strix
I am just about to send off my application form (it has taken time to get hold of my referees - they have been away on holidays!). I am applying for both .17HMR and .22lr but I don't know what is a sensible of reasonable amount of ammunition to put down on the form for a) in my possession at any one time b)to be purchased at any one time. Any advice gratefully received - I will mainly be shooting over the 80+ acres we have here (horse pasture infested with rabbits) plus have permission to shoot on the two bordering farms totalling many hundreds of acres (one of which is keepered so won't be shooting there much). I don't want to seem extravagant in the application but at the same time I don't want to stint myself and find myself short at years end. By the way I am doing a coterminous application for a 12g o/u and a 20g o/u although all I can only actually afford initially is the .17HMR initially but a couple of months later the .22lr but thought I might as well apply for as many types of gun as poss!! Thank you Strix
al4x
buy 500 hold 600 on my rimfire, in reality unless you have a severe infestation it will take you a while to get through 500 rounds
John_R
I asked for 500 to buy/600 to hold for the HMR and got it. I asked for double that on the .22 as I put down for both target and vermin control, again I got it.
kent
As above, remember it's better to buy a full complete brick ie 500 rounds both in terms of cost and batch reliability (keeping zero one box to next) the extra 100 allows you to not run dry. Don't just buy a full brick to start off just boxes of various to try and see what your gun likes
Billy.
I'd go 500/1000. What's the point in the extra 100? Your rfd is more likely to give you discount if you bought two bricks of rimmy.
robc89
My RFD said to put Buy 500 Hold 750, So that is what i did and there was no problems. Thinking about i cant see why 500/100 would make a difference i just did as i was told!
Colster
On my initial app for the LR I put 1000/1200, I got 500/750 so when I put my variation in for HMR I just put down 500/750 again. I think regardless of what you put down your FLO will have it's own view on what they'll grant you. I don't find it restrictive though, I usually hold less than about 300 of each anyway. the running man
I've,buy 2000 keep 3000,but I do lots of target stuff. By comparison my .17hmr is as everyone elses buy 500 keep 600 u don't want anymore than that for rabbit control. Mines the same on 30-06 .223 and .44,2000 on my .45 as its comps again. U could try asking for buy 1000 keep 1100 after say 6-10 months if u make the point that u need more due to more permissions etc,but for now buy 500 keep 600.good luck. MC
I have, Buy 1000 hold 1200 .22 solid Buy 500 hold 750 .22 and .17 expanding and Buy 200 hold 250 7.62 solid. There is no logic to it and put down what YOU want and as long as you have a case for it and a safe large enough to hold it then go for it. al4x
snap somehow I got buy 400 hold 500 on my .243 possibly the FEO was used to people reloading when larger supplies are more common. Otherwise you'll be wanting a bigger safe for that amount of made up ammo
