When to Squeak

Suppose you mean when out lamping :good:

At this time of year, when silaging is on, I don't think squeaking makes any difference. They are more interested in mouse and moles that have been hit when cutting and you can get closer, a lot easier..

Only time I or my mate squeek, is if they are moving away. Winter months, ok, different. Sit and squeek for a while, wait 1/2 hr, if nowt shows in lamp, move on elsewhere.

Summertime, not much squeaking needed, loads of food around.

Works for me, anyway

maybe wy111 however you should have seen the cubs and how they reacted a few weeks back when I was out with garyb 250 yards to 6 feet away in minutes. At the moment the cubs will play ball very easily so squeak them into range, adults can be different as they will be a year old at least and fairly clued up, generally if they won't pay attention at the first few squeaks its hardly worth carrying on as they may well have heard it before. If you can get a shot don't bother squeaking but if you can't its well worth a try

Calling foxes works all year round.

They come to the call, because it appears to be an easy / free meal on the table.

Not every fox will call.... for sure!

I'll call when there are no eyes showing on the patch, or when a fox is spotted in an area or at a distance that dosen't present a shot.

Likewise..

I find a "Baaaaa" or an "Oiiiiiii" seems to stop them long enough to squeeze a shot off.

That said, we've had then come within 10 feet before, and almost into the back of the 4x4!

Perhaps I should put in a variation for a big spade!
