If they:

  • Know you personally and have done for at least 2 years
  • Are not charging you a fee for signing.
  • They are not barred (or would not be barred) from holding a licence themselves due to prior conviction. - Not actually sure if this matters
  • They are not a member of your immediate family

then they should be fine.

Its now acceptable for someone who has a fac or sgc and knows you in the aforementioned categories to sign your application if you go beating etc one of the guns or keeper may do it.YIS

If the question is how can sign my appication for S/g or Section 1 the answer is straight forward anyone that has known you for more than two years it does not have to be a doctor or anyone like that i got my neighbour and another friend to do it as long as they have a clean criminal record then there will be no problem and that means any cautions within the last three years, the only time they will contact your doctor is if you state you are on cirtain medication.

I hope this answers your question.

I had a JP sign mine he was more worried about if he could sign it rather then if it would be acceptable for the police he had a huge sheet of things he couldn't sign. Has anyone tested the definition of Family? how far does it go? I.E is aunt a nono? Brother in law? partners mother if not married (as no legal standing of family)? Cousin?

That's right about Dr's, if they charge, then they stop being suitable. Which is daft, cos they advertise the price in my surgery!

FAC renewals can be ordinary people, SGC needs social standing.

I guess it depends if they are countersigning to say the photo is a true likeness rather than as a referee. Teachers are a good bet, would a publican/Licensee count?

Cousins can sign but any immediate family connection whether you're married or not cannot sign... so your girlfriend's dad can't sign for example.

10.8 Members of the applicant's family may not act as referees. In the absence of a Court ruling, family is taken to mean the following: mother; father; son; daughter; sister; brother; aunt; uncle; grand parent and mother/father/sister/brother in law. Cousins are not regarded as immediate family but cohabiting partners should be considered as family for these purposes and not be accepted.

Interesting but he could if we didn't live together, surprised by sister/brother-in-law tho. Do you have a reference for the quote please.

You know that's bad, don't you?

To be a valid referee/co-signor they must not be getting paid for it. Probably best you don't mention that to too many people.

I think it's different if they are signing to say photo is a true likeness rather than as referee and i am sure its probably an "admin fee" might be best to check with FEO before doing so again tho.

For example if David blunkett was your referee as upstanding and honest person how could he sign your photo as a true likeness?
