  1. They work fine....... In fact before gamebore mammoths changed I preferred them! Then Gamebore tweaked the mammoths..... used them a lot since and RC and eley lightening. Gamebore still come out on top for shot size availability, price and consistency for me...
  2. Tell me about it!........ didn't get off the field til 7.30 stopped shooting 5/5.30! Sometimes it's handy to have another pair of hands! Lol
  3. The banter would be top notch though! ; )...... It has been a rare few outings mate! It's not the norm I know! My 'expectations' haven't changed! Thinking back you and I or you, I and muncher have never had a bad day yet!
  4. After my last write up and being out of the country for a week, I expected to find the barley cut and birds spread out over several farms...... What I actually found was more laid barley! It hadn't been cut! Taking the dogs for a mooch after work revealed birds still working the fields, although slightly less than before. I couldn't return until couple days later, taking a day off I set up where I had previous, just one bird on ff5. Slow start but managed 27 for 32 carts to start so I still had hopes. Then the Flightline strengthened but they showed no interest in my now magnet, cradles and flapper combo, heading to a field over behind. Jumping in the truck I set off to place a banger rope to discover three strong flight lines and birds down feeding hard. Placing banger out I head back, but same scenario. It hadn't caused them to drift back.... Packed up and set up on corner of the other field, with grass adjacent, trying to 'draw' them over the grass. 1-5pm I shot 321, frantic shooting in hot weather! A fantastic afternoon and a rare day to remember! Fields being cut now, just hoping still plenty for the stubbles! ......and just to show it doesn't always go to plan ..... Went out with my grandfather on his perm ( help him setup and ferry kit out for him) we got 39! But the birds have 7 wheat fields in a circle with roost wood in the middle! Ha ha... if you moved them off one, down onto the other side and Flightline changes...
  5. Think I need to read up on pics/posting! I have got a pic, but video of the field prior to shooting is like a snow storm! Ha ha
  6. I rarely post my exploits apart from the odd fowling one with other members etc.... however Motty urged me to share so here it is!.... I have been fortunate to share some great shooting with Motty, muncher and farma geddon but this day was to be by myself on laid barley on my own perm where sadly I cannot take guests. I had been to view a field I knew was holding birds, but only to monitor( sun) and was shocked by the numbers hitting the field. Trouble was lots of it 'laid' over enough for pigeon but not flat enough for picking up etc....what to do!?... the farmer was concerned with the number attacking the field so I took the day off and promised to make some in roads... The following day saw me set up early and bagging off the unsuitable areas of laid near footpaths and concentrating on an area with some short maize behind. I hoped to be able to drop/draw some pigeon over this for easy retrieval, setting a single ff5 flapper and bird in the nearby tramline of barley. I had been shooting my o/u perazzi well previously however trying to shoot from a low hide sitting down was proving tricky! Several pigeon escaped and a switch to the lighter auto with quicker handling suited this situation better which started to improve the poor cart to kill ratio at the start. The day had started very quietly and I began to think I had got it wrong.... the wind was perfect and not too hot in my exposed hide and they had been here yesterday??... then they came.... first 3's and 4's then 10's and then massive bunches from 3 different directions sometimes appearing high before dropping with confidence. I managed to place a magnet one side of me 25yds and the flapper the same the other, with birds angling between the two, I used no other decoys. 2's and occasionally the odd 'mctriple' fell into the barley which steadily upped the bag. 150 carts down by 1.45pm and I had not started until 11.45..... grabbed the 250 slab .... they were expired before 3pm which saw me asking people to deliver some more ammo! No good!and no gunshop open in easy distance. The emergency bag of 50 carts was grabbed from the truck and I shot very conservatively with my remaining. I had to be away the following day, so decided it had to be called a day with pigeon still very busy at 4pm. The pick up took some time and I had to be very careful with his crop. unfortunately I could not retrieve all from the standing but did my best however to shoot over the lay or behind resulting in 226 picked and a happier farmer! What an exceptional day! A rookie mistake but it was enough sport for me and a job done for the farmer.
