  1. I have worked with BB a lot and his Steed has always kept up on the motorways and muddy fields and always starts in the morning, if they are in your price range why not give them a try! I would of had one but they couldn't do contract hire 2 yrs ago, so went for an Isuzu D max, bit more expensive but good bit of kit, pulled a 120k range rover out of a ditch with it in muddy field in January so chuffed to bits with mine. As BB is with his no doubt. Rolls Royce and Purdeys go wrong too! Flycoy
  2. Intro to Pigeon Shooting course on the 7th May has some places if anybody needs a help getting started. PM me and I will get you in touch with the booking dept. Stay Safe Flycoy
  3. Hi all, As we all know, the woodie is our most challenging of quarry and we owe it respect, killing it quickly and cleanly. would respectfully suggest patterning your guns to see which size, load and choke performs the best at a given range. we should be looking at 147 ish pellets in a 30 inch circle to cleanly kill a pigeon, so well over 50% of the load in a 5. we might drop a 60 yarder with one pellet in the right place but how many birds take the shot and expire a long time after. had pattern plates on show at the BSS they got a lot of interest and discussion. well worth doing if you've got the space to do it. 4. Daystate177 hi, the course is; classroom in the morning with powerpoint, law, quarry id, safety, decoy patterns, etc. Gun fit and eye dom if we are running on time. after lunch, setting up a hide, decoys and shooting from a seated position with tips on lead and technique, then questions and good talk about pigeon shooting basically. Aimed at people new to the sport or those struggling to get to grips with the infamous Woodie! hope this helps Flycoy
  5. Chrissadler, I am running that one for Basc Central, should be a good day, look forward to meeting you there. hoping Bakerboy will make an Cameo appearance!! need a view on how pigeon shooting has developed since WW2 !!!!!! Flycoy
  6. Hi All just got in from 3 days at the BSS, got chance to meet a few of you from PW and chat with a good few keen shooters good to see a good turn out generally across the days. don't know how good the prices were, plenty of people carrying loads of pigeon gear in carrier bags! Flycoy
  7. Next 3 Saturdays on Charity Roost shoot Rugby! Flycoy
  8. if you run a shoot or enjoy your game shooting this course is for you, you would be surprised with what you will learn. give it a go and book in, might see you there!! Flycoy
  9. Terry will sort you out I am sure, he will help you pattern your gun for choke and point of aim, help you set up right so your birds are in a good killing zone. far more than you could do on a clay ground. just don't let him bring HIS gun!!!! Flycoy
  10. Polester, I wouldn't coach a pregnant client as mentioned above, the noise and body shock is too much in my opinion. wish you both all the best! Flycoy
  11. Crowman Alfie was a good lad to coach as he listened to instruction well and was brave enough to attempt a major change over to his left shoulder. eye dominance is a vital part of shotgun shooting, he will improve more each time he shoots. wish you both the best and will help again when needed Flycoy
  12. Have you tried "The Method" when shooting crossing clays or Game, works well for most targets. Flycoy.
  13. Hi All, Good advice on walking off birds on nearby fields if poss, agree that flight line shooting birds on their way to and from to the roosting woods may be better, especially on rape! If you have the wood on permission get in there after the pheasant season finishes, around 2pm early enough to have a look around for signs of pigeon p..!. when you find a well used tree, get yourself tucked under a tree within gun shot range and with the wind at your back, some decent cartridges and preferably some thing to blend you in to the background and away you go. you cant beat it for sporting shots if the wind is up. flycoy
  14. sounds like PC has the right idea! big and bright have used small flags on many occasions, they seem to work best on laid cereal patches in the summer, think its because they are concentrated in smaller areas the white puts birds off landing there and they circle for a tempting patch without the flag, Yours hopefully!! good way of putting them off unshootable patches near roads etc. not sure they will work in your situation. if you are worried about upsetting the farmer watch the telephone wires, a pellet wedge in between the strands will rot the cable and break it, sometime in the future, the connectors on the poles don't like lead either! Best of luck Flycoy
  15. The crowman,I can help with your lad , am a basc coach and from your area, involved in a lot of Young Shot days. Good to read you are starting him off with a lesson. I coach at Kibworth not too far away and they have dedicated coaching stands so he wont feel pressure from any body waiting to shoot. Let me know if I can help. Flycoy
  16. Hi wingy88Thanks for the welcome, As I said forms available from the gun shop, fill in and return , then they send your first location back to you. You get a location to meet a marshall, could be anything from a 1 man to 6man sized wood, so you could be on your own or with others. Start time is 2pm till dark, then return your pigeon to Barby shooting ground before 7pm and get next weeks location, have a drink and listen to the guys excuses for a bad day! Good crowd of shooters. Give it a go, ok for a novice as long as you are a safe shot and dont try to shoot birds with oxygen masks on! See you there Flycoy
  17. Hi Bakerboy the roost shoot is open to anyone, its a tenner a week and is usually the first 3 Saturdays in Feb, you can do 1, 2 or 3 weeks. not mega pigeon numbers, but if you get drawn in a good wood, you could get 20 odd. forms available from Rugby Gun shop, give them a ring on 017880575198 and they will post you a form, hurry up though entries close in a week or so. Around 60 shooters take part over about a 5 mile radius. hope this helps Flycoy
  18. Hi all on PW, Am based in Warwickshire, have been pigeon shooting for 25 years and run a PS syndicate for 20 shooters in the Warwick/ Coventry area. just filling in my application for a big charity roost shoot in feb in Rugby. Been reading the forums and you all seem passionate about your shooting, looking forward to some good discussions in the future! Shoot Straight and Stay Safe! Flycoy
