If pipe is not connected and no gas in it you don't need to cap it . If pipe is " live" it is illegal to touch it unless you are gas safe registered.

Personally I would stick to 3 brands - Baxi, Worcester- Bosch and Vaillant. all of them have very good after sale service, spare parts availability. Baxi- british made, simple , not expensive , reliable and best guarantees - 7 or 10 yeras. Bosch medium price, 5 years guarantee, reliable and well known. Vaillant- top boilers, epxensive, very reliable but guarantee usually 2 years. I pressume your old one was non condensing. New one will need a condensate pipe which sometimes is pain in.. to install. Definitely get a magnetic filter installed with new one boiler !!

evolution380 - yes and no. I applied in may 2016 and went to GP in June and got stuck. They kept refuse to answer ( scotland) so I was waiting and trying... Finally in mid of december I found one GP. But he indicated tha I have limited sight in one eye and any further examination might be needed. Letter been sent. After 3,5 months I realised that something is wrong. Phoned the Licensing Department and ask. They told me that..... they are waiting for a letter from my ophthalmologist that I'm ok to shoot ! But nobody told me that ! I mentioned about it and guy said- I can apologise for that , when you bring us that letter we'll proceed. Nice. So i registered for a visit. I've waited 3 weeks. Then waited antoher 5 weeks to get letter. Then I got call from licensing that I need to provide referee again because it was too long and .. here we are. Applied 30 may and been granted 5 July. I have just 1 advice for those who are waiting- phone licensing department once a week !!

Hi to all. New to here. Mr. smith is right. Exactly they do. I've applied for my SGC (grant) on 29 may 2016. Everything was going OK and quickly. FEO visited me after 2 weeks , checked everything he needed. Told me he is happy . Then they asked my GP and everything stucked. GP refused to give them any details. I've tried to speak with surgery manager and my GP and every time the same answer- they don't want to take responsibility and don't do such opinions/examinations. I went to other surgeries and got the same answers. Anyway my application stuck completely and I have no idea what to do. I live in Scotland.
