Ferretertom
I stop about march and start about sept/oct you dont want to ferret in the spring and summer realy unless you have to or your just killing your own sport hopefully next season the rabbits will have repopulated and big bags will be taken. tanjipete
we started off getting 100 plus most days with nets ,hard work ,then bolting them & shooting them in deep heather warrens ,got up to the 600 mark then the deep snows came & really sorted them out ,bodies everywhere ,its a real shame to see so many dead rabbits ,done some small farms ,stopping at 10 rabbits ,lots of does in kindle now so tomorrow may be the last day although the farmers want them killing by any means ,seen baby rabbits as early as december so it all depends on the weather , looking for new land for the new season as the snows have really done for a lot of bunnies ,it may take a while for them to recover this time ,nature is a great leveller ,pete

pigeon controller
I've been out with my Ladies ( three sisters , six months old) and having some good sport but on the last outing we had young forming in two of the rabbits caught. hutchie the white hunter
That is a general rule, however, there are defintiely young ens in the does towards the end of feb. Come march time you dont want your ferrets chasing young rabbits and as Over the hill says there is more chance of lay ups. Will just have to see how it pans out yea i see your point
hutchie the white hunter
You seem to know alot more than me about ferreting so I think I will ignore my thoughts. Based on your comments on this topic and foxing topic. I agree with you it used to be ever month with a R but over the last 10 years rabbits with young in the early part of the year is more common than when I started so I give up when I find nearly ever doe with young inside them. As it just IMO drivers me crazy digging and chasing baby rabbits though the nets. If I need any tips in the future regarding ferretting I will PM you . Thanks for you replys OTH no worrys just give me a pm :good:
