BASC payments

I can't see why they don't offer the service, even if they charge for the extra costs involved. The reason I like paypal is that I tend to do a few jobs / transactions on the dreaded auction site and usually have a surplus in paypal for toys etc. :good: It's my stash that no-one knows about. :)

Ah i get it, you want to pay with electronic credits of money you think the taxman doesn't know about to pay for your sporting insurance and membership...Like everyone says there are a multitude of ways to pay and i doubt any others apart from those sold on ebay! Who buys insurance from ebay anyway :good: ? will accept paypal as a method of payment....not having a credit card is no excuse, there are plenty of other secure options to pay.

I fully support BASC's stance against paypal.

Paypal is all part of ebay & they are very anti gun, I used to use paypal & ebay but I dont anymore out of principle.

If everyone did the same perhaps we would have more clout.

Whilst I admire your principles I'm afraid mine aren't quite so high when there's a dollar to be made :):good:

OK, OK, I give up. I'll send them a cheque or something. All I did was query why they will not take paypal (wasn't impressed with the reply though, someone must have had a bad hair day) and world war three breaks out.

Do I get an all over tingly, sort of superior feeling when I join? :)

:) ........it'll be worth it, peace of mind and all that, it's nice to know if you're in a 'position' to have someone to call, someone who can give you concrete advice :good:

Get yourself a pre paid credit card.

Simply top it up with whatever amount you want then use as a normal credit card. If you're worried about online fraud etc. it's the way to go, as there is no credit limit for a scammer to spank it up to and you can keep it active with just a couple of pence. If you see something you want, top it up, buy the item then leave it with a couple of pence on the card. No credit checks etc. simple application and accepted everywhere Visa/Mastercard are.

Easy peasy :)

Sounds like a good idea.

See if you can top it up with PayPal?

I'm with you matey.

I tried to join BASC recently but they refused to accept my payment.........I wanted to pay with Groats. Never mind, it's their loss, I will find a proper insurance company who do accept Groats. If they were good enough for Edward 1'st they should be good enough for BASC. Seems to me BASC are a bit old school and not up with modern currency.

While I don't think that failure to accept subscription by Paypal is a very good reason for not joining BASC, I am totally amazed that, in this day and age, BASC don't accept payment by Paypal. If they are trying to attract members, they should offer the widest choice of payment options.

Contrary to what has been said on this thread, there are huge numbers of companies and organisations that accept payment by Paypal. For example, I have just used it to pay for some camera filters fromWarehouse Express, the UK's biggest seller of photographic and optical equipment. In fact, almost all companies that sell online will accept Paypal nowadays. Big department stores like BHS take it, all BBC shops take it, you can pay your home or motor insurance with it, all the online bookies take it..... As I say, you can buy just about anything using Paypal

The wildfowling club to which I belong accepts payment for its badges, T-shirts and other merchandise by Paypal. (They don't accept it for subscriptions because 90% of the club subscription goes to BASC and they can't discount that by the 2½% Paypal charge.)

I am a bit like the original poster - I receive my royalties on my book sales every month by means of a transfer into my Paypal account. (It is either that or a cheque in US$ with slow payment and horrendous bank charges). Some months I'll transfer it to my bank account (which is free); other months I'll use it to pay for something by Paypal.

When I sell on Ebay I don't accept payment by any other method. When I buy on Ebay I don't buy from any seller who doesn't accept Paypal. Its a simple matter of security and customer protection. I know that there are websites full of detractors - just like this site is full of detractors of BASC and there are websites for detractors of Land Rover, Arnold Clark Motors and just about any other product you could name. When a company has millions of customers, it's easy to find a few thousand who want to moan about something. Christ, even the Facebook pages "supporting" that murdering b@st@rd from Newcastle had thousands of contributors. But, for my money, only ever having to give your card or bank details online once is far preferable to giving them out every time you make a payment of any kind.

Just one caveat - don't use Paypal for buying travel tickets or holidays. Pay them direct by credit card (not debit card!!) as you get the best protection that way if the travel company or airline goes bust (as happened yesterday).

But that's straying from the point. Hopefully BASC will soon add Paypal to its range of payment options.

I love reading the vast number of ignorant opinions about PayPal on here.

Do you realise it's owned by eBay, which is a dominant figure on the Internet? They bought the company, and yes, do charge fees to the selling party, but ensure that all transactions are protected and actually stop people from stealing your identity, by not allowing the selling party to see any of your bank details.

I have paid thousands and thousands via PayPal online and I know that any transaction I make with it is fully protected and insured.

However I am also thinking that the OP is a bit silly from refusing to pay for anything online with a card. There's 'being cautious' and being a fearful person who deems all Internet transactions a threat.

So long as you have a well maintained PC and don't buy stuff from websites which are clearly risky, then you're fine.

I do feel though, that the OP may be happy to make a Western Union transfer, should the need arise.

for those so keen on paypal, a friend of mine new to ebay sold a telly last week buyer odly paid by paypal and picked it up the following day. Then turned out the ebay acount and paypal account had been hacked so paypal took the funds back and she is down one tv. Paypal are ok if you are a buyer but for sellers it is very open to fraud with no protection

A mate of mine sold some vintage lorry headlights on ebay, worth a fortune. The seller collected them, left positive feedback, did a chargeback claiming the goods never arrived and got his money back.

I don't doubt that you won't be a victim of identity fraud using paypal, but you do get stitched up in other ways!
