  1. Sako 75 Finnlite 6.5x55. Thread cut 1/2 unf with machined end cap, new bolt shroud with no key concept, fluted bolt and badger ordnance tac bolt **** fitted, supplied with stainless optilock bases, low round count, excellent condition, load data availible, shoots awesome groups with 120 nosler BT's, £950 ono. Face 2 Face or RFD transfer, I'm based in London but do get around with work etc.. mod, scope and bipod not included. Thanks for looking Moses
  2. I'd love a double rifle, I have shot a few on a range and they're a lot of fun. If I had the money and could justify a use for it, I'd have one in a heart beat. There's a couple of good deals to be had on guntrader. Beretta gold sable 9.3x74 OU Blaser SbS in 30R Blaser (bit bigger than a 30-06) A bit more expensive than the bettinsoli but, you get what you pay for. ATB Moses
  3. Just curious but, if you could what will you fire it through? A hot 25cal will push an 85grain pill at about 3700 fps, have a look at a .257 weatherby mag. Atb Moses
  4. Here's the flattened stag CS; ATB
  5. Sounds like a perfect evening on the Roe bucks, well done.
  6. I'm sure you wont have any problems HD. I took this stag during the rut last year with my 6.5x55. I shot him quatering away in the top of the shoulder, he did a 360 and kicked up the dirt with his front leg and toppled over dead. Shot placement is everything, the biggest stag I ever saw was shot with a 243. The only thing you may struggle with is getting it back to the larder! ATB Moses
  7. I shot my first Red stag during the rut last year, exactly one year ago this weekend coming. It was a truly unforgettable experience and certainly got the adrenalin pumping. I've been invited back this weekend to try for another one so, fingers crossed. Good luck catching up with the switch, hopefully before he injures another beast. ATB Moses
  8. A chambered barrel would be illegal for you to posses unlesss you had an authority on your license. Check it with you're RFD but, I'm quite sure. Could you not buy a barrel blank instead and have it chambered here? ATB Moses
  9. If the barrel is a blank then technically it's just a piece of metal and not illegal to posses. If it's a chambered barrel then it's a firearms part and you would need an authority to posses it unless you are an RFD. ATB Moses
  10. You can shoot wild boar in Dorset, with west country games Paul Johnson. The shoting is from high seats during the full moon. PM me if you want his number or google the above. He's taken some big pigs from his patch! ATB Moses
  11. That guy runs Violas wildlife, they sell Muntjac stalking over Heathrow way. Prospective clients should form an orderly que; http://violaswildlife.blogspot.com/
  12. Any of the rifle makers you mention would do a good Job. Tikka, Sako, Sauer, Blaser, Remington. CZ etc.. It just depends on what budget you are working to and what kind of rifle you want i/e Syth or wood, tactical or classic etc... One thing is for sure; Buying a Blaser will not save you money! A new barrel for an R93 is around the £995 mark and a set of Blaser mounts are around £275-£300. A second hand .270 is not a bad idea, it's not the most fashionable of calibres so I dare say there will be quite a few around on the shelves. Look out for anything that looks like it's done a lot of work and have it borescoped to see what you are getting into. If you're interested in a S/H .270 Sako 75 Synth with a schmidt and bender 8x56, I know where there's a mint one at the right money. ATB Moses
  13. If you wanted a pure stalking rifle then a beautiful Sauer 202 avant garde with apel mounts and a nice swaro/zeiss/S&B fixed power scope would be very nice but, as I understand it your going to be mainly foxing/lamping. That means your gun will be getting bashed around in the truck/on the roof/out of the window etc. as such I would go for a stainless synthetic rifle that can handle a bit of work. RPA''s are very good rifles and I would not hestitate to buy one if you're not restrained to a budget, having said that they do have an offers section on their site which is worth keeping an eye on. ATB Moses
  14. The RPA's a great idea but, i'd go for the interceptor multi shot instead; http://www.rpainternational.co.uk/intercep...ishot_rifle.asp And I would put a Z6i on it, Zeiss is very good glass but I don't like the 2nd image plane rets as most of them are. ATB Moses
  15. If you don't already have a shotgun cert, go co-terminus and save some money. ATB Moses
  16. Congratulations Sounds like it couldn't have gone any better. I'm sure you'll enjoy eating it as much as the stalk; munties are truely delicious! ATB Moses
  17. Mcleods in Tain have an 85 stainless synth in 6.5x55 on the shelf, I'd go for that. http://www.rmacleod.co.uk/shooting.htm
  18. I have a 75 finnlite in 6.5x55 mine has a 19" barrel. It's a nice light rifle even with a mod and it doesn't feel overly top heavy, I always shoot off sticks or a rest of some kind if you were shooting a lot free hand you might notice it more. Without a mod and bipod on it it's very light as the short barrel is fluted and the magazine and bottom metal is aluminium. I would recommend the finnlite it's a nice rifle, I'm home loading 120grain noslers for mine at 2900 fps. I cant imagine you would have much of a problem with the 140grainers being legal north of the border the factory 85 synth stainless has a 22" barrel and the 85 finnlite 20" I'd be surprised if that cost you 100fps the 50 fps per inch is only a rule of thumb as it were. ATB Moses
  19. I have used this scope a few times, awesome bit of glass. Only thing that I thinks lets it down is the; field of view and the illumination device on/off and adjustment thats why I went for the Z6 instead. You certainly would not regret buying one Not til your credit card bill arrived anyway! ATB Moses
  20. Some interesting points raised here obviously peoples opinions vary considerably. I would say that Ackley has a point, head/neck shots have their place. Anyone who's been stalking in Co Wicklow would know that, those boys want head/neck shots everytime. Their reasoning for this is that the deer is either dead or missed. I personally would not say to an inexperienced stalker to take a head shot, the reason being that there are more than one type. The safest of which in my opinion would be the shot placed in the back of the head/top of the neck as you can only really kill the beast or miss copletely. The front on head shot can be tricky and it's safest to aim for the very top of the head just above the eyes or shoot lower in the neck, the danger here being the round can strike the animal in the snout and injure it badly. Another potential hazzard with a front on head shot is that the round exits and damages the carcass even if the beast is killed cleanly so, the positioning of the animal needs to be considered. The one with the least margin for error is the broadside head/neck shot here you could take the animals jaw off with the head shot or damage the oesophagus with a neck shot you really need to be able and confident of placing the bullet just behind the ear of the beast for a clean kill. This is one of those things that people will always disagree on and will continue to do so as more and more game dealers are imposing fines for beasts not shot in the head or neck and some refusing the carcass altogether. new .243

