burntout
Has anyone else here tried Daves Insanity or Temporary Insanity hot Sauce? It's the nuts. It even comes with a healthy warning.....a health warning on a hot sauce...incredible! Once you've had some of that Tabasco is like ketchup - even the habanero stuff! So, what's your favourite? I vote for Encona Hot Pepper as well. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dave%27s_Gourmet
Chard
I wouldn't want any hotter than Encona Hot Pepper, in fact I only use that in moderation.. I think if it gets any hotter, it just numbs your mouth and starts masking flavours, which kind of defeats the object. Zapp
Another vote for Encona, it is divine, and incredibly versatile I use it neat on summer bbq food, right the way through to adding a teaspoon or two to cottage pie filling to make it extra warming. Dave's Insanity Sauce is too hot for most applications, unless you are a real chilli fiend. I tried it in Chilli con Carne and the lining of my colon still hasnt grown back fully. Agree with that Chard. Can't see the point of turning up the heat just for the sake of it. Must be a macho thing? I love a good curry but a Madras is what i go for. Very tasty, but hot enough to know you've had it, and possibly a little bit of the squits as a reminder of your indulgence. Anything hotter and like you say i think you lose the flavour. A complete re-decoration of the bathroom would be the only inevitable outcome of a phal.
Billy.
Dave's sauce is nothing in comparison to Mad Dog 357. (the hottest of the range) if you want the ultimate, Blair's 16 million reserve is the spiciest thing on the planet.
Axe
Theres a temporary store in Brighton Marina that sells everything Chilli. They have beers, sauces, powders, chocolate, the lot. I took a few snaps, of sauces they had on the table as samples. My eldest daughter also learned a valuable lesson about reading labels first! This one though, you had to sign a disclaimer before trying:

When I started to eat curries, I worked my way up, getting hotter and hotter, but eventually I've gone back to Madras. Hot enough to be good, but not silly. I reckon it's a macho thing too . It just gets to the stage of "mines bigger than yours, so there". Things like enjoyment of food then become secondary, which is a bit silly. Axe
An old friend of mine once goaded a take-away for a Madras and his instruction was to make it as hot as you like and don't spare the chilli, followed by some uncalled for drunken abuse. They definitely got their own back on him, much to everyone's amusement. Rice, Madras, Onion Bhaji and Bread, barely managed 3 mouthfulls, before getting thrown in the bin whilst he complained his mouth was on fire. I don't do hot, I never have. I could never understand why people do it. My local Curry House have always said that they would not normally eat curry as hot as some of us have it over here. poontang
Depends on what your stance is on jellied eels I'd rather dip me todger in a jar of this stuff than eat a jellied eel. I'd need a bigger jar though!!
burntout
Daves is about as hot as I'd go. It's still got a very nice taste on it, just has to be very carefully applied to the meal in question. Encona beats Daves on taste hands down as is still pretty ****** hot - it's the scotch bonnets in it....they are the tastiest chilli around IMO. anything with numbers in the name can jog on! njc110381
I want some of that stuff Axe posted! I'll try anything once! I agree with the Encona comment too, that's the stuff I like to tip all over my kababs. It's not too hot but warm enough to be enjoyable and it tastes great. lord_seagrave
Original Encona every time. I love the fact that it tastes of chilli peppers, rather than just the chilli heat. Lovely smeared over re-heated lasagne...! LS
mushroom
"He who dares" is fantastic in small amounts anymore and it is pointless as it removes all the soft tissues from your digestive tract. MM
why would you want to burn your face off, and not enjoy your food? dont tell me there are folk out there who can eat this stuff and go "well, that was nice" without crying like a proper Sharon. i love Tabasco, and that about as hot as it should be. Personal taste is alll well and good, but the ones that go silly hot are just daft and a waste of money.
