stuart21
Hi, I am quite new to the shooting world, however I have found 2 second hand berettas, that I like the look and feel off and both are in my price range: - Beretta 682 Sporting - Good condition and good fit, however there are a few marks on the stck. Beretta 687 Sporting - Good condition. What is the main differences between these two and what is the better gun to go for. Thanks
Catamong
The 682 is a heavier gun designed specifically for competitive clay shooting, the 687 is a lighter model, more suitable as an "all rounder" for both clay and live quarry shooting. It depends what you want to do with it, if you can, you should try both of them on a few clays to see which one feels better for you. Cat. arjimlad
I have not owned either gun, but have handled both. The 682 is an out and out clay gun, I believe, whereas the 687 is more of an all-rounder. You may find the 682 weighs a little more because of this. It has thicker action walls. Ultimately you should handle both, shoot both if you can, and buy according to condition and fit.
stuart21
Thanks for the quick responses. So, are you saying that the 682 would not be a good game gun, because of its weight or are there other reasons? I am looking for a gun for clay pigeons and rough shooting. welshwarrior
My 682 has worked well but heavy so good for lots of shots from a static location clays hide etc ok on a peg but not great for walking the hill sides.
COACH
The 682 is excellent but a bit heavy for rough/game and hide work. The 687 will be the better all-round gun.
zipdog
buy a browning 525 instead, you wont look back.
Glensman
Well a bit would depend on your own size strength and fitness- I don't find my 682 to be heavy at all, I use it on woodcock regularly and there's little faster than woodcock... garyb
I have owned both in the last few years. If I was more into breaking clay... it would be the 682, I found that it's to heavy and cumbersome for use in a pigeon hide For field and hide work, the lighter & shorter 687 variants are a safer bet, that's not to say they can't be used for clays mind.
