matt_l
Just got a couple and when I tried to fit them to my floaters the threaded 'bolt' isn't long enough to grip the floater rod. Is this a common issue or do the hypaflaps come with different fittings. Also noted previous posts re the plastic threads and they do look a little weak? Will contact the supplier in the morning who also supplied the floaters but was just looking any info beforehand.

matt_l
What length is your threaded bolt or diameter of your bouncer/magnet rod? I know sounds bad but I couldn't think of any other way of wording it!
Jesse James
I had an issue with these, there were no instructions that spoke about using a file to rough up the arm or to file it flat a little or simply add some tape. If you look closely at the video on you tube you will see they have added tape to arm of magnet. I found that one of the decoys i had would not simply tighten up and the decoy would end upside down after a bit. Mine on the first outting had an issue with the bolt stripping the plastic thread when i tied to tighten up and i will add i did not over tighten it as the other decoy was fine and no issues. I found two better larger threaded bolts with black plastic handles which seem to be much better and no issues so far with at LEAST 12 outings so far. The only issue i see now and then is that one wing seems to wrap it self up and it looks strange as one wing is flappng in the wind the over is foled up on it self....! One thing i will add is these are great and work like a charm. Lee Edited August 18, 2010 by Jesse James
pigeonblasterian
Never had bother with my hypa flap fasteners.
Beardo
if you're having a wing folding problem, it's probably due to the the fishing line being too long that runs between the back of the wings - tie a knot in it to shorten it. Cranfield
You can also have problems with the wing folding if you put the Hypaflaps "flat" on your rotary arms. The Hypaflaps need to be tilted inward (bottom facing outward), as much as 45 degrees, this gives them the best visible action. The (metal) thread length on my Hypaflaps is one and a half centimetres, the diameter of the rod I fit it to is half a centimetre.
Jesse James
Thanks Guy's for the advice. Will try it tomorrow when out. Thank you gents. Lee
matt_l
Called with supplier today, he was aware of the problem which came to light with his latest batch. He supplied me with longer winged bolts which work fine. He also pointed out that the crow decoys have metal holder where as the pigeons are plastic, both are new batches. Jesse James
Thanks for the heads up, good to know the Crows have a better system. Glad to hear your sorted. Lee.
big simmo999
When did they go to plastic on the threads? That is surely a recipe for dissaster. I've had mine since they came out and they have a good strong metal thread and screw and not had any problems. I don't like the idea of plastic :o

utectok
I've never had an issue with them and have two on old bandsaw blades as bouncers and two on the magnet all have metal threads and one pair I bought recently one five years ago. They look weak but last well and I bash mine about abit. Atb will
MC
I think they are too delicate, I have had mine now for several years and they have fallen apart just about everywhere they can. I think the carbon rods are about the only thing I have not repaired to date.

Cranfield
Mine are in the back of my truck all the time and I keep them assembled (with the carbon rods in), they may be a bit bruised, but they work fine.

Hypas only came out late 2006, hawkeye and myself were pretty much at the front of those who started using them, the original pair I started with ( received oct 30th 2006) have been well hammered since then, yet they are still more than serviceable ( a true case of deceptive looks ie they look fragile but are really quite tough) and were last used yesterday, to good effect bringing in a decent bag of 60 in 3 hours although a few ferrals were in the count, Had it not been for the fact that due to the strong wind and us having to be some way off where the birds really wanted to be? a bag of over a ton in those 3 hours shot would have been a doddle.
