monkeymagic1969
Half choke will suit for all application - but you are still a heathen for using a semi on a game shoot.
MC
Next week? It's all over on monday you know. 1/2 choke is plenty although I would favour a 1/4 unless you are expecting some highish birds. No point blowing them apart.

MC
yes and Monday it is Then go and enjoy it and take no notice of the purists who would scorn anyone who dares to use a semi auto to shoot a pheasant.

UKPoacher
beaters day it is and ive only got semi at the moment Going by the Beater's Days I've been on your gun might be the only one less than a hundred years old and has a straight barrel. BTW:- I've noticed a lot of members on here advocate wide chokes of 1/4 or so for pheasant and wildfowl and even wide ones for pigeons, yet most of the guns I've seen on Guntrader seem to be more tightly choked. 1/2 & 3/4 and full & full seem to be the most popular, and this is on guns of all ages. Why is this? Edited January 25, 2010 by UKPoacher

Seriously I would choose 1/4 aswell and possibly 32g 6's. Don't listen to everyone about using a S/A, as long as the shoot is happy enough go and enjoy yourself

pegleg31
one of the best shot's i've seen shoot's with true and true. i don't really know what choke's are what as my mate told me they were a waste of time,i shoot most driven game with skeet chokes in(sorry but i don't know what they are).if i was to go onto a shoot where the birds were a little higher i'd consider swapping.but as i kill consistantly at good ranges i'll keep listening to my mate
monkeymagic1969
You shoot a Beretta DT10 and have no idea what chokes are? - pull the other one Edited January 26, 2010 by monkeymagic1969
al4x
beaters days you can often get away with a semi auto, simply because often its more akin to clearing up a surplus of cock birds and sometimes vermin. I have done it in the past but its usually dictated by the keeper and what he feels about it. As for chokes 1/4 or 1/2 will be fine just enjoy it and be very careful they are the days when you make an impression on the keeper or not as the case may be. Safe shooting can lead to lots more on vermin days and fox drives etc
pegleg31
You shoot a Beretta DT10 and have no idea what chokes are? - pull the other one unfortunately my mate told me to buy the best gun i could afford,i was working on a prison and there was a plumber in there who shoots olympic trap for england and there's a good chance he'll make it to the olympics if he's still shooting.i was just starting out so he took me to a friends farm for a couple of lesson's.where i used his dt10,the thing's are great(a bit heavy) little recoil fit lovely etc.... so that was the gun for me .only thing is i don't shoot clays anymore and look a bit of a **** on the shoot with a gun with an adjustable stock and extended chokes but i would'nt change it
nipper
I have 20 odd turning up tomorrow for the cock shoot .Some of the guys only shoot pigeons and vermin regularly and they only have semi-auto's . That's fair enough because they just dont need another gun .(Or cant afford another ! ). My concern on the cock shoot is safety!! From a distance I can easily see if someone has broken their gun and hopefully taken out their cartridges . With a semi it's more difficult . So it depends how he is carrying it . If its low and flat then he gets shouted at !! If the barrels are safe and high then ok until I can check out the chamber . As for chokes ? I would say use what you normally use . Don't be swayed into changing something that works for you . Most of the birds you will see on a cock shoot will be no different than the decent pigeons you shoot flying over . Here, the walking guns shoot birds going back as well. These are not usually high birds and again no different than pigeons bursting out of a wood . High pheasants !! Just enjoy the challenge , enjoy the misses ! (you wont be alone ! lol) and if you hit one or two then you have a bonus and a story to tell . Don't worry about it !! Be safe and enjoy the day . Good Luck
monkeyboots
i used my 391 semi 2 weeks ago on our beaters day and no one had a problem with it but i was told to just put 2 cartridges in it and not the 3 , ive half choke in mine but as sum1 said use whatever choke you feel you shoot best with Edited January 26, 2010 by monkeyboots
Dunkield
I don't think it matters what you use, as long as you are sure the keeper is OK with it.
