I normaly just use a 12g on driven days It's just the odd occasion i take another gauge to try out both gun and cartridges usually the last drive or two I still remeber when i was a youngster we used to visit my grandparents in a small town and i used to go round to the Shooting / fishing tackle shop to look round and buy some pellets or something On this one occasion i went and here was an sxs displayed in the window with both barrels bent round backwards and split Obviously the barrels had been blocked with soil or something when fired, but I never knew what happened to the user At the time i used to shoot my farthers 12g SXS hammer gun That thought still remains with me now some 40 odd years later

Hi snow white Regarding your original thread " quote lads if your usng two calibre guns unquote" You should remember that our better looking sex also shoot "Ladies" I sometimes change calibre on a shoot but i have the appropriate gear ie 12g gun 12g cartridge belt with 12g in cartridge bag And the same for 20g and for 16g I have heard of such mishaps but surely if you're fully aware of your equipment and surroundings one should be fully aware of what one is doing being a responsible sgc or fac then one should be fully aware of the fact No excuses allowed I have never heard of anyone loading a 223 into a 243 rifle or a .17hmr into a .22lr or vise versa or perhaps no one has admitted the fact Plus most calibre sizes are colour coded are they not ( perhaps not all brands )

We get two beaters at least days on the estate i beat on and shoot on Normally split into two teams walk one shoot one But last season there was a great turn out where some beaters will not or can not shoot and prefer to beat .So all us guns were standing most of the time So we have three pots in the beaters cabin one for the most shots fired highest wins One for the most birds shot nearest to total wins And one where all shooters puts £10 to pay the beaters that do not shoot It works well and we have great days with the banter flowing most bring food and drink Two seasons back we had three days lined up But a team of shooters decided to take an extra day so we beat all day for them and they managed an 80 bird day We went out next day on beaters day and shot 100 birds The next day we shot 250 birds Not bad for an end of season shoot Walking one shooting one Plus the estate owner joins in the beating team also brought a bottle of port but had to go home for another Great bunch of blokes Some of us are invited to the owners family day where i work the dogs but can shoot too. Beaters get paid but us with guns do it foc as we normally shoot more than the family Happy days enjoyed by all and that is what it is all about -

Some valid points above and politeness costs nothing but can pay huge dividends All guns should point out where their shot birds are and normaly do or when asked When beating i always ask the guns if they've had a good day and they're always polite and thankyou for a good day normaly but there are times when certain guns will not speak to beaters What people have to or should remember is that without the beaters you do not have a shoot In answer to the initial question I would've had a quiet word with the keeper This could be addressed at the pre shoot do's and do'nts of the day and politely say to the guns if they could help the team by saying how many birds they shot and roughly where they landed along with kindly pick your empties up and so on -
The 16g was and is primarily a game gun and there;s ample choice of game loads although Hull have some clay carts But the main stream of clay shooters use 12g and some 20g so the cartridge companies follow this trend It would'nt be viable for them to bring out loads of 16g clay loads Hull do a 24gramme 16g fibre 7.5 67mm home loads would be an option

Well been to see George this morning and purchased 1000 32g fibre copper so hope to try them out soon Thanks George S -
Second that We always pick our empties on shoots even on walked up days the empties are in my pocket Although i've been on some shoots and certain stands are littered with empties from previous shoot days even though the keeper requests that all emties be picked up What should be addressed is the plastic cup wads that are littered all over the land and waterways which cannot be picked up vey easily which only adds fuel for the anti's I use fibre wad cartridges all the time and have done for years and with the technology and ballistics available now there should be no reason to use these platic cups

No one is being derogative about the medalist itself But the way they are being advertised and dealers playing on the Browning name William Powell have their Continental range B Rizinni make the O/U Italian Arietta make the SxS Spanish William Powell enscribe their name on them but do not hide the fact by calling them their Continetal range But if you were to believe Brownings references then all Brownings are made in Belgium Not

It's good practice swing the gun keeping your eye in, in the close season But a clay does not mimmick live birds that change direction in flight plus they're accelerating not slowing down Pigeon shooting is by far better practice

