chrispti
You could be the best shot in the world, but if the gun dont cycle or go bang when you pull the trigger . . . . . . . . . . . . . . people pay good money for quality design and engineering which is reliable and will last a life time, not just 3 years. By the looks of it, to get 3 reliable shots from an Escort, you need to buy 3 guns
Mattw
guys i have read all the threads on here regarding the hatsan escorts.whilst i admit there must be something good about them(cheap),i have to say when i handled one it felt awful.i know it`s half the price of other autos but it`s also missing that quality feel to it.i`ll go now and put the kettle on and wait for the onslaught. just my little rant about them. Which escort did you try, was it th luxano with the real walnut stock or was it one of the synthetic stocks which I agree feel like shi.... I would also have to ask are you sure it was an escort and not paulABF's todger? I use an Escort. A magnum, mossy oak obsession. Like my todger, it's old, knarled and rough and the birds don't like it up 'em! It's the gun of choice every time I go shooting and hasn't let me down yet. Nope, but I loaned one, and after the constant jamming after a good few shots had been fired I opted to save a bit more money and buy a better gun Edit to add; I also had a loan of a Beretta 303 which never missed a beat. My personal views are you pay for what you get. Not just with guns Edited February 13, 2010 by chrispti
Dekers
I think my feelings on the Hatsan are well known, but forget all that and just take a look at the reality... The HATSAN name crops up ALL the time on all sorts of site with issues, compare that with Beretta, Browning, Rem etc, etc, etc!!! We all know that every manufacturer will have the odd problem from time to time, but as evidenced by the number of threads on many sites the HATSAN does seem to have more than it's fair share of issues!!! Lets face it, who in the shotgun community has not heard of issues with a HATSAN!! Says it all I think!!!!
DSPUK
I started shooting with a Japanese semi auto - within month's it broke so back to shop to change it and there on rack was a new Winchester 101 and S/H Nikko 5000 both priced at £425 (1985)-- it was no contest the Nikko looked and felt miles better so I bought it - I shot that for a few years winning my first Novice trophy with it -- One day a mate came to local shoot and said try this gun - Wow - couldn't miss -felt just right so a month later I haggled with him and got it for £140 - shot it for years and won loads of money and plastic trophys - anyone who can remember the small ugly guy with a Winchester 1400 semi auto with forend held on with a cable strap that was me. - It's not what it looks like but what if feels like and fit's - My mates have DT10 EELL - Gold E's -Brownings - Miroku's but non feel like my present semi auto and I paid £300 for it. - I do have a Kreigoff -- it's not really but a Valmet trap gun but looks like a K gun - the only O/U that's fitted me and doesn't kick my cheek. As far as I am concerned if you can afford it then good luck if you can't be like me and find something that fit's. All I am interested in is beating next guy not what he shoot's. Dave Very good, true and valid points ..BUT.. we are talking about Hatsans, nobody has ever won a competition with these unless it was Hatsans only, and the winner is likely to be the last one standing whos gun still works!! Sorry .... couldn't resist that one...apparently there are a few out there that work!! :look:
Dekers
Out of curiosity.... Hatsan Magnum semi owners... Get hold of your action, and get hold of the barrel firmly...pull/push them apart...can you feel any movement forward and back? Now consider the pressures on the fore-end screw holding your barrel into the action....if you can feel ANY movement it is only ever going to get worse, and guess what is likely to happen one day!! ATB!!! Check you life asssurance policy!!!

Nothing to do with making a different decision chap, we all make our own decisions, but I think you too would be a little anti, carry a grudge and be very cautious of them if you had been stood next to one, like me, when the barrel blew up!! Unfortunately those sort of things tend to stay with you and leave a fairly major impression on you!! ATB!!

Wrighty112
No disrespect to anyone on here, but I am going to buy a escort semi double magnum for 3 reasons. 1. I want a gun for rough shooting an wildfowling, so I don't want to have to bubble-rap my shotgun everytime I bring it out. 2. It fires 3.5" steel shot. 3. Cheap as chips :-) :-) cheers

starlight32
I think the fact is perhaps they fit better off the shelf, I own a browning, as well as the afore mentioned, but in reality you point it in the right direction, the make does not matter and honestly can you imagine John Bidwell turning up with a Baikal or Hatsan Blaser, considering the cost and they have top lever issues still, I believe not resolved, and I have to admire MC for all the grief he's given the Hatstand owners and now he's posting, asking for help as his beretta aint working Please please, this is all light hearted I mean no offence to anyone. Pure fact is starlight there is a lot of people out there that simply can not afford top end guns so they buy what they can afford and get on with there sport and good luck to them, personally Id like a Krieghoff but i think the missus would go bonkers house extension first damn it You dont drive a Lada if you can afford a jaguar unless your mad (do they still make Cossacks or was it Niva's?) Alan Get rid of the wife and thats your Kreighoff sorted, simple. I would'nt bother about an extension unless it is going to be a gunroom either........... Don't get me wrong I ain't shelfish or owt, but women these days put far too much consideration into what they want. Providing they are not in rags get 1200 calories a day then I don't see the problem. As for the kids, they can get by on 900 claories a day so I'm told......... Funny enough I mentioned that point, a nice gun room I got some odd looks I have to admit shooting wise she's a diamond I can go when I want no hassle, Now my ex called herself a shooting widow but I concede to being out 3-4 evenings, every weekend shooting at some thing for the pot I did the lot Deer stalking, Game, vermin. I tried the wildfowling a couple of times in Mepal near Ely I remember it being cold and I was chuffed when I shot the only goose, then I remembered I had to carry the poxy thing down a muddy track wth all my gear I was knackered, parked my car in pub called The three pickerells and we stayed in a log cabin, a tidal river I think?? long time ago Alan Edited February 14, 2010 by Alanl50

Alan Thanks for your admiration Alan, the Beretta is now working perfectly. After 6 years of nothing short of abuse including a tide under the sea and it has had a hiccup. A more thorough cleaning routine and it would never have happened. I love my Blaser and wouldn't part with it for the world but I also own a Baikal and the dirtiest Stevens pump which I also enjoy shooting. The top lever issue on the Blaser has been sorted and mine is not an issue anymore. It only ever was a bit tight, I have not had an issue where I couldn't open the gun. But then how many teething issues did Beretta, Browning etc have when they first made an Over and Under. Starlight is right, my shooting has improved since getting an F3. The balance and handling is second to none.

Shuck.
HATSANS - you either get a good one or a bad one good ones do everything they should and more, cleanly cycle any sizes and any 21 grams you have lying about with no jams.. bad ones are just ****, they jam when they want regardless of ammunition regardless of how often you lean them, oh and sometimes they blow up
