  1. I looked at both the S200 and the S400 when I was in the market for a PCP. My wife decided to buy it for me, grand lass, but when I showed her the S200 her first remark was 'I don't like THAT!' It was , of course, the two piece stock. I had to agree but I didn't want her spending too much However when I showed her the S400 she said 'That's a lot better!' and duly stumped up the cash for gun, scope, case, silencer and bipod. She even asked me if I was happy with the Beech stock as she didn't want me moaning about how I wish I had ordered the Walnut one afterwards. The moral being - it's all about how you perceive your choice - would you wish you had chosen the other option you were looking at even though they are both as accurate as each other. In my case I HAD no choice, after all I don't want to upset my missus!
  2. Unfortunately video and record producers cannot get their heads round the 'stack 'em high and sell 'em cheap' ethos. It's the same with numerous visitor atractions; they see a slump in profits and they all think the solution is to raise the price, admission fee etc., whereas the opposite is often the far better solution. Drop the price, give the customer a good time for good value and the profit is made in repeats and volume turnover. If DVD's and CD's represented value for money far more people would buy originals for their collections. Youngsters used to collect records but they have now been priced out due to pure greed and lack of foresight. The mantra of 'give the customer what he wants at value for money' has been long lost and mores the pity.
  3. Done Now 188 votes and well ahead!
  4. I've seen a number of variations on the same theme and neither an antivirus program or spyware removal will solve the problem. This is basically because it is neither a virus nor a spyware but simple a popup with a link embedded into your system. It does no harm but is extremely annoying and possibly illegal for there was nothing wrong with your computer before this blatent selling scam insinuated itself into the sytem. The advice to google the actual mesage is spot on and you will find a solution within one of the software forums somwhere as someone else has laso suffered the same problem. I did that for mine and my friends but they are all different. Persevere and you will find the solution. If not, I did a reinstall of my system file the first time and that sorted it. I do use Firefox and an antivirus protection with firewall, plus Windows Defender but this does not prevent the problem arising. As soon as you are conned into the link the program is installed and has to be taken out by hand. I was given the same advice as I have just posted by the software forums, there is no method of automated removal (Spybot seemed to have removed mine until about the 2nd or third reboot and there it was again). I certainly spent a long time looking for one that worked without any luck, though they all professed to be able to do it. Just follow any instructions you are given via the forum you find it on and all will be well but if you do not feel confident editing the Registry, find a friend who is.
  5. Amateur I have shot an XS78 for quite a while and I zero mine at 30 yds. However, your zero on a cool day is not the same as on a warm day as CO2 pressure is subject to fluctuation with the temperature. It isn't possible to fit a pressure gauge on the standard gun without modifying the CO2 reservoir cap but it can be done by drilling the block for a CO2 throughway and drilling and tapping for the gauge where the current cross-head screw is. My pressure gauge is on my MaxZbulk adapter so I just relaced the cap with the adapter. The gauge is a pretty fair indicator of the guns performance and with experience you learn to allow for CO2 pressure much the same as you would allow for windage and distance. Similarly if you have an SMK scope I have found that the POI can alter with extreme of temp especially extreme heat. XS78 tends to a little low on power out of the box and I wouldn't be surprised if your gun shoots as low as 7ft/lbs. The nearer you can get it to the 10.5ft/lbs mark the more consistent it will be. The outfit you have is fit for purpose within those limitations and I have to admit I do have an inordinate amount of fun shooting mine but I do tend to right-off the first couple of shots of a session, and mine shoots at 11.3ft/lbs plus, until I know just how the gun is reacting to the days climate. It all comes good the more you shoot it. Steve
  6. You are unlikely to have a means sensitive enough to weigh a single or even a small number of pellets. I suggest you take perhaps 100 of each or indeed a whole tin of each (excluding the tin) and compare them that way using kitchen scales which should clarify the situation for you. Steve
  7. More interesting than you realise!

This a copy of my post on the subject from the Airgun Forum. It might help clarify matters. ------------------------------- Just to clarify a point here just in case anyone tries to get a 19mm 'O' ring for the valve. It is 19.18mm O.D but 'O' rings are measured by I.D. and thickness and the correct size is BS#113 13.94 x 2.62 (as specified on the Charlie Da Tuna full tuning guide of June 17, 2004 [Revised Feb. 4, 2005]) and confirmed by my own Vernier measurements. The Charlie Da Tuna site says don't use NBR but the advice I have been given by two 'O' ring suppliers in this country is that NBR is perfectly OK as long as it is coated with Silicone Grease and that is borne out by my experience of them and that of Portland Jon as indicated in one of his posts. The EPDM material supplied in the Archer kit isn't strictly necessary and in some applications may be the wrong one. This an extract from the email from one of the company's - "Good afternoon Steven, I dealt with your enquiry when it reached our technical department and was the one who suggested Nitrile as opposed to EPDM. EPDM has a high permeation rate when used in carbon dioxide systems and can swell which can cause early failure. EPDM is rated as suitable for a static application but a nitrile material would offer improved performance over an EPDM so I asked for you to be quoted for our PB80 material. " NBR certainly hasn't caused me any problems at all. Viton was suggested to me by another company previously and at that time I did purchase them on their advice. That turned out to be incorrect as the rest of the email below will show - "Viton can also suffer with the permeation from carbon dioxide in systems with CO2 content of more than 15% (which can cause swelling and physical property changes)." Below is the spec of the NBR 'O' rings - Material Specification (NBR) Testing Parameters Hardness 70º Shore 'A' DIN 53505 Temperature Range -30ºC to +120ºC Avoid prolonged use at higher temperature Tensile Strength 15 N/mm² DIN 53504 Elongation At Break 340% DIN 53504 Low Temperature Brittleness -30ºC ASTM D 1329 Compression Set 9% DIN 53517B

