sv-mark
my mate has got to move his gun cabinet (it will take a few days at least maybe over a week) He has asked me to look after his gun in my cabinet while he does it. what is the best way of doing this, just to transfer the gun to me and when he is ready to have it back transfer it back to him or is there another way. Thanks

Quickshot
Please Refer To BASC Website, But: I think you can "borrow" his shotguns for 72 hours and keep them in your cabinet, without informing the police. however, i am not 100% sure. 12guage
As above and i checked this the other day as i borrowed my mates 12g for a bash you can borrow/lend a gun for up to 72 hrs without a transfer being needed any more than that and you have to start filling in forms Hope this helps mate
al4x
yup 72 hours so make sure he pops in if its going to be longer than that and takes posession and re loan them if that makes sense. Not that anyone really could tell when the 72 hours started except you and your mate. Seems a long time to just move a cabinet though
sv-mark
thanks for the replys so to lend a gun you do not have to fill anyforms out stating when the loan took place? as it may be a dam sight eaisier than transfering the gun to me and back. he may just have to get his ar$e in gear and move it quicker

sitsinhedges
I would imagine that like a transfer you probably have 7 days to notify them too, by which time the gun is safely back with your friend and so not worth bothering with

So, if it is a shotgun you are OK for 72 hours, then you just give it back and borrow it again for another 72 hours, etc etc. You cannot do this with a FAC gun, you need appropriate transfer!! bothbarrels
If it's a shotgun you are fine. but a FAC you will need to notify the authorities BB.

HDAV
no forms needed as you can borrow it for 72 hrs , easy .. however this does not apply to FAC's I assume thsi is cert holder to cert holder Joe bloggs public cant borrrow a gun for 72 hours? Reason I ask is in a few weeks I plan to go clay shooting with my missus, her friend and her friends boyfriend (who shoots and has a cert), but his girlfriend doesn't have a cabinet so while he was visiting i said i would put his gun in my cabinet rather than him having to try and secuire it to a radiator etc at her house. Seems sensible to us just wanted to check it was OK legally. Edited February 16, 2010 by HDAV

Robbly
Wouldn't bother re-loaning, the 72hrs starts if and when questions are asked, if you know what i mean, simples
