  1. A quick query for the knowledgeable. A friend of mine has asked me about gettings barrels re-blued, he has a couple of wear marks and was thinking about using a cold blue solution to touch them up, i know this can be a little hit or miss and it doesn't last particularly well. The other option of course is getting them re-done properly. So any idea of ball park pricing on getting a set of 30" OU barrels reblacked? Modern gun, no dents, dings, loose or bashed ribs, etc, he just wants them cosmetically perfect.
  2. Yeah, i'd like to see that number too.
  3. I think Cummings should have been sacked too, but I consider Ferrier's behaviour to be considerably poorer and reckless in comparison. Having felt sufficiently poorly to take a test, then while waiting for the result attend a hair salon, a church service, travel on public transport to London, attend the HoC, then get a confirmed test result and still choose to travel back home on public transport. Massively ignorant, at best, or displaying utter contempt and disregard for the wellbeing of all those that she chose to interact with?

    Hamster

That is dreadful news to hear. I enjoyed Hammy's posts and thought he was a thoroughly decent guy.
  5. Sums it up well. He is compelling viewing, an utter moron, but remarkably good entertainment value.
  6. The way i always reconciled myself to making structural changes and redundancies was that they were necessary changes in order to keep the business going, yes it is undoubtably rubbish and hugely stressful to be told that someone is taking your job away and there is no good way of doing that, but by making those changes you can keep the majority of people in a role and make sure that mortgages are paid. If you do nothing then you risk losing everything. It's the old adage that a smaller amount of something is better than 100% of nothing. There are of course plenty examples in the world where redundancies have been pushed through for much more cynical reasons, but in the main i have found it is something that companies approach with reluctance and responsibility.
  7. The first house i ever bought had 5 different layers of woodchip on one wall and what i’m sure was at least 142 layers of emulsion. Most of the other walls had just the one or sometimes 2 layers, but 5 different types on one wall. It was like the Himalayas. (It was also a no-fines built/poured house which brought a whole world of other hassles) An orbital scorer run over the wall first, then steamed, scraped and repeat over and over and over and over...............and over!!!
  8. I’d leave it as it is, no need to fill it in. However if you do want to add more detail then instead of solid colour go for dot work.
  9. Yep, now you would have to get a letter 45 days before advising that there was a risk of that and then it would happen anyway.
  10. Mass consultations are a nightmare to manage for the reason that you suggest, people start to feel insecure, the talent leaves and the less talented stay but productivity drops off. Shedding 900 jobs over two and a bit years in one facility highlighted that to me.
  11. I agree. I personally think Dom should have gone, but his actions are not comparable to hers, she is a level above and then some!
  12. The old Stanley planes were fantastic things. The 5 1/2 is an in between plane, is it a big smoothing plane or is it a jack/fore plane.
  13. My understanding is the whip has been removed from her, so she is now in essence an independent MP. Whether the SNP choose to permanently expel her from the party or not remains to be seen. In terms of her role as an MP it is now 100% her choice whether to step down and trigger a by-election. The SNP cannot kick her out her MP post, but the HoP standards committee could suspend her for 10 sitting days which would give the consituents a right to trigger a recall petition and force a by-election. It would be nice to see the standards committee take such an approach given that she travelled to attend parliament knowing full well from the guidance that she should have isolated prior to the test result, in essence reckless conduct towards the house and it's members. Travelling after the positive result is a breach of the law in England.
  14. It's ridiculous that we should even have to consider whether a scenario like that could be possible with the POTUS, but sadly we very much do have to believe it is possible. My first reaction on hearing the news was that is a manufactured situation to garner a bit ot patriotic spirit and folk rallying around the president, but for him to be able to work throughout without issue and emerge saying "I told you so". Without wishing ill health on anyone I do hope the news is genuine.
  15. It makes all the difference to turn a good space into a useable one. A beer fridge getting installed too?
  16. Looks excellent Django, the hidden door is really effective too. A great useable space from what I imagine was otherwise wasted ground.
  17. It is alarming just how quickly so many readily adopt an attitude of being the secret police and telling tales on friends, neighbours and colleagues. Setting aside whether this virus is as deadly scary as some believe or not, it proves that with the right stimulus that people will happily turn on others. This is the most insidious and scary thing for me and it feels like the absolute vast majority are blind to it too.
  18. It's a really interesting question. There is obviously some difference in socio-cultural approach, maybe they're friendlier up north and interact more, maybe the south is so expensive that nobody can afford to go out and so live in their own bubble more often, maybe they are just a bit more anti-establishment and deciding not to follow any rules. I can't imagine there will be one single reason for it, but a factor of many things. It's a little like the central west of Scotland having the highest prevelance, in that case there is also a greater population densisty so the numbers should be higher, but per-capita the ratio of infection is hgher too. It is all very puzzling.
  19. Sometimes it is like that and you hardly feel anything, just a bit scratchy. Good on you for getting it done too. That particular tattoo is one that has to be earned and not just inked.
  20. I expect that did feel a bit scratchy at times. I like it, had to be careful to not look directly lest i was turned to stone!
  21. Absolutely Dave, people should always be free to make a choice based on their value system. As i said previously some like tattoos and some don't and that is absolutely fine. Why do some have great ink work that they can't look at directly? Because it is for them to know it is there and maybe to show to others. I genuinely do not care what people might think of my tatt's or me for having them, if people want to judge me they can crack on as it makes zero difference to me. If there was a prejudicial outcome to me from that then I may care, it really would depend on what that outcome was. I think that there is, broadly, an acceptance that the nature of any tattoo may preclude certain types of employment or provoke an unfavourable reaction in someone else, we live in a judgemental society after all. I think that we are moving on however and in general the attitude to tattoos is much more liberal than it used to be, they were once the preserve of either sailors or criminals in the minds of some. We also used to be very judgemental about blacks and immigrants, 'no dogs, no blacks, no irish' being famously referenced in the late 50's and 60's. Thankfully we have moved on from that too... or then again 🤔
  22. Can you make a trammel bar for the jig saw, or use the piece of string. Although the router will give a very nice edge on your lid it will also remove a fair bit of waste in the kerf. If you followed the same principle with the jigsaw, but cant the blade over to 30' or so (away from the centre) then the lid cant fall back through. Or, of course, just turn it upside down as Flyboy said. Everyone has those moments where they make the apparently simple way more difficult than reason would suggest, i suspect that you get it right way more often than you get it wrong.
  23. I found that the closer to the back of the knee the more uncomfortable it was, but generally i didn't find my calfs to be any worse. Everyone is different though. I spoke to a lass who had steampunk style hinges tattooed behind her knees, very cool tatt's actually, i complimented her on being able to take that, as I really don't think i could, and she thought they were easy compared to her back. One thing I have found is that if i am cold or tired then I defo feel the burn that bit more. True that Dave, it shows great strength of character to admit to your failings and accept when you're wrong. Well done on showing great strength of character
  24. That's all that matters. Welcome to PW too. You'll have gathered that sometimes there are people who need to learn better manners who post here, but most are good sorts.