Do NOT buy Viton. Stick to NBR and coat in Silicone Grease is the advice from the O ring manufacturers. That is presuming you are using them on a CO2 gun. If you PM me with your needs I should be able to sort you out. Getting to be a regular thing this but with minimum orders from the suppliers it makes sense for just one of us to buy them.

    Tax

The best accountant is always one recommended by someone who actually uses them and is satisfied with their service. For anyone who is VAT registered I wouldn't even contemplate goping it alone. My daughters accountant has always saved her more than she has paid him.
  11. Done! Unusual for me.
  12. Overtaking the whole cortege is NOWHERE near as bad as tucking in behind the hearse and in front of the 1st family car. YES, I have seen it done and NO they didn't give a toss. After all, it was Salford!

    barry george

What I would like to know and it isn't just about this particular case is; time and time again the Police have circumstantial evidence that may convict a person but at the same time they have evidence that proves their innocence. This evidence is time after time supressed and never passed over to the defence. What gives gives these officers the right to play God and break the law. It makes them liars, immoral, and have no place in the legal system but what happens to them. ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!! It seems to be more about the need for a conviction the relieve the pressure (the BBC played a big part in this case) and not finding the guilty party. My wife says, bless her, the Police must think he's guilty or they wouldn't have charged him. Naive I know, we had the same argument about the Sally Clarke case and her being convicted on a statistic and not evidence (another case where some medical evidence was suppressed). My point is just how many people on a jury think the same way and actually believe all the hype that's put in front of them without reservation (the CSI effect). They interviewed one of the original jurors in the Barry George case last night and she was adamant that the evidence wasn't enough to convict him and stood by her assessment. How right she was and probably the only deep thinker on the Jury. I wonder how the other eleven feel now? I can imagine the scene in the jury room with the eleven thinking she's a trouble making idiot and just wanting get it over and done with and go home. Those eleven are the one's to blame as it all hung on their vastly flawed 'assessment'. On another day Barry George would have been unanimously acquitted. So where do we go from here? The jury system obviously isn't working and the public would mistrust a bench of legal experts due to the fact that they may be subject to undue influence. Any ideas? Juror interviews to assess the individuals capability of making a rational and informed assessment and not just any person on the electoral roll? There are great many people I can think of who are just not capable of sitting on a jury and coming to a rational decision having listened to some of the absolute drivel I've heard them come out with.
  14. It is quite likely that one of the lenses has been dislodged and may be loose affecting the parallax. Similarly the crosshairs may now be loose. It is possible to dis-assemble them but if it's gas-filled you are going to have problems anyway. The best suggestion is as has been mentioned would be to have a word with Bushnell Customer Services.
  15. Go into Explorer and click on the Tools menu. Choose folder options and the choose the option View and the choose View/ show Hidden Folders and Files. If that doesn't work it's possible that you have picked up something off t'internet that has installed these folders. You will need to CTRL+Alt+Del and check if any iffy processes are running. Anything you're not sure about, Google it and find out what it is and what it does. You need to stop any of these processes in turn and see what effect, if any, they have on your system. If none, try deleting the folders and files after stopping each process. Best of luck.
  16. I'm not sure what you mean. System Restore will just roll back the installation to any particular point you choose and will not affect anything as regards documents only software installed after the restore date. However if you mean you are going to reinstall the operating system using the Windows CD it will not delete any documents but it will affect your email addresses and emails and you may well have to reinstall some of the software. Make sure you make copies of any emails you wish to keep and export your address book to another section of your hard drive or external media. Email addresses are the one thing we all seem to forget about!
  17. I doubt any premiership teams gonna want him. He's a liability and real bad press. Apparently Keegan says he still has a future with the club. AS WHAT??
  18. As an ex fire officer I was always dubious about commercial premise fires at that time of the morning but hey stranger things have happened. I believe it started in the area of some deep fat fryers. Deep fat fryers at 7.00am??? Besides which I personally have never attended a fire involving one. Unlike chip pans they are generally thermostically controlled. If they had been left on overight and the thermostat failed they are unlikely to receive an insurance payout as leaving them on would contravene the 'all reasonable precautions' clause in the policy. A bit like leaving your car parked with the keys in the ignition. It may well have been an electrical overload though the same caveat wil apply if they were left on overnight. Only time and forensic investigation will tell.
  19. To a certain extent I can understand the no smoking in the vehicle. I used to do agency driving part-time and for a non-smoker to get into a stinking cab, knee deep in ash and cigarette ends it's appalling. Smoking in pubs stopped myself and my wife from going out for many years as we are both asthmatic. We are now rediscovering a social life long lost and to be quite honest most of the landlords I've spoken too may have had initial misgivings about the ban but they are now long gone. Customers stay longer and they are seeing a lot of new customers. It's right that bar staff should not have to put up with cigarette smoke imposed on them whilst they are working too. As for not smoking in someone's house well that was always a matter of courtesy, a courtesy that should extend both ways to be absolutely fair.

