:yes::good::devil::hmm: Finally, despite all the hold up ref the medical report etc, a call tonight at 7:30 p.m. (Do they work nights?) from the FEO, my SGC is Granted :hmm: He couldn't understand what the hold-up has been either :good: Anyway, straight out ASAP for a cabinet, he is visiting with the cert on Mon am and then shopping!! Newark gun & game fair soon, I have my ticket, so here goes the old bank balance!!! Hopefully loads of kit there at good prices :yes:

At the end, it has been approx 14 weeks from start to finish, 4 of which were the hold up by the GP for the medical, so I suppose it could have been a lot worse.

Thanks for all the support, now my stoopid questions may really start!!

Congratulations

I applied and got my license over the Christmas period, think it was largely down to the officer dealing with my application lives only a short distance from my home so was able to do things on route so to speak.

It's great to finally know you can go shopping and get your own "lady" so to speak rather than borrow etc

happy days and enjoy

Congrats, dont forget fixings with the cabinet (and a decent hammer drill and bit!)

Yeah fixing the cabinet to the wall can be an interesting adventure - especially if you have a house with breeze or those powdery internal block walls. Conventional expanding rawl-bolts have a tendency to shatter the block as you tighten them which is really, really bad news.

On recommendation of a local hardware company I used Excalibur Screw Bolts - http://excaliburscrewbolts.co.uk/index.asp...p;mainpage=home

These are bolts that have a twin spiral thread - you drill a hole of exactly the right size - and screw the bolt straight into the brick/block - it cuts its own thread, no plug or anything else is required. Works fantastically well. My firearms officer had a really good go at pulling my Brattonsound cabinet off the wall and couldn't even rock it - he was so impressed he asked for the bolt details to share with other prospective SGC holders......

Cost? £5 all up - including the drill.

CongratsI would suggest resin fixings for cabinet,they become part of the structure ,very rare to use expansion bolts in industry these days.

Not used resin fixings - how do they work in brick then? :good:

Talked to the local shop and they have only a Brattonsound 4/5 cabinet with internal safe. Is this OK or do I need to get a separate safe as well for ammo?

Almost 1 hour to the minute, allowing time to swear at the missing drill, that I had put somewhere 'safe' :good: and mixing up the nuts for the rawlplugs with about 50 others :lol: , as well as tidying up afterwards. unable to move it, even with my considerable carcass swinging on it - sorted! :/

Now for the drink!!!---HeHeHe! :good::P

Ta for the replies. As for the gun choice, It looks like the usual beginner's 12G M/C sporter, Browning 525, Miroku MK38, beretta etc. I am going to the game/ gun fair at Newark next week and I hope to try a few to see if the fit feels good. I have been having lessons with an older Miroku, which feels OK, but it will be a good chance to try others before shelling :/ out. I'm not sure yet about the new vs S/H debate and I am not bothered about a high grade stock etc, Grade 1 is fine if it points well! :good:
