I've just tried some of that Geco ammo which is basically Dynamit Nobel ammo (using RWS TMantel bullets). Its 105Grain so your rifle may not like it but it cloverleafed 3 rounds at 85 yards from my scout So I was made up, especially as it's only £19 a box... Happy days.

One thing of note though is you havent mentioned what you use the .243 for? I reckon this ammo will be great for fox and good for deer but it has been suggested that one should expect 'good passthoughs' on animals from Munty to Fallow so consider this before you buy it as an all rounder - I'll let you know when I do on that one.

IMHO - Well worth giving it a go and seeing if your rifle likes it before they realise its good and hike the price.

sorry guys the rifles is used on all deer and foxes the thing i have noticed is that with federal the points on a lot are deformed some quite bad this is the main thing that is putting me off sticking with them

I have noticed the tips on 100gn as well :hmm: but it does not seem to affect them too much when spinning out the barrel :hmm: For foxes the 55gn ballistic tips are devastating :hmm:

Does it shoot straight, is it consistant, does it have the right terminal effect, are you confident with it...... if you answered yes all round, then stick with it.

If you are not happy with any part above then try something else!?

:hmm:

The Geco 105 grain seems to work well out of my Sako, as does the Federal 100. I thought the Geco might be poor, what with the weight seeming high for the twist, but it shoots straight and the price is fair. I only used it on paper though, not yet tried in the field.

You have to try some Privi Partisan. Even if its only one box. Two people I know now won't buy anything else for their .243s. Around £10 a box and very accurate, its too good to be missed.

Like much in ammo it's down to the barrel etc, I use the PRVI .243 90gSP almost exclusively in mine and I'm perfectly satisfied with the results, some of the guys at my Rifle Club use it as well and are very happy. Does seem to perform well above its price generally! ???

Must stop shouting about this, it's getting popular, which has bought supply issues and will probably lead to more price hikes as well! ???

Slight deformation of soft tips makes little odds to the average deer shot. I have used the Fedral 100 powershock factory to shoot a fair few deer in the past, on bigger fallow the bullet tended to break up entirely at shorter ranges say up to 70-80yds on the far side of the deer leading to much loss of venison. On fox most 100 grain soft points are too tough to adequatly expand inside the ribcage of a fox and poor kills can result. Best bullet for both is the 95 grn b/tip Nosler strangley little meat damage on deer and kill foxes in the heart lung area very well in my handloads anyway. for larger deer and Scotland 100 grain Seirra Pro-hunter, not sure if you can get either of these heads in factory as haven't shot factory for years Gameking 100 grain is same bullet as pro-hunter with a boat tail by the way
