kev1986
its just when we have had day on pigeons before we get maybe 3- 4 comming in every 20 mins but these were like 100 every 10 min flying straight over us as if we wernt there , we were wondering if they group up like that before mating etc like starlings do as the ones we shot didnt have full crops or anything
charliespaniel
you are not doing anything wrong its the way they behave in large flocks some times they break up in high winds then if you are verry lucky your in with a chance its mostly about keeping the farmer happy moving them on but in a few weeks they start splitting up so keep at it and good luck
Spaniel
Had the same problem on the crows today, where alot were coming over us but far to high to shoot at. They aint daft
kev1986
so do you think a magnet would help to bring them down or should i just get a 8 bore with swan shot
UKPoacher
Watch the pigeons coming in. If they suddenly change direction or jink as the fly away then either your hide or decoy pattern needs to be altered. If they just continue flying in the same manner then they have other plans and aren't going to come into your field.

I have more or less the same problem so i know how frustrated you are but the standard reply does seem to be they will do what they damn well like so just keep poking at them as long as you are getting some farmers happy they arnt sitting still eating his crops
foghorn
Same problem for the last two weeks, i have had more luck setting up under a sitty tree on their flight-line.

retromlc
yup I've seen lots, but with little wind and flying in large flocks they just aren't low enough,I had a frustrating day yesterday,i got 2 but they were really too high so I was wasting shot really, same field the other day,it was windy and they were coming in to start with ,then the rain wrecked the day, looking forward to a good windy dry day,

madsarmy
One of the first things i was told when i started pigeon shooting was not to shoot at large flocks......... Ruined my day yesterday by doing this. I was hid in a old cattle shelter, to the right was blind could not see birds until they were on to the decoys. The pigeons were coming from the left which was perfect, after about an hour four birds dropped in to the decoys from the right. Just as I pulled the trigger the rest of the flock appeared just behind them from my blind side. Never seen a pigeon for the rest of the morning so called it a day. On the bright side at least I had enough for a couple of pie's. mmmMMM! Pigeon Pie!
