Cosd
I bought a speed controller from the auction site, it was from a private seller and was sold as new never used. The seller is being good to be honest and has offered a full refund so I don't think they sold it knowing it had an issue, they bought it over a year ago but never used it, and when I got it though it was out of the packaging it did look brand new. Anyway, on first time out it blew the fuse immediately so I ordered some more fuses and with the Hyperflaps on there is worked for about 5 minutes before blowing again. Is it correct that the fuse is 3.15amp, that's what I bought because that is what was in it, it just seems a little on the small side to me to be controlling a motor! Cranfield
Mine is a 3.5amp, 20mm fuse and they do seem very "delicate". Setting up the other day I had to replace a fuse, fortunately I carry spares as this does happen quite often. The fuse seems to be held securely in the speed controller, with the screw down lid, etc., but perhaps it can't stand the knocking about in the bag. I carry the spare fuses around in an old film container, stuffed with cotton wool and that should be protection enough. If someone ever invents a speed controller that doesn't need a fuse, or uses unbreakable fuses, please let me know.

I also bought 10 spare fuses, but they really shouldn't be blowing. My controller looks exactly the same as this one http://www.bushwear.co.uk/nostyles.php?ProductID=121207, I called the shop and they looked at the packaging and it said maximum 7.5amp quick blow fuse. I think I am going to try a 5amp fuse to start with and see how I go.
Cranfield
Mine appears to be exactly the same speed controller. Let me know how you get on with the larger fuse, I was advised to use nothing bigger than 3.5amp.
wattsowatts
I've given up using my controller as I've got through so many fuses. Luckily my magnet itself does allow me to set two speeds, so I just use this now.

wattsowatts
I bought my current magent at the CLA Game fair the last time it was in Oxford, A-A DECOYS. It was sold as a multi speed machine, just under the motor you can remove the wire and attach it to another connector, by doing this you can speed it up or slow it down. I see they are selling on E-Bay. Edited July 3, 2010 by wattsowatts

activeviii
Mine appears to be exactly the same speed controller. Let me know how you get on with the larger fuse, I was advised to use nothing bigger than 3.5amp. i had the same one but kept blowing fuses. i bought a magtame one and never had a problem since. i always plug magnet into speed controller first and then make sure it is in the off position before connecting to battery, i then turn the controller on slowly until required speed. larkspur
Have used Magtame controller for two years now with 3.15 fuse, the only time it blew was because I obstructed the revolution. It must have had at least 50 outings now.
tabs
I use the same controller and had the same issues. Uprated to a 7 amp and problem solved. No smoke yet! I did however remove an replace a kinked section of the lead also. Think I will keep an eye on it on the stubbles, mate nearly set fire to some rape stubble last year with a banger! markyboy
just bridge across the fuse holder with a bit of tin foil, does the trick
HW682
You could consider trying a re-settable fuse/circuit breaker. They probably don't come much cheaper than this range from Maplin (£1.39 ).... http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=493 Maybe try a 3 or 5 amp in the wire to the controller and keep a higher (5, 7 , 10A) ordinary fuse as a back-up in the controller itself. To select the best values you would need to know the normal running current of your rotary. Edited July 5, 2010 by HW682
Cosd
I searched for a similar controller and found it should be a 4amp fuse, I called a supplier and he said 7amp, so the stories vary depending on supplier. I ordered a pack of 10 x 4amp fuses to try these first. I have 9 x 3.15amp if anyone wants them!! Thanks for all the advice guys.....!
