TonySmith
The ‘Baikal Kid’ has made the transition from single barrel to double barrel. I picked up a Zabala 28” S/S for £89.00 on Thursday, quite local to me. Plan was to spring it on the ‘Kid’ today, but, leaving a new set of Snap Caps on the kitchen table kind of gave the game away, and you can’t bull the kid….. So, much to Mum’s annoyance, cabinet opened… a few hours of posing and practice firing, the two triggers did not phase him, the slim stock and fore-end fitted ‘little hands’ very well. This morning I had finished my night shifts, I was woken around 11.30 with ‘kettles on Dad’…which roughly translated means…get up, have a cup of tea, and lets go shooting…. At our permission we immediately headed for our ‘practice range’. I had a test fire, and then briefed the kid on the extra safety and etiquette required now he has 2 barrels. A few targets later we were off on walkabout with the kid as tour leader, we spotted Charlie, fortunately for him I was not shooting, and the kid only had 21g..next time.. A walk to the rabbit runs was a no show, the crows ‘down the end’ was a no show, the kid did spot, and I quote ‘a squadron of Pigeons’ landing on the higher ground, so off we go in stalking mode, I knew this was going to be a none event, but must not suppress enthusiasm… just gets to the brow and they take flight, the kid singles one out and takes a full use of the gun shot well out of range. Back to base camp for a brew, then we dragged the trap out and concluded the day on the clays, he tried some 24g and some 32g, full use and on report, he really enjoyed himself, he shot 45 cartridges, he did say his shoulder was aching a bit,so a recoil pad will be fitted as soon as. So, the Baikal Kid..Is now the Zabala Kid..all for around the price of 2 console games…..Result……… ATB Tony

How did he find the 32 gram cartridges? I think he found it hard going with this gun,a recoil pad should sort, his SB has a fair size recoil pad and he has shot 32-6 / 34-5 with no complaints. TonySmith
Very true George, he seems a brilliant shot already.Glad he can handle the bigger cartridges. Bet your really proud I would say he misses more than he hits, but that does not seem bother him,he has had days when he has hit SFA, and is still just as enthusiastic at the end of the day, he just loves being out there, and it has priority over the Play-Station everytime.... TonySmith
Good to hear he's taken to the double and can cope with bigger loads. How did he adjust with the aditional weight? He seems to be coping well, he carried the gun around for a good hour today on our walkabout, he said it does feel heavier than his Baikal, still fumbling slighty with the 'top lever' as apposed to the 'bottom lever' on his SB, being a true lefty does not help, but just leave him alone and he will work it out.... libs
Its great to see you introducing the kid to the sport like this. Sadly I never had the oppotunity to shoot so young, and had to start off from scratch a couple of years back, I know how much I would have appreciated what your teaching him at his age. Hope he sticks with it, so one day when hes working he can buy the cartriges!

Frenchieboy
I love the way you and your lad do things together. That's something that I never had the chance to do with my dad, he was always working and when he wasn't he was just plain exhausted.
