TopDown
I know this is not an uncommon thing but I was wondering what you would suggest to get round it. I am thinking shoot left-handed at the moment but it would be easier to shoot right-handed. Thanks in advance.

TopDown
The trouble is there doesn't seem to be many left-handed/ambidextrous guns about. Would prefer to be able to buy RH if possible.

geoffrey howes
I know this is not an uncommon thing but I was wondering what you would suggest to get round it. I am thinking shoot left-handed at the moment but it would be easier to shoot right-handed. Thanks in advance. I have the same problem but did not get on with the easy hit bead. I use Scotch tape the opaque type. If you use a paper patch the same size a the tape patch. Soak the paper patch in water and place on the outside of your glasses. mount your gun and move the paper patch until it blocks the view of the barrel and the bead to your left eye. The easiest way to do this is to close your right eye Then all you need to do is stick the tape on the inside of your glasses in the same position. I idea is to get the tape patch as small a possible. When you now mount the gun your dom eye will not be able to see the bead thus making your right eye dom. Hope this helps
utectok
The trouble is there doesn't seem to be many left-handed/ambidextrous guns about. Would prefer to be able to buy RH if possible. There are more left handers than you would think. Also other options include 1. Shoot a right hander it doesn't make a massive diffrence and ifi lend my leftie to folk they still hit stuff righthanded. 2. get a cAst put in a right handed stock not that expensive or you can do it yourself (see my YouTube video). 3. you can gets semi auto most of these have removable shims to set the cast but make sure the saftey is reversible too. 4. Get a left handed stock for a common gun like the beretta 686 series the stock will fit any gun in the series soyou can upgrade and change guns just swap the stocks around. Cole guns have a number of left handed 686 stocks for $350 plus whichis good value or get a price from gmk. Avalon usually have plenty of lefties or guntrader click the handed option. Sorry for thetypos but I hope this helps straight shooting I think in the long run you will be glad you switched as a the shooting gadgets tape etc get a bore after a while! COACH
( 1 ) Both eyes open and then shut your left eye as the gun catches the clay up and then shoot. (Gun up position) Always see the clay with both eyes open and then shut left eye as the gun hits the shoulder. (Gun down position) ( 2 ) If you can`t do this after a month then try the tape on the Len's trick. (Keep both eyes open) ( 3 ) If it`s still no good after a another month then try shooting left handed. (keep both eyes open) If your gun has very little cast on it you should be able to use it left handed but it won`t be good enough for competitions but it will give you an idea whether it works for you or not. You may have central vision so a lefty will be no better than a right hander. In that case it`s back to plan (1) or (2). The problem is most people give up on it too early when they just haven`t given it a good go. You need to train yourself to do it naturally which takes time. You can`t expect to go out and hit 98/100 after just a couple of months or so, it will take years.....and years. Of course if you go and have a lesson with a GOOD coach he will sort you out and tell you what you need to do. It will save you a lot of money and heart ache in the long run. Yorkshire Pudding
I've got the same problem. Close your left eye just as your bringing your gun up. Changing to shooting to left handed when your naturally right handed does not feel right Not true , i'm right handed and left eye dominant . I picked a shotgun up for the first time after 12 years of air gun shooting ( all done right handed) . Then found out i was left eyed , only took a couple of months to get used to shooting left handed , i would really have to think hard about shouldering a gun on my right shoulder . all the best yis yp
clueless1
Same here. The problem I find with shooting off the left shoulder is while walking through a wood/scrub. It's just not a natural thing to carry the gun and mount through all that stuff on to the left. Clays or driven stuff is OK but rough shooting I always find a problem. May give this tape on the lenze thing a go though ;O)

tinytim38
same thing here right handed at everything, but left eye dominant, buy a left handed gun and get on with it after a while it will come as second nature

KFC
I used to shoot right handed, both eyes open. I'm partially sighted in my right eye now so I learned to shoot left handed and it feels quite natural now. I learned to shoot clays with the gun unmounted because it caused to much confusion switching between clay and game. I do have to close my right eye just before I shoot otherwise I'll miss behind. I have used guns with a slight cast for right hand but now I use guns that are straight. I think it is a case finding what suits best and then working with it.