Interesting thread Fashions come and go then return ie music dress sense house designs and so on For years the 16g was well out of fashion and nearly extinct along with the dinasaurs Now look what's happening There is a big reasurgance of the 16g along with the cartridge companies following on and Browning flooding the market with their new B525 16g and other companies following on and more companies will bring their models out very shortly ( just keep an eye on Beretta ) I think it was Braithewaites Mid last year that quoted that nearly all guns sold in thier first six months of trading were nearly all 16g shotguns The sxs will make a similar comeback in the future when all these new o/u advocates suddenly think their guns are getting heavier and heavier and all look similar to the gun next to them on either side and decide they want something different like a nice English style gun that does'nt weigh like an anchor and looks stylish and traditional like their forfathers used to use and something they were brought up with as a kid shooting with their dad or grandad as i was I myself sold my last two sxs in the last year to concentrate on my o/u shooting as i kept reverting to my sxs's I use a 16g o/u amonst other o/u but am now looking at english 16g sxs's as it's inherent in me and cannot get it out of my system Another observation i have come aware of is these new kids on the block Although nice to see young kids entering the shooting scene But they have been on coached clay shoots ( paid for by dad or grandad and are on the short list for the olympics ) come to driven days full of **** on how good they are and go on to suggest they will wipe ones eyes and are not open to advice then fall flat on their **** Shooting clay discs does not make one a good shot on live game as has been proved out on the field time and time again

Anything untoward that may happen then it will backlash onto the keeper as acting as a referee I was talking to a keeper in Scotland on one of our shoot days and this cropped up in conversation whereby he had signed persons applications as referee judging them as capable persons But one or two turned bad not sure if domestic or confrontation in public but he ended up with the police at his door late at night which he managed to sort out But he now says that is the finnish and will no longer endorse anyone and i would'nt care he is a lovely bloke and easy going and good at his job

Without checking i would say in the 70's Initially made by Zoli but then by FIAS better known as Sabatti all of Italy and bares no resemblance to John Moses Brown design They intially made alliance with Miroku of Japan in 1965 for them to produce mainstream Brownings so i would think it would be close after this for guns hitting the markets in the 70's to compete with the Spanish guns of AYA , Arrieta .Sarasqueta etc The early Zoli were over complicated and problematic so they went to FIAS / Sabbati Had they had gone to B Rizinni it might have been a different outcome as their guns may have been better then the Miroku Brownings and History may have been altered Who knows
-
Yes made in Belgium up to the 70s' then the mainstream from Miroku now Spain Portugal and the US although the expensive B2G's by FN Belgium And the medalist is a good starter gun which has proved itself but not a Browning
-
I also think 36g are on the heavy side for game birds but have seen guns using 36g for partridge 4's and 5's I blow charlies away with this sort of load The heaviest i use is 32g for the high birds 28g being the lightest load i use The heavies i have are for geese. charlies Copper plated lead
-
How true Made by FIAS as a entry level gun for Browning with the idea of Browning that the young shooter would progress onto a more expensive model made by Browning Which must've took some by suprise as the Medalist is a typical Italian action low and slim unlike the Brownings deep action and totaly different locking mechanism And rightly so should not be advertised as a Browning made in Belgium Then again Brownings should not technicaly be advertised as made in Belgium as they're made in the Miroku factory Japan

Malmo have 2 DT10 in second hand They would let you try them as they're used guns if that's any help Also a new DT11
-
I would contact Anglo Italia Arms and see what they can fix up for you regarding CG's
-
Do'nt think Malmo are dealing with Caesar Guerini They only have 10 second hand one's in They're importers of Redolfi shotguns now Dissapointing
-
Due to swinging them heavy guns around haha

So you have tried them then archi So you think nothing of them Just an over priced hyped up gimmic but might be an ol cartridge at £300 per thou The lads at my local supplier went out with a gun and some different cartridges to see how they patterned 30 yrds up to 50yrds and they found the hull high bird extreme patterned best at up to 50yrds not sure if they tried the copper long range -

I've used Georges carts before and they certainly perform Snipes And will go and see him and try these copper ones I would'nt care i just bought a slab of the Cheddite 32g fibre copper this morning ( not mention price in case George is watching haha ) to try as my supplier was saying that blokes were buying and using them and coming back for more so something is right about them He went on to say that they are dropping the lylevale express brand as there is no demand for them No one is buying them and i have to admit i have'nt bought any for years also have'nt bought gamebore in the last 8-9 years but still have some 20g pure gold which i like Sad to say i do'nt buy Eley either although i have some vip 16g bought a few years back which are ok but prefer rc 16g -

I may have misread the postage details -
Too true figgy nice to see a convert haha Especially as he has the chance to buy a more expensive Guerini for the same price as the 692 ( 692 is a plain jane ) at £3500 A year or two later and the guerini will be worth more than the 692 There's a 692 on GT with nice wood fired 1000 carts at £1695 so it's lost half it's money Compared to a 20g CG magnus used at £1850 which has lost about £450 from new price which is only the VAT content VAT being only charged once on a gun When it is new Beretta's for sale on GT =2782 compared to 541 CG's Every CG i have sold on i have made money on them so proves the point of second hand values The first new CG i bought was the magnus and i could sell that and not lose on it ( but i will not sell it ) Unless of course figgy makes me a nice ofer

So have you got it bought yet or your mate?
