shoughton
We walked off 500 or so pigeons on Sunday from the rape - they were having an absolute feast. They were there again yesterday, so I'm looking forward to giving them a go this afternoon. My work diary was full - but it's amazing how things can be rescheduled for such a high priority call - and I managed to free up this afternoon. Fingers crossed. Catamong
You might get there just in time to see them all fly off to roost, they go to bed early at this time of year. Cat.

shoughton
Thanks for the comments - I will let you know how I get on. I should be set up by 1pm - so I think it's fair to say I'll catch the pigeons before they roost! No fog as such here - a very slight mist from low cloud, that's all. shoughton
Got there and there wasn't bird in the sky. Then the fog closed in. Then dog walkers stopped for chat. Got cold. Went home.
Sinistercr0c
Sounds about the same as my day. Thick fog, no birds flying, then just as I had packed up, the fog miraculously lifted and there they all were, sitting in a tree at the far end of the field, laughing at me..... Hmmm, at this time of year I'm usually packed up by 1pm, you're wasting your time starting that late in the day. Cat.

shoughton
On Sunday afternoon whilst walking to dog we put up about 500+ birds at about 2:30pm. Just goes to prove how unpredictable pigeons are on rape during these months.
retromlc
went out this morning got there about 9,did a quick walk to reccie for set up site, found todays flight line about 200 birds flew over in about 5 minutes just before 10,got set up by 10.15,sat there for 2.5 hours.Nothing, there were a few just flying over about 400 meters to the right,no more birds flew over me and couldn't pursuade any to check out my horseshoe decoy pattern, there were a few sitting in trees other side of field, getting dispondant now. shoughton
..... getting dispondant now. I know what you mean. I felt like that last night putting all the gear away and finding the flask had leaked over all of the decoys The only positive was that the dog caught a rabbit in a hedge on the way back to the car, so at least I had something to present when I got home. The dog was a perfect gent and didn't tell anybody that the rabbit wasn't truly mine to claim. But we know that there will be good shooting days ahead. Not really that long until the peas are drilled Steve
Cookiemonsterandmerlin.
I find that it is about the second week of feb that you can get some reasonable bags on rape in the late afternoon. Looking back to just after the snow last feb I had five bags of fifty plus after settingup after 12ish. So dont giveup Imo with the afternoon idear just hold on till the day are slightly longer. All the best OTH
