Pigeon_snIPer
Hi all, This might sound like a silly question. But, Is it possible to convert a hammered shotgun into a hammerless one - ie. changing the action part. Thanks John p.s. No, Im not going to try it on mine :-)
fortune82
There certainly isnt any off the shelf conversion kits! I expect you would need a whole new action as the dimensions of the lock plates and stock would alter. Very expensive to carry out if it is possible at all. mossy835
i think it will be more trouble, then its worth.
fortune82
You would need to change the entire action and stock which would basically mean just fitting your barrels to another gun. Unless you wanted the resulting gun to look like a complete botch job! Think about it. The strikers on a hammer gun protrude from the rear of the action. Fitting hammerless lock plates would require the strikers to be inside the action. Therefore the stock would need to be wider where it met the action. The lock plates would also protrude from the rear of the action and not be flush with it! It would be better just to buy a hammerless gun. triumphant59
I converted a .177 BSA airgun into a O/U 16b sidelock ejector using a kit from Woolworths. Quite an easy conversion, only took about 3hrs. Might be worth having a look in Wilko's they seem to have taken over from Woolworths. Good luck!! Vince Green
The first question that came into my mind when I read your question was why would you want to. Nothing sweeter than an old hammergun.
arjimlad
I think the word everyone else is looking for is No. As Fortune82 stated the gun would basically need a complete new action. Sorry and all that ! (I bet someone will be along shortly who knows better though..this is just me giving them the golden opportunity to confirm my idiocy)

Billy.
This is interesting - an actual conversion :-) http://www.remingtonsociety.com/rsa/journals/Unusual_Double Yeah, that'll cost about two grand to do.... Seriously, it's a nice gun. It'll have a bit of history, so why ruin it?!
Popgun
You would need a good Gunsmith not a gun seller but a proper gunsmith a new action a new stock and a lot of money to pay the gunsmith it would be cheaper to buy a new gun.
