Wiggum
Hi All I'm Moving house in around a month and just wondered if anyone can give me an idea as to whats the procedure regarding changing my address on my cert ? Do you have to pay for the change ? Obviously i will need a visit from the FEO to check my cabinet after its moved and i'm going to transfer my gun's to my dads cert until my cabinets in and been checked. Is there anything else i need to do ? Thanks in advance
Heladoxa
best thing is to contact your FEO direct and get it right first time
al4x
move and move your cabinet and guns fix to wall and then send in a letter and your ticket saying you've moved. Its no biggie you're responsible for the guns security and you don't have to have the cabinet checked before you put guns in it
955i
If it comes to it you don't need to transfer the guns to another certificate. I am currently looking after a friends guns as he is moving and had to take his cabinet off to repair the wall and decorate and all we had to do was both send a letter to the Firearms Dept saying that I was looking after them for a period until he had moved and re-fitted his cabinet. His records are held by Nottinghamshire and their police will let the Derbyshire Firearms team know (double checked with them to make sure ) Edited August 8, 2010 by 955i
Vince Green
Just to be on the safe side write a letter to both lots of police giving all your details and what you intend to do and then you are covered no matter what. Its a routine matter for them, it happens all the time. They like it if you take the trouble to keep them informed. The only time I have ever heard of anyone having problems was when a member of our club moved to Leics and put his guns in our club armoury for temporary safe keeping ( as many have done before) The Leics police wouldn't transfer his certificate until he lodged them with a dealer in Leics so they could inspect them. They also had a few other funny ideas and attitudes about some other things. Our club liason FEO said it was because he came from the Met area and they had a chip on their shoulder about the Met and always were difficult to deal with. Apparantly a few of the County police forces are like that about the Met. there might be things going on that you couldn't even be aware of. On the day of your move, send your licence with a cover letter giving them your new address to the firearms department and that is all you need to do. They will arrange for a visit to your new home. J@mes
when i move i get the cabinet up, put the guns in, then let them know iv moved. This is what I did, they came and visited about 8 months later out of the blue and when I wasn't in - I'd forgotten to tell them my new mobile number and we had the home phone number changed too, which I also forgot to tell them about

Exactly, that is all that is required by law. Why some make a meal of it is quite beyond me.

fluke2
Why do you send your licence in for a change of address and leave yourself without one,I never do just a letter with the new details etc, they come and inspect, issue a new licence, and I send the old one back, done it 4 times in the last seven years. fluke2
Just checked ,your licences state The holder of the certificate must, without undue delay, inform the chief of police by whom the certificate was granted of any change in his permanent address. So write a letter and keep your old certificate until you receive your new one.

The firearms dept told me i had to send it in when i phoned to ask what the procedure was , The FEO told me when he visted that the office always tells people this , and he advised if i needed to do it again to stock up on ammo. The local office up here has never complained about the way We do this, and the firearms officer doing the inspection normally has the new licences with him and if everythings okay he swops us for our old ones, theres three of us with certs in the same house. Were with northumbria and at durham you can go to the counter in the office and theyll do it there and then.