  7. Used twice. So superb condition, no dirt, chips or scuffs 10x decoys and fibreglass poles. £55 collected Surrey
  8. 3 hrs to the wash. 2.15hrs to the Ouse washes..... 1.30hrs to Kent marshes........ And Im out every week
  9. I'm seriously shocked at some peoples 'methods' of dispatch! .......I didn't realise it was such an issue in the shooting community, I was taught from a very young age. Best, simplest method for all birds, light grip between thumb and fore finger, twirl it using body weight of bird in a sharp tight circle, you will feel it 'give' press fingers between vertebrae to check. With goose, imagine you are cranking a turn handle on an old car! Two sharp flips of the bird and tug back against body weight as it is falling will break cleanly.... It needs to be fast, efficient and simple to reduce suffering
  10. 12 will never match a ten...... with steel it can come close, but it can't match its performance
  11. ? A 'square' load should always pattern better than an overloaded cartridge. However steel is not as affected by this as lead etc...... 3" steel game bore with correct pellet size are more than adequate at 40-50 yards. If you need bigger shot or more range you need the 3.5" case ( pattern)or hw/power shot. I haven't shot the latest gamebore 3.5" but a friend was using 42gram 3's on flighting wigeon with great results
  12. For sale as new, 50 carts fired, found a choke which suits my needs better, so this is surplus to requirements £80 inc postage, grab a bargain
  13. Nice one Richard! Glad to see your out enjoying it and obviously shooting well 👍 Enjoy your posts
  14. It has nothing to do with americanisms..... it's money for the guide. Most want a team of 6 ideally. It is their business at end of the day and a couple of mates are guides. However 4 is the perfect number for me 👌
  15. Was a great day mate, plenty of craic, some good shots and lots of birds! Motty was a very generous host for the day and had us set up in a prime spot, , looking forward to a flight out on the geese soon with you
  16. Guys...... the blurb is a lot of rubbish! This style of choke does work, but best with hard, non toxic shot for tight patterns utilising plastic wads. If you want an 'all around' or decoy choke use standard stock tubes
  17. Cheers! Hadn't seen that 👍
  18. Hi guys, i have done a fair bit of loading for 10's and 12's, but if I were to load nitro powder for a 4 bore, does anyone have any experience??? And or data??Also can the proof house test 4 bore ammo??? I'm looking into it and weighing up my options, any help/ guidance would be much appreciated!
  19. Right well guess what...... I have one to test out. Have used a wad wizard ( same system) before and that worked..... but only with plastic wads and steel or hevi shot. Lead loads you honestly couldn't tell the difference. These stripper chokes offer the opportunity to produce tight patterns with less constriction. Which in certain barrels/chokes could be a huge advantage 👍
  20. It is free but under permit 👍 It is free but under permit 👍
  21. Vinchi will rust in front your eyes..... Sbe2 great to strip and clean with full access to trigger mech bolt house without stripping trigger groups etc.... Only downfall I found was spring wear. The inertia system relies on springs working in time and of the correct power/compression. If this is out cycle issues will occur. Mine was amazing for 7 years fowling then gave me trouble. But figured it was time for a new one 😊 I heard horror stories about A400's with 3.5" etc.... Well I bit the bullet and bought a lh a400 xtreme after waiting forever for a lh versa max which never came! Wasn't particularly keen on handling after sbe2, but A400 copes well with the marsh condition, easy to clean for a gas gun. Very soft to shoot and touch wood no issue with ANY cartridge length, only 21gram which I just had to try 😆 the only issue I have had is the thin chokes! They are not as robust as the inv+ rem choke or old optima. Mine now has aftermarket tubes..... However they do pattern very sweet
  22. Cheers Jim! If anyone else has data I'm still interested. The more info the better idea on how this powder works for certain loads / rise in pressure etc..... Not as forgiving or as much data as the 381 loads!
  23. Evening lads, too eek out my supply of 381 and STEEL, got some ssb150+ powder, for duck loads. Anyone got some good data for 3" duck loads?? 32-36gram?? Pref Ched hulls with bp wads or lbcs? Cheers all 👍

  25. Cartridges sound good, tell your friend to stick to half, modified choke (3 notches) for now, and keep ranges sensible, as Boyd said on another thread birds usually look closer on the marsh with few reference points etc.... If you get bitten by the bug and want to improve your guns performance then would be the time to try chokes and cartridges. Just my opinion. Good luck
