tradition. You can still respect your quarry without dressing like a Lord. -

Steel through tight chokes and ‘older’ guns?
Proudly replied to wildfowler.250's topic in Wildfowling
I have a Baikal s/s which I believe is full & extra full choked reading up on the model I have. I’m not in the position to buy a steel proofed gun atm so would like to use this for wildfowling. I only paid £50 for it so no big deal if it gets damaged. I’ve read the possibility of using standard steel shells instead of super steel? Question being where can I buy standard steel shells & would it be ok to use them? What would be the cost to have the barrels shortened to remove the chokes? -
I’m in Tyneside mate but do get about.

Funds are limited atm but wondered if anyone in the North East England area had an old single barrel .410 thats taking up space in their cabinet. My 9yr old daughter wants to shoot with me but ideally would love to find an old cheap gun before forking out for a more suitable option for her. Thanks

Ours was set for 3pm daily & as above packed midway through the season so buy 2.

Thats what I was thinking SS, will we struggle to get permits early in the season? Would like to get over for a couple of nights in a b&b if possible. What are peoples opinions on carrying/storing guns whilst travelling for shooting? Best practices etc.

Place gone mate

Thanks everyone

Been a regular visitor over the years to the area but only ever fished never shot. Seen that its possible to buy weekly wildfowling permits but wondered how you go about approaching a few days shooting. Is it better to get a guide or just find out as much info as possible before trying yourself?

As said Daz I was lucky due to an invite, this is not my permission. My farm has nothing but hay fields atm. I shot 2 pigeons & a few corvids so this was a treat for me.
