    Garden birds

Hi there Doc hol, Have you tried moving your feeders position I am quite lucky get allsorts of birds coming to my feeders but I have them near cover so the birds can dive into safety when the sparrow hawk turns up, also with the fat balls I break them in half so there easier for the birds to get at the long tailed tits are great to watch on them when a family group turns up. I have tried the niger seed but nothing touched it, as others have said sunflower hearts general seed mix and occasionally nuts with suet blocks rolls and fat balls Mice!
  2. Thanks for the comments, I've heard of dogs not picking woodcock but don't know anything much about snipe, was just happy the pup found them Mice!

    Garden birds

Very funny, I quite often get two or three pairs in the garden but not for long one pair will always chase the others out
  4. I love the idea of coming back as a dog, so long as I get to hunt and have fun 😊 I was asking about the scent because people say and I have read that grouse have a strong scent but partridge have a very subtle one so was just wondering where snipe sit on the scale?? He stopped us last week on the lead went into stealth mode and yep a squirrel 25ft up the tree bloody amazing cant wait to shoot one for him
  5. Fella I know has or is switching to gps for his birds of prey but I have no idea about prices though very interesting
  6. Its been there all week looked really good the other day seemed huge, kids were really impressed when I told them it was another planet
  7. Hi all and happy new year, Quite funny I have been looking for land to train the dog on which isn't full of squirrels or other people and I ended back at my mums walking the dog on old coal mining land where I grew up but haven't been on in probably ten years. It had changed loads but was perfect for what I wanted and thankfully no motor bikes about, we had spent about 45mins to an hour mooching about following the dogs noise and the wind he was changing direction well to the whistle and working the ground really well all we needed was to find something and job done. We ended up by some water and scrubby cover when he changed direction paused and up popped two snipe, I've never seen them flushed like this, straight up vertical and then away really exciting, a few more got up and he started getting over excited so we headed away happy. Question what kind of scent do snipe give off strong or weak he was definitely working them and new they were there, made a great change from black birds pigeons and squirrels Mice!
  8. Hi Matty, I feed similar to you but biscuits in the morning and raw in the afternoon, if I left anything down the other dog would probably just eat it, I would say if there leaving food don't give them as much so they clear there bowls. Raw dog food is a good cheap book its very American but the veg gloop is great and its written in simple terms not all science Mice!

    Rabbits

Hi, have you thought about using cage traps? Having a few in the traps could even encourage the others to come back out when you drive up, have a brew in the motor couple of shots empty the traps and away you go? Mice 😁
  11. Hi Laird, this might help but could just be a fluke. My pup doesn't so much as pull as wants to be at the end of the lead to get where we are going quicker a quick check puts him back by my side but not for long. Couple of weeks ago he stepped over the lead so it was coming up under the arm pit I was going to move it but for some reason he stays better by my side with the lead there so been doing it deliberately on and off so he is where I want him without me having to do anything forcefully, then just changing direction lots as other people have said to you. Hope this helps
  12. Nice picture, looks like a happy dog and a good day out. Mice!
  13. Hi there hidenseek, been looking everywhere for you 😊

  15. Thanks Danger mouse, he looks the part just need to help him act the part I could probably do with a slap sometimes lakeside1000 the not loosing it when he doesn't do something is definitely a good shout Thanks for the comments plenty to work on. Mice!
  16. Hi walker570 and gaffertoo, Thanks for your comments nice to know other peoples dogs have been doing the same thing, I have noticed that he only tends to do the head between the legs thing if we are going slowly with the old dog or kids when its just me and him doesn't do it often. Leaving the gun at home isn't a problem I don't have one, unless you count my Rapid 7, planning on applying for my sgc in the new year. Definitely want the well-behaved dog you can be proud of, I'll post a pic of him when I figure out how. Thanks again Mice!
  17. Hi termin8r, That was what I was thinking he is a sensitive thug so didn't want to be stopping him doing something if I could use it to my advantage. He is my first Gsp, the old dog is a gwp I worked him for a few years but he was hunting before he was listening all my fault, so hoping to avoid that this time round. I don't have that book so will take a look for it Thanks Mice!
  18. Hi everyone thought I would say hi, been reading posts on the forum for a while now since getting my pup a now 9 month Gsp gog named Jet, pretty sure there will be lots of questions over the coming months Kev
  19. Hi everyone I have finally registered instead of just reading and enjoying, I have a couple(for now) of questions regarding my pup, 9 month gsp dog named Jet, two things he does when on the lead I want to know if I should be somehow be using them to my advantage or nipping them in the bud. The first is walking with his head between my legs will just do this sometimes when he is meant to be by my side, will happily walk along like this until I step off him? The second is playing with the lead, he tends to do this when excited or when we come off the grass back onto the path and he knows we are heading home, he prances by my side and I only stop him if he starts pulling too much on the lead. My old dog is 14 now so the difference between him plodding along and Jet whizzing by is quite a shock that's for sure. Look forward to hearing your suggestions Mice!
