smiiithy
I'm in the process of making some sloe gin and looking to buy some 200ml bottles for samplers/gifts to friends and family and of course to anybody kind enough to sort me a day on the woodies I thought I had made more but it turns out the gin bottles used were only 5x70cl and I paid for 1/3 of it, sharing with both my parents. I'll end up with just over a litre. Next year I will be picking more sloes and upping the ratio of gin! Does anybody have any suggestions where I can buy some some nice looking 200ml glass bottles? In the running at the moment: 5x Sloe Gin 200ml Glass Bottles @ £15 incl delivery 5x TALL SQUARE BOTTLE @ £10.75 incl delivery
pegasus bridge
i looked a couple of months ago and ended up with half a dozen of these (the smaller of the two) ; from Lakelands - a bit pricey though! by the time its finished i reckon i could have brought some - but nevermind - thats not the point is it. http://www.lakeland.co.uk/F/keyword/sloe+g...uct/11087_11086 only problem is they are 500 ml bottles - i think there is a definite gap in the market for some swing top bottles with a 2-300 ml capacity for sloe gin. i will have a look at getting some of those smaller ones with the cork in as well i think. i have spent a while tinkering with labels - i am now looking for some a4 glossy sticky back paper - anyone know where i can get this ? colchesterhomebrew
I've read a few reviews of the lakeland bottles and the main complaints seem to be that whilst the bottles are glass, the caps are plastic rather than ceramic as in real grolsch bottles. "Real" 50cl grolsch bottles with proper lids can usually be obtained from your nearest friendly homebrew shop for around £25.00 for 20. You can also use the 1/2 wine bottles, which are 37.5cl and are usually available for around £7.50 for 12 and look pretty good when sealed with the plastic flanged corks that you normally get in bottles of port.... (I'd post the links but that would be TOO much like blatent advertising ) rgds Andy

(I'd post the links but that would be TOO much like blatent advertising ) rgds Andy i have just had a close look and the lids are infact white plastic, (but i dont have any issue with this). the issue i had with the grolsh 'beer' bottles was that they looked like beer bottles! i am giving most bottles away as gifts and i wanted them to look like a spirit bottle. same problem with the half wine bottles as well -
Beardo
good selection here... http://www.colouredbottles.co.uk and i bought a shed load from here for our wedding... http://www.ebottles.net/index.asp (we grew, then made little jars of chutneys, marmalades and jams for the guests as favours)
huntercarbine
what about the miniture screw top wine bottles you get in the supermarket, they're about 200ml i reckon. just rip the labels off, drink the wine(good excuse for getting blotted in the day) and hey presto. Bleeh
If someone ends up buying a bulk order, I'd be happy to foot some of the cost for a few of the bottles.
