We'd seen another and were just off after it, but we got involved pulling a car out of a ditch. Might catch up with it tommorrow night as we're going rabbiting at the same spot. Doggone Posted April 25, 2010 Report Share Posted April 25, 2010 A lot of our foxing land has tall rape on now, and the wheats are about 9" high, so it's giving every advantage to the foxes to be able to disappear. There's still one or two about that we know of, so we decided to have a look round last night. Headed down our track towards the main road and almost immediately got a flash of eyes two fields over, about 800yds. Lamp off and looked through the NV. There he was just mooching about, no idea we'd spotted him. Tried a bit of sqeaking and sure enough he looked up straight away. He was a bit suspicious for a start, but eventually after a lot of going down ditches and disappearing for up to a minute, he committed to come see us, you know they've made up their mind to come when you see the head bobbing up and down as they run towards you. When he got to the last ditch to cross, he disappeared briefly then came up our side and stood looking at us, only about 90 yds, nice easy shot in the chest. Medium size dog fox in beautiful condition, apart from a touch of death. We may as well have turned round and gone back to the house, never saw anything else in the next two hours.
