benelli or remy?

I have not handled the 887 yet but I do have a Benelli Supernova.

Looking at a few video's of the new 887 it seems Remington have simply copied many of the features from the Benelli like the rotary locking bolt head & a part of the lower receiver coming out with the trigger group alowing easier cleaning of the receiver, those features were first seen on the Benelli.

It seems they have also address one of the weaknesses of the Remington 870, the old model had a magazine tube that could not be replaced, again Remington have coppied the Benelli with a screw in replacable tube in case you damage it.

The safety is in a nicer position at the rear of the trigger guard on the 887, It is the only thing I would change on the Benelli.

On the face of it I would say Remington are trying to save face with this gun because they have lost ground to Benelli in this market in the USA.

Benelli Supernova's have some features that I cant see on the 887. one is a button on the forearm that allows you to unload the round from the chamber without releasing another from the magazine, this can be usefull when crossing fences or ditches.

The Benelli also has the Comfortec stock system using rubber chevrons as well as a gell recoil pad & gel comb cheek piece to tame the recoil, the 887 only has a gel recoil pad, from my own experiance with the Comfortec system I can confirm it works very well.

Also the Benelli loading/lifter plate will stay in the "up" position once you press it in allowing easier loading of subsequent cartridges, the loading port on the Benelli also looks bigger.

I cant say im inclined to change my Benelli for the 887, the Benelli has a very good reputation as a bomb proof design that is very tough, Remington are just trying to keep up.

Depends on cost I suppose but you cant really put a price on quality.

Benelli!!!! :good:

I would say Beretta, but Benelli is family anyway, the Benelli family is much underated in my view, and whilst I remain Beretta through and through the Benelli is more than worth a look.

Lets face it Beretta aren't stupid, they only buy good companies, current companies owned by Beretta Holdings include: Beretta, Benelli, Burris, Franchi, Meccanica Del Sarca, Sako, Stoeger, Tikka, Uberti Replicas, and probably a few more!!

To give the answer to your question an international flavour, the Super nova is a big seller in the U.S, home of the pump action gun, where it has been "Gun of the year" in terms of sales and reliability reputation for three consecutive years.

If the yanks know about anything, it`s about pump action guns and sales of the Supernova confirm its popularity.

As you`ve probably guessed I`ve got one and highly recommend it.

If you look at some of the U.S. gun and waterfowling forums you will see that, in recent years, Remington has acquired a reputation for poor quality control and shoddy workmanship.

my personal choice would be the benelli super nova and here are the reasons:

1-the benelli rotating bolt is highly reliable.

2-the super nova comes with a shim kit that will enable a person to adjust the drop to fit their own personal needs. i shoot a benelli m2 and adjusting the drop and having the proper shim in place can be extremely important and help you live up to your full potential as a shooter.

3-the comfort tech stock will accept a thicker benelli recoil pad if you need it. i have the longest (or the one that is the most thick) and being tall and long armed it helps me alot in terms of gun fit.

4-the comfort tech stock looks like kind of strange but it does reduce felt recoil

5-you can unscrew the end cap on the super nova and use it sling swivel stud for a punch and remove the trigger assemby without and additional tools. it is a very rugged gun and is as tough as goat's guts and is very clever in the overall design. i don't own one, but if i wanted a gun for the worst weather conditions and to use it like a hammer or a tool, the super nova would be it.

neither the remington or the super nova are especially graceful in the hand and they won't give you the "feel" of a really nicely balanced over and under shotgun---the remington feels like a pig on the end of a shovel. the super nova is alittle better.

How much longer do they make the pull than the standard supplied and where can you get them. Any other ideas for extending LOP on Supernova
