I have just come out of Hospital having spent a week there , after an operation to replace my right knee joint.

In the past, I have tended to have most surgical procedures I've need in private Hospitals and paid for them myself.

After a long discussion with the Orthopaedic Surgeon, I considered these three important points

1) He assured me that he would perform the operation.

2) It would be exactly the same operation as if I paid for it.

3) The "estimate" for the Private operation was £13,000 (depends on the amount of Physio you needed).

I am fortunate to have the money available, but I have never claimed any Government Benefits since being an adult and I resent spending my own hard earned money, when a free Health Service is available.

The main point of this post, is to say how amazed I was at the high standards of facilities and care I received.

Its usual to see attacks on the NHS in the Press and I am sure things are wrong in some areas, but in Lister Ward, Medway Maritime Hospital last week, it was all very, very efficient.

I have written to the Surgeon and the Hospital Chief Executive, expressing my appreciation.

Respect Cranners old bean, not sure I would want to run the risk of MRSA due to the filthy conditions in our local hospitals. It's a disgrace that this can proliferate when all that is required to stamp it out is good hygiene.

Let us know how you get on with the knee as I reckon I've got the joy of replacement knees to look forward to at some future date.

You have checked that your foot is still facing forward I suppose ?:oops:

Cranfield,

Both you and I know of our discussion a while ago after my back operation in January.

I cannot praise the NHS enough for the swift and succesful conclusion to my sciatica problems.

For those who do not know, after two back op's in 1990 & 1997, I again had an onset of sciatica in December 2004. I was scanned on Jan 10th 2005 and operated on for a third time, on Jan 21st 2005.

My surgeon, Ms Bojanic, was a superstar. Leading up to my operation she was constantly checking on my wellbeing, she carried out my surgery and even after discharge, she helped me to fight insurance companies who were not honouring my claims.

I say well done to the NHS, Radcliffe infirmary, Oxford, for the way I was treated. It sure makes a change to the horror stories you hear about waiting lists etc.

I am so glad that you had a level of care that you would expect for your recent operation Cranners. I wish you a speedy and full recovery.

Take it easy mate!

Rob.

as one or two of you guys know , my wife was quite recently diagnosed with breast cancer, that in itself was a kick in the teeth but our next fear was being dumped into the cattle market that is the nhs,how wrong we were ,the treatment she has recieved has been second to none and if we'd had a million pounds to spend in treatment we could not have bought better, the consultants ,anaesthetists, doctors, nurses, oncologist ,phsycologist and even the ladies that fit the wigs could not have been more caring or profesional in any private hospital, they have all treated my wife as if she is royalty,we have been very surprised to say the least and we will both be eternally gratefull to them all at sandwell general hospital.

cranfield, best of luck with the recovery and as LB said the more you work it now the better it will serve you in the years to come.

ps. i used to be very resentfull at the way i thought my taxes were wasted by the government and the nhs,i have after the last few months very humbley :*) changed my tune.

Aren't they there to do their job cos thats what they get paid for ?

Normally I would agree with you, but as the NHS has received so much criticism lately, I thought I should comment on a positive experience.

It sort of balances things out.

Good for you Cranfield if they have done a good job let them know a bit of praise never did anyone any harm. God knows we soon let then know if they do a bad job.
