Right i bit the bullet and final got a real lamp yesterday and went for the lightforce 170 and went out with it last night in the car and it is amazing but would like to get a battery pack for it on the and have been having a look around and £50 seems to be the cheapest  so i was wondering am i going to have to pay this? (if i do i will) but I was wondering if i am missing something here? so can you let me know what options are out there?

also can someone breakdown how Ah break down into time the lamp can be on?

I don't see an easy reply here, the 170 does use battery a bit..do you use a dimmer, and just how long do you think you will need it during a night?

The new Lithium ION are much lighter but very expensive.

Battery packs are fine but can weigh a ton, perhaps a 7 or 9ah single battery could be considered if you have easy access to the motor and could change it during the night!!

Lots of options of materials and money!

Hi,

A170 fitted with a 100w bulb will pull about 7amps+. For my needs, a 14ah battery is fine. The following prices are there to be beaten, just an idea of cost. Deben do a 14ah package; battery, charger and shoulder bag for £82.95. Replacement battery is £49.95 and a 7ah battery is £19.95. However, given some tape, a dab of super-glue, a little time and a tad of electrical knowledge as a 14 battery is two 7s joined together there's an instant saving of £10. Elsewhere it should be possible to get a 7 for under £15. If you can grab any suitable bag and understand the difference between parallel and series, you could knock up the whole lot for (not forgetting a fuse) less than £50.

Cheers

I wont need more than 45 mins of lamp time in a night i think as is and i could charge it in a car yes and it does not have a dimmer

I would rather buy a kit as my electrical knowledge is limited to GCSE physics.

if you go into maplans they sell car start kits for £25 bright yellow thing with two jump leads comming out of it, take it appart and you have a 14ah battery, and charger,

i use mine on my deben max and get over two hours full power no probs, allso use the same battery on my pigeon magnet, just put it in a ruck sack and your away...

DIY battery packs are OK, but unless you have the notion to do it, it's usually easier just to buy one ready-made. Something with a shoulder bag or waist mounted belt kit is great.

Buy the highest Ah rating one you can afford. I use a 12Ah pack from Clulite, and it lasts ages, and it has a cigar lighter socket and cable so you can charge it from the car.

A 9ah battery will do the job to spare then...anything more is surplus weight to carry around, the 10ah Lithium ION sound nearly ideal IF you can run to that much money.

I dont have one but hear they are ok!

culite every time, you may have to shell out a bit on a battery pack but you will have it for life, when the battery gives up the ghost(should last a few years) you can just buy another battery from screwfix for under £20 and fit it in.

i use a 9amp battery for rabbits, which lasts quite a while, been out for over 4hours and used it to light up target for zeroing before going hunting.

used a 17amp battery previously,as it was cheap new and was great for foxing.

i use a backpack to carry either battery for shooting.also i have the dimmer on mine and use filters a lot now(which can lower the beam),mainly red but, amber one is used now and again.

Webber is your man - he can supply well priced 12v batteries, then all you need is a army surplus pouch.

i tend to have a couple of 7ah one's in the motor for when i need to go walkies - they also fit well into army ammo pouches.
