I have auctioned my 1996 Shogun on Ebay and a guy from N.I. has bid for it and is flying into Stansted tomorrow to pay, collect and drive back via Liverpool (I think).

I sold the car for £2k - are cars that expensive in N.I. that this kind of thing (flights, ferry etc) is worthwhile - or is this guy nuts ? (The guy isnt a car dealer)

about 10 years ago i was selling an old MK1 escort, a guy rang up from Ireland and said he would come to look at it, i thought oh yeah ok, another time waster. the next day the phone went, it was this guy asking for directions, he turned up with a trailer and took the car away.

As Shot Shot has already said, " we get shafted every which way". Just about everything is more expensive here in N Ireland cars, Insurance, food, electricity, gas, etc. The one thing in our favour I have noticed that seems to be a bit cheaper, is the cost of a round of clays. Whether it's skeet, any of the trap disciplines or sporting, a round of 25 is usually about £4.75. Who needs to eat anyway.

Well, the chap flew in this morning and is now driving my old car up to Holyhead to catch the ferry. The flight was £50 and the ferry back £124.

He said that he wanted to buy from over here as we have less trouble with dodgy diesel over here. He explained the fun and games that goes on with (red and green) fuel in Ireland.

He was into his shooting too, what a nice fella

Just wait till he finds its not got air con fitted

still at least he should be too far away to bring it back

It is OK al4x,

ME changed the symbol on the fake switch from air con to "HYPERSPACE". He also left the guy a pair of his fake "Spock" ears in the glove box.

i have bought 2 cars(one shogun, one 7 series) for my family back in N.ireland because of the price difference. its well worth driving them back on the ferry.

that said when i owned a nissan navara the cheapest one i could find was in belfast so i flew over and drove that back over to england!!

That's only three tanks of fuel, and when you think the populaiton fo NI's only 1.5 million

there's a much bigger pool of cars t find the one you want on the mainland too.

(And they're more expensive in NI).

i was based in NI in 86 for a 2 year tour with the armedforces, we use to get people over from the south cause they use to pay nearly 15 pence a litre more on fuel

Dont know about second hand cars - new cars should be no different from GB and I have had some very good deals from main dealers here in NI and have compared them with prices on the "off islands" ie England, Scotland & Wales and you can do just as well here..

Certainly cars in the Republic are MUCH more expensive so I guess that might make sense but suspect you should pay import duty there?:o?

But I guess there must be a bigger pool of second hand cars to chose from in GB and if you want a particular make, model or spec, you will get a better choice.

With flights over at around £50 and a ferry back for less than £100 plus the cost of fuel, it is no big deal to come over and buy a car if it is just what you want.