    Liz Jones...

My comments in reply to the article - Your dog was off it's lead in the countryside and you are surprised it killed a lamb. Then you seek to justify that by saying to yourself that it would have been slaughtered anyway. Are you for real??? You should be ashamed of yourself and the dog should now be destroyed because of your stupid actions. You had no right letting it off the lead anyway and especially in lambing season. 'It would have been slaughtered any way'. Well we're all going to die eventually anyway so why bother trying to solve murders. Just why does your editor put up with your inane and ridiculous ramblings. I suggest you return to the city where your manner would best be suited to those who think so much of themselves and leave the countryside to those who understand and respect it. I'm not holding my breath for it to be printed as it say there has been ZERO comments made so far!! Strange that.

    RNLI

The RNLI insists on keeping to private funding to maintain it's independence from interfering government who may well want to 'modernise' it just like the Coast Guard, the Fire Service etc. They are being 'modernised' so much that efficiency is no longer a word that applies to what were too brilliantly performing services and the envy of the world. Never has the word 'modernise' has such connotations. As for the RNLI 'wasting' their funds for want of a better word; the money was given willingly with no conditions. It isn't public money and they do with it as they see fit within the guidelines as applies to the Charity Commission. Those that don't wish to donate have no need to do so, therefore I just cannot see any 'issue' here. The RNLI wouldn't take funding from the Government if it was handed on a plate and I for one don't blame them. If it ain't broke then don't fix it!
  22. I've been burgled twice over the years even though I have a pukka alarm system but since I have installed very prominent CCTV (inexpensive) my house seems to be on the 'do not disturb list' and they target my neighbours instead. Strange though; some of my neighbours don't like my CCTV system even though it only covers my own property. I wonder some just what some of them have to hide that they are so neurotic or was it one of them who did my house in the first place. I must admit I have my suspicions. The one I have my doubts about acquired a brand new wrought iron garden suite at exactly at the same my mate in a neighbouring street (the properties back onto each other) 'lost' his! I secret mark ALL my gear now just in case I do have to prove something is mine. The price of living in the Salford area, not to put down all Salfordians as I live there myself but, by heck, we seem to have more than our fair share of scrotes.

    Co2 refill?

Thinking about it your mate is probably thinking of one of these Horizon Paintball though you may find them difficult to source in the UK.
  24. The silicone oil added to the CO2 reservoir is of such minimal quantities i.e. a drop on the end of the 12g capsule that it does NOT affect metal to metal lubrication in any way (the only metal to metal contact it can possibly affect is the valve stem and guide and I have NEVER had a problem due to the fibre filter situated before this point. The oil atomised into the CO2 and puts a very, very slight coating on the seals but nowhere enough to be considered lubrication in any way. I do not advocate removing the fibre filter to improve gas flow for this reason as some do. I and many other CO2 gun owners have been doing this for many years with no sign of problems whatsoever and I do strip and service my gun regularly. I am still using the original valve and guide, in fact all the inner working parts apart from the seals are original and are in perfect condition! SEals do eventually fall foul to CO2 in any case so it's a matter of personal choice whether you use a lubricant or not. It just increases the interval between seal replacements. I do agree that silicone oil should never be used as a ferrous metal to metal lubricant ( I have highlighted lubricant as merely putting silicone oil between two metal surfaces cause no problem at all - it is only when used as a lubricant between those surfaces that problems occur) as it softens the surface to mush with the interaction between the surfaces though we are generalising here as formulations of silicone oil are very good metal to metal lubricants. It's a complicated subject but I agree that in general do not use silicone oil for that purpose unless it is specifically formulated to do so.
  25. I paid £315 for my S400 as part of a combo from JSR just before the VCR Bill came into force. With a 6-24x50 PA Ill ret scope the price was about £375. My local dealer said he just couldn't match that at the time so it must have been a good deal then.
