  1. It seems I enjoy fishing too It's stopped raining for a bit, I can get on with something more constructive now Can I shoot cats from over the road?
  2. Believe me. I'm not going to shoot unless I can positively identify the quarry but I read of people shooting foxes at night over long distances. Perhaps I would have seen more through a scope. I'm guessing this isn't the kind of thing that people would admit to even if they had?
  3. Went out on my permission tonight, without a gun, to see if the advice I'd be offered by a friend of where to go was sound. As soon as I switched my torch on, three rabbits bolted for cover, right in front of a good back stop. I then moved over the field towards another boundary and shone the torch along the hedgerow. After a bit of squeaking, I suddenly had two eyes trained on me, shining white in the torchlight (no filter). I squeaked a bit more but they vanished. What are the tell tale signs of a fox rather than a cat? Have you ever shot a cat by accident?
  4. I presume this is the one... couldn't find it on their site but it's certainly a large pile!
  5. Perhaps I'll have to get you over for the next round of the Sussex Rimfire Challenge?
  6. Haven't tried them - going to try RWS as that's all my local RFD is getting in. If they don't work then I'll go further afield to someone with a bigger stock
  7. Bit spooky walking down quiet, narrow lanes in the dark to get to the pub - I'll take the rifle next time
  8. Drank my prize this evening - pint of Harveys - went down a treat!
  9. It was a feeble attempt at a joke & a dig at Sussex police who wouldn't give me a .243 ok initial. Maybe if I had a bit more land than I have they might have reconsidered. Quite jealous!
  10. You must be wrong, you can't get a .243 on an initial application, ask Sussex... :( Congratulations, nonetheless, I know someone selling a tidy Tikka T3 combo if you're interested.
  11. A buddy bottle PCP, Theoben Rapid or similar is what I'd go for, perhaps in .177 or .20 for pigeon
  12. It was a little brusque but I hope he'll be pleased to know that I haven't shot the .223 yet and don't intend to until I'm happy with the .22LR. The fact that was getting sub 1-inch groups at 50 yards with a change in ammo shows that both me and the rifle are capable of good accuracy, albeit from a prone position. Once my new stock of subs arrives, I'll get the scope properly dialled in and start practicing from standing. Going to place some targets out in the fields to practice on - possibly apples on sticks I won't be going out on my own to begin with anyway as want someone there to help me prep a rabbit, should I kill one.
  13. My RFD is getting some in, he took back the 300 CCI but I've got about 60 to waste, plus the Eley and remaining Winchester. Oddly, the Winchester were grouping high yesterday when I shot, but my friend was grouping low with them (through my rifle). The other brands were more or less on bull
  14. I got best results with Winchester SuperX, not bad with Eley but the CCI are still dismal. Going to trade in what's left for Winchester, although it's been recommended I try RWS.
  15. So no point killing a fox as another one will move in, but removing a live fox prevents another one moving in how, exactly? I'm sure there are some delighted farmers who love to rehome all these displaced foxes, who are probably able to switch to living in the wild without any problems...
  16. Most forums are wary of new people registering and then immediately trying to sell things. It's worth remembering that people don't have to provide proof of who they are and it's easy to be a big man when you're not actually face to face. Glad you've stuck around
  17. It was down to the wire but England beat Northern Ireland in the East Sussex Rimfire Challenge and as a result, my mate Alan is going to have to buy me a pint tomorrow night
  18. Did a brief test today - got sub-inch group with Winchester Super X, slightly bigger with Eley but the CCI were still all over the place. Going to take them back to the shop tomorrow and exchange for Winchesters...
  19. It seems that this is a range of different lubricants etc. marketed under the WD40 brand. As mentioned, original WD40 is a water dispersant (and effective solvent for many things). It does have some lubrication properties but so does spit
  20. There are some rather abrupt characters on here but also some very helpful, kind and knowledgable ones too.
