docholiday
I have been thinking about replacing my ageing defender prob with a new one but last week went stalking and saw a great set up, my mate has a transit van with a quad strapped inside, he just parks up and drives the quad straight out picks up deer from places I wouldnt get close to with the defender, then drives deer and quad back into van, a few straps and he is away. I am now thinking of abondoning the 4x4 car and going down this route, seems to be perfect doc
Yorkshire Pudding
Get a 110 single cab pick up . Does the same job as the transit van as you will be able to fit a quad in the back of it . all the best yis yp
al4x
or any 4x4 plus trailer will tow it, a van is pretty restrictive though if you use for your day job then ok.
bigchap
how can a quad get places a defender can't?
docholiday
how can a quad get places a defender can't? ummmm not sure where you are coming from here, a quad will get around a wet field with no problem, its lighter and the tyre spreads the weight much better., so you can drive a quad over farmers land that i wouldnt take my defender. a) in the winter it would get stuck and it would make a mess of the land. hope that is what you were asking doc

al4x
seems a ridiculous question, quads will go up most hills and accross most waterlogged fields with minimal damage. Defenders are fine but you won't get one accross a waterlogged field and if you do the farmer will kick your backside straight off the land
Cookiemonsterandmerlin.
Doc I have a 110 with a ifor williams p6e trailer my quad fits into the trailer and then when we get to farm I tip the quad off and hook the trailer to quad perfect. I cant live with a 4x4 as my work involes hedgeing logging I can reach jobs most cant. The tralier idear is great for deer as I just have a hand winch to pull the deer onto trailer . Ferretting wise I can carry all 15 ferrets and a bag load of rabbits without me dad or my wife breaking sweat. Pigeon shooting great carrys all my gear in trailer plus dog up big hills. And you can leave you landy nice and safe in the farm yard without it being on the side of the road. It is the best thing I have bought and will go where a two tonne landy will not without causing massive soil damage. Regards OTH

Ps I often sleep in the 110 when stalking, could you sleep in the trailor ? sounds like it may be more comfortable doc Edited March 11, 2010 by docholiday
Cookiemonsterandmerlin.
Doc mine setup cost rougly 4k but has made its money time over as I use it for business use as well. Quad a good one 3.5k road legal and a 2nd hand p6e £500 to £600. You could put a canopy over the cage on the trailer and mat or fishing bivi bed and bivi bag and be very nice. HDAV
MY Aunt bought a Quad and trailer combo, the quad dealer made the trailers for delivering the quads and basically sold one with every quad it was big enough for a large round bale and had a ramp like this one http://www.tettontrailers.co.uk/trailersal...x_quadbike.html but was blue (this was 10 years ago before Quads were common place and before cheap road legals, trailer will make quad more stable and allow you to carry more (Water/petrol food etc) easyily dragged by a large estate or 4x4 perhaps a Crewcab pick up (you will need something big enough for the gear and deer once quad is back on trailer tho.) EDIT http://www.all-about-the-home.co.uk/wilsto...-ramp-183-p.asp is the sort of thing i think there is an option for Ply sides and base although not needed and increases weight http://www.wheddoncross.org.uk/arkatvs/usedatvs.htm Edited March 11, 2010 by HDAV
bentbarrel
Hi, ive got a vivaro i use it for work so its all racked out, but it really limits you, as to where you can go. Get a 4x4 definately! I spent a good period of time with defenders fixing them and driving them and i never had one stuck!
docholiday
Thanks guys as usual some great ideas to contemplate would quads fit onto all pick ups ? ie is width a problem with any pick up bed ? like the idea of the quad on a trailor then using the trailor behind the quad, off for a little think, cheers guys Doc
HDAV
I would say trailed quad is the way forward as to get quad onto pick up you need right size bed and long ladders and it means no hard top, trailered quad means crewcab 5 seats, hardtop (security) and the same versatility IMO
