Safety in numbers

The other night me my brother, cousin and a few mates decided to go for a night out. At about half 1 in the morning my cousin grabbed me saying my brother was was being attacked. I ran across the club with him to discover to my horror two bouncers holding my brother down whilst another repeatedly hit him in the face. He might of been being rowdy or being a **** but there is something inside you that no matter what has occurred prior, you will do anything for your family. I ran over and drove my knee into the side of one of the bouncers heads kneeling down holding my brother. The next thing i knew i was on the floor having been hit from behind by another bouncer. What happened next surprised me and and the bouncers equally. About 20-30 random lads shoved the bouncers off us. There was then a stand off between all the clubs bouncers, 8 of them! and about 30 lads.

Surprisingly it all simmered down and no-one was kicked out. I left with my brother and was threatened by the manager with legal action due to my unprovoked attack. It was all caught on CCTV. When i asked him why only two bouncers where wearing identification he went quiet. Am i right in thinking all doorman need to have visible ID? The other thing that worried me was the lack of bouncers in the club. How can 8 people be expected to control 100+ people???

Yea but in the real world it often goes off and there need to be a few 'ard ####### around to calm things down.

I do belive all doorman need to be licensed and they normally wear that odd armband thing with a card displayed. Most I speak to are nice fellas, but some are just jumped up gym boys who think they can have a ruck, normally not the case.

I am glad you and your brother are OK, but in future maybe avoid that venue, as the doormam will know you now and be looking to get one back at you I pressume.

My brothers pressing charges and is being shown photos of the employees to see if he can identify who was hitting him. He says he'll recognize the guy straight away. I'm definitely not going again. Also it was £3.50 a bottle!! This is the first time i've ever had any bother in a club. The thing that worried me was if this had happened say outside and i had a firearm in the car with me what i would of done. If i'd threatened then with the gun then bye bye license. If i'd left it in the car then i'd probably of been battered. Having a firearm can put you in some very sticky situations.

I doubt anything will happen. They won't be able to show any CCTV due to it showing them assaulting my brother then he'll be totally free to prosecute. I seriously doubt if they did go to the police that i'd be convicted. First time in trouble with the police and only acting to help my brother. Due to the bouncers not wearing the ID bands i never realized who they were. Also don't i have to go to jail for 3 months for my license to be taken?

Sounds like he has more too loose than your bro, although I doubt he will risk loosing his business, so expect him to lie through his teeth, any CCTV (putting his staff in the wrong) to disappear, witness statements appear from nowhere blaming your bro for starting trouble and getting extremely violent when asked to leave the premises and the doorman you describe ..... not a employee of his, never seen him before blah blah blah

I dont think the police will see it your way I may be wrong but I think they will see it along these lines

your brother was being ejected from the club for what ever reason and you just waded in to the guys ejecting him

should he be trusted with firearm when he acts like that?

just an idea but if you were in your car why would you have a firearm in it while your out on the town?

just trying to put a few examples across

I was just speaking hypothetically, a what if moment. As if it happened in totally different circumstances. Is it a standard police matter or firearms officers to revoke my license if it comes to that? If it comes down to verbal and written statements then i should be ok. There where 7 of us out and we just have to ensure all our statements match. There's no way they can prove we where intoxicated which could throw doubt on our statements.

stu young is spot on in the fact anyone working as a door supervisor as to have a SIA badge visible whilst working, sound to me like these were over zealous jumped up so and so's it might be worth speaking with the SIA aswell as they can then look into the pub/club and do random spot checks and also the staffing is about right

All of their door staff will say they saw you and your friends drinking....... ALOT. Any other door staff, from any other establishment you visited, will say the same to back them up.

The police know full well you and your mates statements will all be the same, your all MATES, to that end they a worthless. They've heard it all before with the compensation grabbers that try it on.

Also you have against you, the fact that you kneed a doorman in the head . . . . . thats not regarded as ''using reasonable / minimal force''

Not having a go mate, just trying to help ;)

What would you have done? I do hope it doesn't involve pulling out the said firearm? I thought the whole screening of cert holders was to make sure you were sane and wouldn't think about using your firearms in fits of rage like this.

Just read up on self defense laws. Apparently you are allowed to attack someone first in self defense. If yourself or another are in direct jeopardy then you can strike out first. Attacks can only be reasonable. If an assailant is attacking somebody in the head then you are entitled to incapacitate any further attack. EG knock them out. My brother was being attacked in the head and my strike out was non lethal and stopped any further attack.

I wouldn't pull out the firearm but it would be in the back of your head as with everyone as a deterrent. If say a gang of people where invading your premises and approached you are you honestly saying you wouldn't think, if a fire arm was in my hands it would deter them and stop me from getting my head kicked in? Hypothetically of course. "Fits of rage like this". My comment clearly said hypothetically and acting in self preservation.

If the bouncer was over doing things then you did the right thing. Some of them have serious power issues. My cousin got in trouble some time ago because a bouncer literally threw a girl onto her back in the middle of the road outside the club and left her there. When he tried to help her up they started on him! Luckily he's a big lad and put a few of them down before the police arrived, and when they did he just put his hands up and went quietly. He got a bit of grief over it but because he was so good with the police and explained himself well they worked out that he was kicking off at the bouncers for a reason and let him go. I think one of the bouncers was charged.

My advice is when the doormen get involved, walk away! Becuase from experience i have found that it normally hurts haha!

Too true i know a few people who have ended up in a fight with bouncers and they were dealt with in a door way out of the view of cctv ;)

The most funny story i have regarding a bit of a ruff and tumble with a doorman is one of my brothers friends who through a punch at a bouncer only to miss and hit the bouncers girlfriend in the face and he got a fair old kicking for that :/