I have two Sako 75's one in .270 and another in 6.5x55, I have Swarovski Z6i 2-12x50 scopes on both of them. The 85's are a good gun but, I prefer my 75 especially the stock. There's a cracking 75 243 on guntrader in a Mcmillan sako 75 stock, screw cut for just over a grand. If it was my money I'd buy that and stick a 2.5-15x56 Z6 or Z6i ballistic turret on it, have it bedded later on and you've got an awesome set up! I do however echo Stuartp's words about optics have a look through as many as possible. The nightforce you mentioned is a cracking scope but, you may be paying for features you're not likley to take full advantage of. ATB Moses

    new .243

Laminate stocks are heavy but, if you get the 85 hunter stainiess and not the varmint it weighs in at 7-1/4lb which is fine. The varmint is the heavy one at 8-5/8lb. Personally I would go for the finnlight, I have the 75 finnlite and love it. A good mate of mine has the 85 stainless and it's been an awesome rifle for him, with homeloaded ammo shoots one hole groups and not far off that with factory stuff. Nightforce make great long range scopes but, it would'nt be my first choice for stalking and midrange fox shooting. I would have a look at what the Germans have to offer, don't forget that a new NXS will now set you back over £1400 and they aint half big and heavy. If you do go for the NXS the 5.5-22x56 would be the way to go and I would opt for the NP2DD ret. ATB Moses
